Man, what a day! Seriously, Carregal-do-Sal, you’ve outdone yourself. I woke up thinking it’d be just another chill day, but nah, the universe had other plans. So, I’m a firefighter, right? Yeah, the dangerous gig. I roll outta bed, grab my coffee, and head to the station on Rua da Liberdade. I’m already half-awake, and my buddy Miguel is there, cracking jokes about my bedhead. Like, dude, I’m saving lives, not winning a hair contest! First call comes in. A fire at a bakery on Rua da Praça. I’m like, “Great, I could go for some pastries.” But when we get there, it’s chaos. Smoke everywhere, people freaking out. I’m trying to keep my cool, but inside, I’m like, “What the heck?!” We rush in, and I swear, the heat hits you like a brick wall. I’m dodging flames, and all I can think is, “I hope they have those custard tarts still!” But then I see this old lady, Mrs. Silva, trapped. She’s yelling, “Help! My cat!” I’m like, “Forget the tarts, we gotta save the cat!” So, I dive in, grab the cat, and it’s hissing like a little demon. I’m wrestling with it, and finally, I get it out. Mrs. Silva is crying, and I’m like, “It’s okay, lady, your cat’s safe!” But then I realize, I’m covered in soot, and I probably smell like burnt bread. After that, we head back to the station, and I’m still buzzing from the adrenaline. But then, outta nowhere, we get another call. A car accident on Avenida da Liberdade. I’m thinking, “Can’t a guy catch a break?” We get there, and it’s a mess. Two cars, people yelling, sirens blaring. I’m trying to direct traffic, and this dude on a bike zooms past me, almost takes me out. I’m like, “Bro, chill! I’m not a target practice!” Finally, we get everyone sorted, and I’m feeling pretty good about the day. But then, I see this kid, maybe 10 years old, looking at me with wide eyes. He says, “Are you a superhero?” I’m like, “Nah, just a guy in a suit.” But inside, I’m like, “Wow, I guess I kinda am.” So, I head home, exhausted but happy. I walk down Rua do Comércio, and the sunset is gorgeous. I stop for a minute, just taking it all in. Carregal-do-Sal is beautiful, man. The river, the hills, the vibe. It’s like a postcard. But then, I get home, and my phone buzzes. It’s my mom. She’s like, “Did you save any pastries?” I’m like, “Mom, I was saving lives, not snacks!” But honestly, I’m starving. So, I order a pizza, and while I’m waiting, I think about the day. The fires, the accidents, the kid. It’s wild how one day can be so packed. I’m just a dude in a dangerous job, but days like this remind me why I do it. And yeah, Carregal-do-Sal, you’re a crazy place, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Just gotta remember to keep my head on straight and maybe, just maybe, grab a pastry next time.
