Man, what a day! Seriously, Parklands is wild. I woke up thinking it’d be chill, just another day in the hood. But nah, the universe had other plans. So, I hit the streets around 9 am. First stop? The local café on Queenspark Drive. Best flat whites in town, no cap. I’m sippin’ my coffee, feeling all fancy, when I see this dude trip over his own shoelaces. Like, c’mon bro, tie your shoes! Everyone’s laughing, and I’m just there, trying not to spill my drink. Classic Parklands moment, right? After that, I decided to stroll down to the Parklands Shopping Centre. I needed some snacks, ya know? As I’m walking down Waimairi Road, I spot this cute dog. I mean, it was adorable! A little golden retriever, just chillin’. I’m like, “Aww, can I pet him?” The owner’s all like, “Sure, but he bites.” I’m like, “What?!” I just wanted a cuddle, not a trip to the ER! Anyway, I finally make it to the shops. I grab some chips and a fizzy drink. I’m in line, and this lady in front of me is taking FOREVER. Like, lady, it’s just a pack of gum! I’m losing my patience, thinking about how I could’ve been outside enjoying the sun instead of waiting for her to decide between mint or bubblegum. Then, boom! The power goes out. Just like that. The whole place goes dark. People are freaking out, and I’m just standing there, thinking, “Great, now I’m stuck in a dark shop with a gum lady.” But then, the lights flicker back on, and everyone cheers! It’s like we just survived a zombie apocalypse or something. After that chaos, I needed some fresh air. I headed to the Parklands Reserve. It’s this beautiful spot with trees and a playground. I plopped down on a bench, just soaking it all in. Kids were running around, laughing, and I’m like, “Man, I miss being a kid.” Then, outta nowhere, this kid runs up to me and says, “You look like a superhero!” I’m like, “What? Me? Nah, I’m just a Saver.” But it made my day, ya know? Then, I see this group of teens playing footy. They’re all hyped, yelling and stuff. I’m thinking, “I could totally join in.” But then I remember my last attempt at footy. Let’s just say, I ended up on the ground more than the ball did. So, I just cheered them on instead. “Go team!” I’m basically their biggest fan now. But then, the mood shifted. I overheard some folks arguing nearby. Apparently, someone’s dog pooped on the grass, and the owner didn’t clean it up. Like, come on, people! It’s not that hard! I was getting all riled up, thinking about how I’d handle it if I were the dog owner. “Pick it up, or I’ll unleash my inner Saver on you!” As the sun started to set, I decided to head back home. I took a different route, down through the back streets. Parklands is full of surprises, man. I stumbled upon this little art installation on the corner of Lyttelton Ave. It was a giant sculpture of a kiwi bird. I’m standing there, just laughing at how random it is. Only in Parklands, right? Finally, I made it home, exhausted but happy. I plopped down on my couch, thinking about the day. It was a rollercoaster, for sure. From tripping dudes to cute dogs, and even a power outage. Parklands, you never fail to keep it interesting. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. So, yeah, that was my day. Just another wild ride in Parklands, NZ. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
