Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being a sharpener in Ruurlo is like riding a rollercoaster blindfolded. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. First stop, I’m rollin’ down the Kerkstraat, and I see this old dude, Jan, struggling with his bike. I mean, c’mon, it’s a bike, not a rocket ship! I help him out, and he’s all like, “Dank je wel, jongen!” I’m thinkin’, “No prob, man. Just try not to fall over again.” Then, I hit up the market at the Markt. It’s packed! I’m dodging people like I’m in some weird game of Frogger. I see this lady selling fresh stroopwafels. I can’t resist. I grab one, and it’s like heaven in my mouth. But then, I spill coffee all over my shirt. Great. Just great. Now I look like a walking disaster. After that, I head to my shop on de Laan. It’s a cozy little place, you know? I got my tools all lined up, ready to sharpen anything that comes my way. But then, this kid walks in with a dull pencil. A PENCIL! I’m like, “Dude, I sharpen knives, not crayons!” But whatever, I sharpen it anyway. Kid’s happy, I’m rollin’ my eyes. Then, outta nowhere, my buddy Koen shows up. He’s got this wild idea to go to the Ruurlo Castle. I’m like, “Dude, I gotta work!” But he’s persistent. So, we ditch the shop for a bit. The castle’s cool, but it’s also kinda creepy. I swear I saw a ghost. Or maybe it was just my imagination. Who knows? We’re walking around, and I’m just taking it all in. The trees, the old buildings, the vibe. Ruurlo’s got this charm, ya know? But then, I get a call. It’s a customer. They need a knife sharpened ASAP. I’m like, “Seriously? Can’t a guy enjoy a castle without work?” But duty calls, so we head back. Back at the shop, it’s chaos. People are lined up, and I’m like a one-man band trying to juggle everything. I’m sharpening knives, scissors, you name it. I’m sweating bullets. And then, this lady comes in, all frantic. “My husband’s knife is dull! He can’t cook!” I’m like, “Lady, I’m not a miracle worker!” But I sharpen it, and she’s all smiles. Finally, the day winds down. I’m exhausted, but there’s this satisfaction in a job well done. I step outside, and the sun’s setting over Ruurlo. The sky’s all orange and pink, and I’m just standing there, soaking it all in. Then, I think about tomorrow. More sharpening, more chaos. But hey, that’s life in Ruurlo, right? Full of surprises, a bit of madness, and a whole lotta heart. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
