Man, what a day! Seriously, I can’t even. So, I wake up in Kaiti, right? Sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I’m a Russian Sign Language translator, which is kinda niche, ya know? But I love it. Anyway, I’m heading down to the beach on Kaiti Beach Road. The view? Stunning! But then I trip over my own feet. Classic me. I’m like, “Great start, genius.” So, I get to this community center on Kaiti Road. There’s a workshop for deaf kids. Super cool, right? But then, I find out the main translator bailed. Ugh! I’m like, “Seriously? Who does that?” So, I step in. No pressure, right? Kids are wild! They’re running around, laughing, and I’m trying to keep up. One kid, little dude named Max, he’s got this crazy energy. He’s signing like a pro, and I’m just trying to not mess up. I mean, I love these kids, but they can be a handful! Then, outta nowhere, this storm rolls in. Like, one minute it’s sunny, the next it’s pouring. I’m soaked! I’m standing there, drenched, and the kids are laughing. I’m like, “You think this is funny?” But honestly, it kinda was. After the workshop, I’m walking down Kaiti Beach Road again, trying to dry off. I stop at this little café on the corner of Kaiti Road and Wainui Road. Best coffee ever! I order a flat white, and the barista, this chill dude, tells me about the local surf spots. I’m like, “Dude, I can’t surf to save my life!” But he’s all about that surf life. Then, I get a call. It’s my buddy, Alex. He’s like, “Hey, wanna hit up the Kaiti Market?” I’m like, “Sure, why not?” So, I head over. The market’s buzzing! Fresh produce, crafts, and all that good stuff. I grab some kumara fries. OMG, they’re amazing! But then, I see this guy trying to sell these weird-looking fish. I’m like, “What even is that?” He’s all, “It’s a delicacy!” I’m like, “Yeah, no thanks.” I’m not about to try some fish that looks like it swam outta a horror movie. As I’m leaving the market, I bump into an old friend. We start chatting, and I’m feeling all nostalgic. Kaiti’s got this vibe, ya know? It’s small, but it’s home. We reminisce about the good ol’ days, and I’m just smiling. But then, I get a text. It’s from the community center. They need me for another workshop tomorrow. I’m like, “Seriously? I just survived today!” But I can’t say no. These kids need me. So, I head home, exhausted but happy. Kaiti’s wild, unpredictable, and full of surprises. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Even if I trip over my own feet. Again.
