Man, what a day! I swear, Scharn is a wild place. I woke up early, like, way too early. The sun was barely up, and I was already dreaming of fish. You know how it is. Grabbed my gear, hopped on my bike, and zoomed down the Hoofdstraat. That street is always buzzing, but this morning? Dead quiet. Kinda eerie, ya know? So, I get to the water, right? The Maas is glistening, and I’m thinkin’, “Today’s the day!” I cast my line, and boom! First catch of the day. A nice little perch. I’m feelin’ like a champ. But then, outta nowhere, this dude on a boat zooms by. Like, seriously? Can’t a fisherman catch a break? He splashes water all over me. I’m soaked! I yell, “Hey, watch it, man!” But he just laughs and keeps going. Rude, right? After that, I’m tryin’ to shake it off. I mean, it’s just water, right? But then I see this old lady on the bank. She’s feeding the ducks, and I’m like, “Aww, that’s sweet.” But then she starts yelling at the ducks! “Get away from my bread!” I’m cracking up. Like, lady, they’re ducks! They don’t care about your bread! Anyway, I decide to move spots. Head over to the Kloosterstraat. It’s a bit quieter there. I’m casting again, and I swear, I feel a tug. I’m reeling it in, and it’s a big one! I’m pumped! But then, my line snaps. Just like that. I’m standing there, mouth agape, like, “No way!” I’m cursing under my breath. “Stupid line!” So, I pack up and head to the local fish market. Gotta get some bait, right? The market’s on the Markt, and it’s always a scene. Fish everywhere! I’m talkin’ fresh herring, smoked eel, you name it. I grab some worms, and this guy next to me starts chatting. He’s all like, “You fishin’ today?” I’m like, “Nah, just here for the worms.” He laughs, and I’m thinkin’, “Dude, you’re not funny.” After that, I’m feeling kinda hungry. I swing by this little café on the corner of the Kerkstraat. They’ve got the best broodje haring. I order one, and while I’m waiting, I see this kid trying to catch a fish with a net. He’s all serious about it, but he’s just splashing around. I can’t help but chuckle. “Kid, you gotta be patient!” Finally, I get my broodje, and it’s glorious. I take a big bite, and it’s like heaven. But then, I see that same boat guy from earlier. He’s strutting around like he owns the place. I’m like, “Dude, you splashed me!” But he just winks and walks away. Ugh, some people! As the day winds down, I head back to the water. The sun’s setting, and it’s beautiful. I’m casting my line one last time. I’m tired, but it feels good. I think about how Scharn’s got its quirks. The people, the streets, the fish. It’s all part of the charm. I pack up my gear, and as I’m biking home, I can’t help but smile. Sure, it was a rollercoaster of a day, but that’s what makes it fun, right? Scharn, you crazy little town, you never fail to surprise me. Can’t wait for tomorrow!
