Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, Salinas (PR) really knows how to throw a curveball. Woke up this mornin’ feelin’ like a million bucks, ready to hit the waves. But nah, life had other plans. First off, I’m cruisin’ down Calle Santa Rosa, right? The sun’s blazin’, and I’m thinkin’ about grabbin’ some breakfast at that little spot, El Pescador. You know, the one with the best mofongo? Yeah, that place. But guess what? It’s closed! Like, seriously? Who closes at 8 AM? I’m starvin’ here! So, I’m like, whatever, I’ll just hit up the bakery on Calle 65 Infantería. I get there, and it’s packed! I mean, people are lined up like it’s Black Friday or somethin’. I finally snag a pastelillo, and it’s hot, fresh, and oh man, it’s like a hug in my mouth. But then, I spill some grease on my shirt. Great. Just great. Now I look like a hot mess. After that, I decide to hit the beach. Playa Salinas is callin’ my name! I’m thinkin’ I’ll catch some rays and chill. But nah, the waves are wild today. I’m out there tryin’ to ride ‘em, and I wipe out like a total rookie. Sand everywhere, in my hair, my shorts, even my nose! I’m laughin’ at myself, but also kinda mad. Like, c’mon, I’m a sailor! I should be better than this! Then, outta nowhere, I see this dude, right? He’s tryin’ to impress some girl, and he’s all like, “Watch this!” He jumps on his board, and boom! He eats it hard. I can’t help but laugh. Karma, man. It’s real. But then, the girl just rolls her eyes and walks away. Ouch! That’s gotta hurt more than the wipeout. So, I’m sittin’ there, tryin’ to shake off the sand and thinkin’ about life. You know, the usual sailor thoughts. Like, why do I even do this? But then I see the sunset. Man, it’s beautiful. The sky’s all orange and pink, and I’m reminded why I love this place. Salinas has its charm, ya know? After the beach, I head over to the plaza. Calle José de Diego is buzzin’ with life. There’s music, people laughin’, kids runnin’ around. I grab a cold Medalla from a vendor. Best decision ever. I’m sippin’ it, and this old guy starts tellin’ me stories about the sea. He’s got that twinkle in his eye, like he’s seen it all. I’m hangin’ on every word. But then, outta nowhere, it starts rainin’. Like, torrential downpour! I’m sprintin’ for cover, laughin’ like a maniac. I duck into a little café on Calle 1 de Mayo. I’m soaked, but I don’t care. I order a café con leche, and it’s like a warm hug. While I’m waitin’, I overhear some locals talkin’ about the festival next week. They’re all hyped up about the food, the music, and the dancing. I’m thinkin’, man, I gotta be there! I can already taste the lechón and feel the rhythm of the bomba. Finally, the rain lets up, and I head back to my boat. I’m exhausted but happy. Salinas, you crazy little town, you’ve got my heart. I’m thinkin’ about all the wild stuff that happened today. The spills, the laughs, the beauty of it all. As I’m settlin’ in for the night, I can’t help but smile. Tomorrow’s another day, and who knows what it’ll bring? But for now, I’m just a sailor in Salinas, livin’ my best life.
