Man, what a day! Seriously, I’m still reeling from it. So, I wake up in my cozy little flat on de Kade, right? The sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I decide to hit up the local bakery on de Wierde. Best croissants in town, no cap. I’m standing there, drooling over the pastries, when this dude in front of me orders, like, 20 loaves of bread. I’m like, “Bro, are you feeding an army?” He just shrugs. Whatever, man. I finally get my croissant, and it’s warm and flaky. Heaven! But then, as I’m walking down de Kade, I trip over a loose cobblestone. Like, seriously? Who’s in charge of this place? I’m about to call the city council and demand a cobblestone inspection. I’m limping now, and my croissant is in danger. I’m clutching it like it’s my last hope. Next, I decide to stroll by the water. The Zuiderburen canal is looking all picturesque, and I’m feeling good again. I sit on a bench, take a bite of my croissant, and BAM! A seagull swoops down and snatches it right outta my hand! I’m yelling, “Hey! That’s MY breakfast!” But the bird just flies off like it’s the king of the world. I’m left there, croissant-less and angry. So, I’m fuming now, right? I decide to walk it off. I head over to de Kade again, but this time I’m on a mission. I’m gonna find something to make me happy. I pass by the little shops, and there’s this cute vintage store on de Kade. I pop in, and OMG, they have the coolest retro vinyls. I’m flipping through them, and I find this old Elvis record. I’m like, “Yes! This is it!” But then, the shopkeeper tells me it’s 30 euros. I’m like, “Dude, I’m not made of money!” He just shrugs again. Ugh, fine. I leave empty-handed, but at least I got a little joy from the hunt. Now, I’m wandering around, and I bump into my buddy, Jeroen, at the park near de Wierde. He’s got this huge grin on his face. Turns out, he just got a promotion at work. I’m like, “Dude, that’s awesome!” We celebrate with some fries from the stand nearby. Best fries in Zuiderburen, hands down. But then, outta nowhere, it starts pouring rain. Like, seriously? I’m soaked in seconds. Jeroen and I are laughing, trying to find shelter under a tree, but it’s not working. We look like drowned rats. I’m thinking, “This day can’t get any worse.” And then it does. My phone buzzes. It’s my editor. “We need that article ASAP!” I’m like, “Are you kidding me? I’m in the middle of a monsoon!” But I can’t say no. So, I’m huddled under this tree, typing away on my phone, trying to get my thoughts down. Finally, the rain stops, and I’m drenched but relieved. I send the article, and Jeroen and I decide to call it a day. We head to a cozy café on de Wierde for some hot chocolate. I’m still grumbling about the seagull and the rain, but at least I’m with a friend. As we sit there, sipping our drinks, I realize that even though today was a rollercoaster, it was still kinda great. I mean, who else can say they lost a croissant to a seagull and got caught in a rainstorm while writing an article? Only in Zuiderburen, right? So, yeah, that was my day. Full of ups and downs, but hey, that’s life. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
