Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being a radio operator in Sztum is like riding a rollercoaster blindfolded. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m thinkin’, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I grab my coffee from that little spot on ul. Główna. You know the one? The barista there, she’s got a smile that could light up the whole Sztum. But today, she’s outta my fave brew. Ugh! I settle for some weak stuff. Not a great start, but whatever. I head to the radio station, which is on ul. Sienkiewicza. I’m jamming to some tunes, feeling good. Then, boom! My radio crackles to life. “We got a situation!” says my buddy, Marek. I’m like, “What now?” Turns out, there’s a cat stuck on a roof on ul. Kościuszki. Seriously? A cat? I mean, I love cats, but c’mon! So, I’m on the mic, trying to coordinate the rescue. “Yo, firefighters, get your butts over to Kościuszki!” I’m practically yelling. Meanwhile, I’m picturing this fluffy little dude just chillin’ up there, like he owns the place. Then, outta nowhere, I hear sirens. Not just any sirens, but the loudest, most obnoxious ones. It’s the fire truck, and they’re zooming past my window. I’m like, “Dude, you missed the turn!” I can’t help but laugh. Classic Sztum moment, right? Finally, they get there, and I’m glued to the radio. “We’re on the scene!” Marek says. I’m thinking, “Great, let’s save this cat!” But then, I hear a commotion. Turns out, the cat’s not just stuck; it’s a full-on diva. It’s hissing and scratching at the firefighters. I’m dying over here. “This cat’s got more attitude than half the people in Sztum!” I shout into the mic. After what feels like an eternity, they finally get the cat down. It’s all dramatic, like a scene from a movie. The crowd’s cheering, and I’m just sitting there, shaking my head. “Only in Sztum,” I mutter. But wait, the day’s not over! I get a call about a parade happening on ul. 1 Maja. A parade? In the middle of the week? I’m intrigued. So, I hop on my bike and pedal over. The streets are packed, and there’s music blasting. I’m thinking, “This is more like it!” I see my buddy, Jacek, dressed as a giant sausage. No joke. He’s waving at everyone, and I can’t stop laughing. “Dude, you look ridiculous!” I shout. He just grins, “Better than being a cat, right?” Touché, my friend. As the parade rolls on, I’m feeling all the vibes. People are dancing, kids are laughing, and I’m just soaking it all in. Sztum’s got this energy that’s contagious. I even join in for a bit, doing my best (terrible) dance moves. But then, outta nowhere, it starts pouring. Like, monsoon-level rain. Everyone’s scrambling for cover, and I’m just standing there, soaked to the bone, laughing my head off. “This is Sztum, baby!” I yell. By the time I get back to the station, I’m exhausted but happy. I sit down, and it hits me. This city, with its quirky streets and wild moments, it’s home. Sure, it’s chaotic, but that’s what makes it special. So, yeah, today was a whirlwind. From a diva cat to a sausage parade, Sztum never fails to surprise me. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
