Man, today was a wild ride in Las Marías. Like, I woke up thinking it’d be just another chill day, ya know? But nah, the universe had other plans. First off, I hit up Calle San Sebastián for some coffee. Best café in town, no cap. I’m talking about that strong stuff that hits you like a freight train. I order my usual—café con leche, extra sugar. I’m not a monster! But the barista, this dude named Carlos, spills half of it all over the counter. I’m like, “Bro, what’s good?” He just laughs it off. I mean, I get it, we all have those days, right? So, I’m walking down the street, feeling the vibe. The sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m thinking, “Today’s gonna be lit.” But then, I see this huge pothole on Calle José de Diego. Like, seriously? It’s like a mini crater! I almost twisted my ankle. I’m ready to start a petition or something. “Fix our roads, Las Marías!” Then, I bump into my buddy Miguel. He’s always got some crazy story. Turns out, he just got back from a trip to Vieques. He’s raving about the bioluminescent bay. I’m like, “Dude, you gotta take me next time!” But then he starts talking about how he got lost on the way back. Classic Miguel. After that, I head over to Plaza de Recreo. It’s packed with people. Kids are running around, old folks are playing dominoes, and there’s this guy selling piraguas. I can’t resist. I grab a cherry one, and it’s like a party in my mouth. Sweet, icy goodness. But then, I see this kid drop his. I’m like, “Noooo!” It’s like watching a slow-motion disaster. Then, outta nowhere, it starts to rain. I mean, come on! I just got my piragua! I duck into a nearby tienda. It’s cramped, but the owner, Doña Rosa, is super sweet. She offers me a pastelón. I’m like, “Yes, please!” It’s the best comfort food ever. I’m sitting there, eating, and I can’t help but think how this little town has the best food. But then, the rain stops, and I step outside. The streets are all shiny and fresh. I’m feeling good again. I decide to stroll down Calle de la Cruz. The murals there are insane! I snap a few pics for my portfolio. I’m an art director, after all. Gotta keep the gram updated, right? But then, I see this group of kids playing soccer. They’re good! Like, way better than I ever was. I start cheering them on, and they’re loving it. I’m feeling all the feels. It’s like, this is what life’s about, man. Then, I get a call from my boss. Ugh. He’s like, “We need to talk about the project.” I’m like, “Dude, I’m in the middle of a vibe!” But I can’t ignore him. So, I walk over to the park, trying to find a quiet spot. But it’s loud! Kids are screaming, music’s blasting. I’m like, “Why can’t I catch a break?” Finally, I wrap up the call. My boss is stressing me out about deadlines. I’m like, “Chill, bro. I got this.” But inside, I’m like, “What if I don’t?” As the sun starts to set, I head back home. I’m walking down Avenida Las Marías, and it hits me. This place is my heart. The chaos, the beauty, the people. It’s all a part of me. I get home, exhausted but happy. I plop down on my couch, and I’m like, “What a day!” I can’t wait to do it all over again tomorrow. Las Marías, you crazy, but I love you.
