Man, what a day! I swear, Guayama really knows how to throw a curveball. Woke up this mornin’ thinkin’ it’d be just another chill day at the track. But nah, life had other plans. First off, I’m cruisin’ down Calle José de Diego, right? The sun’s blazin’, and I’m feelin’ good. Got my lucky cap on, the one with the frayed edges. You know, the one I’ve had since forever. I pull up to the hipodromo, and it’s packed. Like, more people than I’ve seen since the last fiesta. I’m thinkin’, “Sweet, today’s my day!” But then, bam! My horse, Chiquitita, decides she’s not feelin’ it. She’s givin’ me the side-eye like, “Nah, bro, not today.” I’m like, “C’mon, girl! We got this!” But she’s just munchin’ on hay, totally unfazed. Then, outta nowhere, I hear this commotion. Turns out, some dude on Calle San Antonio is tryin’ to sell churros while jugglin’ them. Like, who does that? I’m laughin’ so hard, I almost forget about Chiquitita. But then, I see her startin’ to trot. I’m like, “YES! Finally!” Race time rolls around. I’m pumped, heart racin’. But then, the starter gun goes off, and Chiquitita just stands there. I’m yellin’, “MOVE, GIRL!” But she’s just chillin’. I’m about to lose it. I mean, c’mon! We’re in Guayama, not a beach day! Finally, she gets it together. We’re off! I’m feelin’ like a rockstar, wind in my hair, the crowd goin’ wild. I can see the stands on Calle de la Cruz, people shoutin’ my name. It’s electric! But then, I see this guy in the front row spill his drink. Like, dude, really? Priorities, man! We’re neck and neck with this other horse. I’m thinkin’, “This is it! We’re gonna win!” But then, Chiquitita starts slowin’ down again. I’m like, “No, no, no! Not now!” I’m practically beggin’ her. And then, outta nowhere, I hear this loud bang. Fireworks? Nope, just some kid’s balloon poppin’. But it freaks Chiquitita out, and she bolts! I’m hangin’ on for dear life, thinkin’, “This is how I die!” We’re flyin’ past Calle de la Playa, and I’m just tryin’ to keep my cool. I’m shoutin’, “You got this, girl!” But she’s off in her own world. I swear, I saw a dog on the side of the road, and she almost tried to race it. Like, c’mon! Finally, we hit the last stretch. I’m yellin’ like a madman. The crowd’s goin’ wild. I can see the finish line, and I’m thinkin’, “We can do this!” Chiquitita finds her second wind, and we’re flyin’! We cross the finish line, and I’m like, “YES!” But then, I realize we didn’t win. We came in second. I’m happy but also kinda mad. Like, c’mon, girl! You had it in you! After the race, I’m walkin’ back through Guayama, still buzzin’. I stop by this little spot on Calle de la Libertad for some lechón. Best decision ever. I’m sittin’ there, eatin’ my weight in pork, thinkin’ about how wild today was. So yeah, Guayama, you crazy! You made me laugh, you made me scream, and you made me eat way too much. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Just another day in the life of a jockey, right?
