Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being a tractor driver in Waikowhai is never a dull moment. So, I roll outta bed, right? Sun’s barely up, but I’m already feelin’ the grind. Grabbed my coffee, spilled half of it on my boots. Classic me. First stop, I’m cruisin’ down Waikowhai Rd. The morning fog is thick, like pea soup. Can’t see a thing! I’m thinkin’, “Great, just what I need.” But then, boom! I spot a bunch of kids at the park, all hyped up, playin’ footy. Made me smile, ya know? Kids just livin’ their best life. Then, I hit the main drag, and oh boy, the traffic! It’s like a snail race. I’m sittin’ there, engine rumblin’, and I’m like, “C’mon, people! Let’s move it!” I swear, I could’ve gotten out and walked faster. Finally, I get to the roundabout at the end of Wattle St. You know the one? It’s like a mini version of the Tour de France, with cars goin’ round and round. So, I’m finally makin’ my way to the job site. I’m thinkin’ it’s gonna be a chill day. But nah, life had other plans. I pull up to this construction site on the corner of Halsey St. and I see a bunch of blokes lookin’ all stressed. Turns out, they’re short on hands. “Hey mate, can ya help us out?” they ask. I’m like, “Sure, why not?” Next thing I know, I’m in this massive tractor, tryin’ to maneuver it like I’m in a video game. I’m sweatin’ bullets, but I’m lovin’ it. The thrill! But then, I hit a bump, and the whole thing shakes. I’m thinkin’, “Oh no, please don’t flip!” But I manage to keep it steady. Phew! After a few hours, I’m covered in dirt, and my back’s killin’ me. But then, I see this old lady walkin’ her dog down by the beach. She waves at me, and I wave back. It’s those little moments, ya know? Makes the hard work worth it. But then, just when I thought it couldn’t get crazier, I hear this loud crash. I whip my head around, and some dude just backed his car into a fence! I’m like, “Seriously, bro?!” The guy jumps out, lookin’ all panicked. I can’t help but laugh. I mean, c’mon! Finally, the day winds down. I’m headin’ back home, and I take a detour through the park. The sun’s settin’, and it’s beautiful. I see the kids again, still playin’ footy. I stop and watch for a bit. They’re havin’ a blast, and I’m thinkin’, “Man, I wish I could be that carefree.” So, I get home, totally knackered but happy. I plop down on the couch, and I’m like, “What a day!” Waikowhai, you crazy place. Full of surprises, laughter, and a bit of chaos. Can’t wait to do it all again tomorrow!
