Man, what a day! Seriously, Hillcrest, NZ, you’ve got me all kinds of twisted. I woke up thinking it’d be just another boring Tuesday. Spoiler alert: it was anything but. First off, I hit up the local café on Wairere Ave. You know, the one with the best flat whites? Yeah, that one. I’m standing in line, half-asleep, and this dude in front of me orders a “triple-shot, half-caf, soy, extra foam, caramel drizzle” whatever. Like, bro, it’s coffee, not a science experiment! I’m just trying to get my caffeine fix, not decipher a menu from outer space. So, I finally get my coffee, and I’m feeling all good, right? I stroll down to the park on Hillcrest Rd. It’s a nice spot, trees everywhere, kids playing, dogs chasing their tails. I sit down, take a sip, and BAM! A frisbee nearly takes my head off. I look up, and it’s a bunch of teenagers laughing their heads off. I mean, come on! I’m just trying to enjoy my drink, not become a target practice for the local youth. After that near-death experience, I decide to walk it off. I head down to the Hillcrest Shopping Centre. You know, the one with the dodgy food court? I’m starving, so I grab some sushi. I swear, it was the worst sushi I’ve ever had. Like, how do you mess up sushi? It’s rice and fish! But whatever, I’m not here to critique food, right? Oh wait, that’s literally my job. Then, I bump into an old mate from high school. We start chatting, and he’s telling me about his new job at the local council. Apparently, they’re planning to build a new park on Kaimai Rd. I’m like, “Dude, that’s awesome!” But then he drops the bomb: they’re cutting down some trees for it. I’m fuming! Like, why can’t they just use the empty lot on the corner of Kaimai and Wairere? It’s just sitting there, doing nothing! Anyway, I’m all riled up now, so I decide to take a stroll down to the Hillcrest Library. I love that place. It’s got this cozy vibe, and the smell of old books is just... mmm. But guess what? It’s closed for renovations! Ugh! I can’t catch a break today. I just wanted to lose myself in a good book, but nope, not happening. So, I’m walking back, and I pass by the Hillcrest Primary School. Kids are out for lunch, and they’re all running around, screaming. It’s chaos, but it’s kinda cute. I see this little girl drop her sandwich, and I’m like, “Aww, poor kid.” But then she just picks it up and eats it anyway! I’m cracking up. Kids are wild, man. Finally, I make my way back home, and I’m exhausted. I plop down on my couch, and I’m like, “What a day!” I can’t believe all the stuff that went down. Hillcrest, you’ve got your quirks, but I wouldn’t trade you for anything. You keep me on my toes, that’s for sure. So, here I am, just another day in Hillcrest. Full of surprises, laughter, and a bit of chaos. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
