Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being a glazier in Waiuku is like riding a rollercoaster blindfolded. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m thinkin’, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Ha! Spoiler alert: it was anything but. First stop, Queen St. I’m cruisin’ down, jamming to some tunes, when BAM! I hit a pothole. Seriously, Waiuku, fix your roads! My coffee nearly flew outta my hand. I’m cursing like a sailor. “Great start, mate!” I mutter to myself. Get to the job site, and it’s a house on Victoria Ave. Nice place, but the owner? Total piece of work. She’s all like, “Make sure it’s perfect!” Lady, I’m a glazier, not a magician! I mean, I can make glass look good, but I can’t make your attitude sparkle. So, I’m measuring, cutting, and sweating like a pig. It’s hot, and I’m thinking about that cold beer waiting for me later. But then, outta nowhere, the neighbor’s dog starts barking like it’s auditioning for a horror movie. I’m like, “Shut up, dude!” But no, he’s relentless. I swear, I almost lost it. Finally, I get the glass in. It’s lookin’ sweet! I’m feeling proud, ya know? But then, the wind picks up. And guess what? A freakin’ gust blows the glass right outta my hands! It shatters everywhere. I’m standing there, mouth agape, like I just saw a UFO. “No way!” I yell. Now I’m angry. I mean, come on! I just cleaned that mess up! So, I grab my tools and head to the next job on George St. This one’s a commercial place. I’m thinkin’, “This’ll be easy.” But nope! The client’s a total diva. “I need it done by noon!” It’s 11:30! I’m like, “Lady, I’m not a speed demon!” I rush through it, and guess what? I finish at 12:05. She’s fuming. I’m just standing there, trying to explain that glass doesn’t grow on trees. But she’s not having it. I’m ready to throw in the towel. But then, something amazing happens. I step outside, and there’s this little kid on the street, riding his bike. He’s got this huge grin, and he shouts, “You’re the glass guy! You’re awesome!” I can’t help but smile. Kids have a way of making everything better, right? So, I take a breather, grab some fish and chips from the local shop on King St. Best in town, no joke! I sit by the river, watching the sunset. Waiuku’s got this vibe, ya know? The water’s calm, and the sky’s painted in pinks and oranges. I’m feeling grateful. But then, my phone buzzes. It’s my mate, asking if I wanna hit the pub later. I’m like, “Heck yeah!” I need a drink after today. So, I finish up, and as I’m packing my stuff, I trip over my own feet. Classic me! I laugh it off. Finally, I’m at the pub, and it’s packed. I grab a cold one and join my mates. We’re laughing, sharing stories, and I’m thinking, “Today was a mess, but it was my mess.” Waiuku, you crazy little town, you’ve got my heart. Even on the wildest days, there’s always a silver lining. Cheers to that!
