Man, what a day! Seriously, I’m still buzzing from it. So, I wake up in Hawera, right? This little gem in Taranaki, NZ. I mean, it’s not exactly the big city, but it’s got its charm. The sun was shining, and I thought, “Today’s gonna be epic.” Spoiler alert: it was, but not in the way I expected. First off, I hit up the local café on High St. You know, the one with the best flat whites? Yeah, that one. I’m all set to sip my coffee and strum my guitar a bit. But then, bam! My guitar string snaps. Like, seriously? Right before I’m about to play? I’m standing there, all dramatic, like, “Why, universe, why?” So, I’m fuming, right? I rush over to the music shop on Victoria St. It’s a small place, but the dude there knows his stuff. I’m like, “Yo, I need strings, like, yesterday!” He’s chill, but he starts talking about some fancy new strings. I’m like, “Dude, I just need the basics!” But I get sucked into his pitch. I end up buying these super expensive strings. Ugh, my wallet is crying. After that, I’m feeling a bit better. I head over to the Hawera Water Tower. It’s this iconic spot, and I thought, “Why not get some inspiration?” I plop down on the grass, guitar in hand, and start playing. The view is killer. You can see the whole town, and even Mount Taranaki in the distance. I’m jamming away, feeling like a rockstar. Then, outta nowhere, this kid runs up to me. He’s like, “Can you play ‘Wonderwall’?” I’m like, “Bro, I’m a guitar master, not a juke box!” But I can’t resist. I play it, and suddenly, there’s a small crowd. People are vibing, and I’m feeling like a million bucks. But then, this old lady walks by. She’s got this scowl on her face, and she yells, “Turn that racket down!” I’m like, “Racket? Lady, this is art!” But she just keeps walking, shaking her head. I mean, come on! After my mini concert, I decide to grab some lunch. I hit up this burger joint on Princes St. Best burgers in town, no joke. I order the “Hawera Special.” It’s massive! I’m talking two patties, bacon, cheese, the works. I take a bite, and it’s like a flavor explosion. I’m in heaven. But then, I spill ketchup all over my shirt. Great. Just great. I’m sitting there, looking like a total mess. I laugh it off, though. It’s just a shirt, right? Later, I stroll down to the local park. It’s a nice spot, with trees and a playground. I see some kids playing, and it hits me—this is what life’s about. Simple moments, ya know? I start playing again, just me and my guitar. As the sun sets, I’m feeling all kinds of emotions. Happy, frustrated, surprised. It’s been a rollercoaster. I pack up my stuff and head home, thinking about how Hawera is this little slice of paradise. So, yeah, that was my day. Full of ups and downs, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Hawera, you’ve got my heart. Even if you do have some cranky old ladies!
