Yo, lemme tell ya about my wild day in Hastings, NZ. Man, it was a rollercoaster, for real. I woke up, sun shining, birds chirping, and I thought, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I hit up Heretaunga St. for brekkie. Grabbed a mean flat white at this cute café called “The Coffee House.” Seriously, best coffee in town. I was vibin’, scrolling through my phone, when BOOM! My mate texts me. “Dude, there’s a gaming tournament at the Hastings Sports Centre!” I’m like, “What?!” I had no idea. I was supposed to just chill today, but nah, not happening. So, I chugged my coffee and dashed down to the Sports Centre. I’m sprinting down Karamu Rd, dodging pedestrians like I’m in some crazy video game. I get there, and the place is packed. Like, wall-to-wall gamers. I’m talking about the whole Hastings gaming community. It was lit! I signed up for the tournament, right? I’m feeling all pumped. But then, I find out I’m up against this dude named “The Beast.” No joke, he looked like he could bench press a car. I’m sweating bullets. My heart’s racing. I’m like, “Why did I even come here?” The match starts, and I’m doing okay. I mean, I’m not terrible, but The Beast is crushing it. I’m getting wrecked. I’m talking about total annihilation. I’m getting so mad, I could throw my controller. But then, I remember my mantra: “Stay calm, stay cool.” So, I take a deep breath, and somehow, I pull off this epic comeback. I win! I’m screaming, “YEAH!” People are looking at me like I’m a lunatic. But I don’t care. I’m on cloud nine. After that, I’m riding high. I stroll down to the Hastings Farmers’ Market on the corner of Eastbourne St. and I’m just soaking it all in. Fresh produce, local crafts, and the smell of baked goods everywhere. I grab a pie from this stall. Best pie ever. I mean, it’s like a party in my mouth. I’m munching away, feeling like a king. But then, outta nowhere, it starts pouring. Like, torrential downpour. I’m soaked in seconds. I’m laughing, though. Like, “Of course this would happen.” I duck into a nearby shop on Heretaunga St. to wait it out. It’s a little gaming store, and I’m browsing around. I find this rare game I’ve been hunting for ages. I’m like, “YES!” But then I check the price. My wallet’s crying. I can’t drop that much cash. Ugh, life is cruel. Finally, the rain stops, and I head back outside. I’m walking down to the beach, just to chill. I hit up the Marine Parade, and it’s beautiful. The ocean’s glistening, and I’m feeling grateful. But then, I see this seagull swoop down and steal someone’s chips. I’m cracking up. Like, that bird’s got some serious skills. As I’m walking, I bump into some old mates from high school. We start reminiscing about the good ol’ days. You know, the usual stuff—cringe-worthy moments, epic fails, and all that jazz. It’s a blast. We decide to hit up a local pub, The Crown Hotel, for a few drinks. I’m feeling all nostalgic, and we’re laughing so hard, I almost spill my drink. But then, the night takes a turn. I get a call from my sister. She’s in a bit of a jam. Her car broke down on the way to Hastings. I’m like, “Seriously?!” So, I gotta bail on my mates and go rescue her. I’m driving down the back roads, and I’m fuming. Like, why can’t anything go smoothly today? I finally find her on the side of the road, looking all stressed. I help her out, and we manage to get the car towed. It’s late now, and I’m exhausted. But as we’re driving back, we start cracking jokes about the day. I realize, despite all the chaos, it was a pretty epic day. So, yeah, Hastings, you’ve got my heart. From gaming tournaments to farmers’ markets, and even a seagull heist. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Just another day in the life, right?
