Man, what a day! Seriously, I can’t even. So, I woke up in Colares, right? Beautiful little town, but today? Ugh. First off, I’m an actuary. Yeah, I know, super exciting, right? But today, I was just trying to chill. Grabbed my coffee at Café da Praia on Rua da Praia. Best coffee ever! But guess what? They ran out of my usual croissant. Like, come on! It’s a beach town, how do you run outta croissants? So, I’m standing there, fuming. I mean, it’s not like I’m asking for a unicorn latte or something. Just a croissant! Anyway, I settled for a pastel de nata. Not the same, but hey, I’m not picky. Then, I decided to take a stroll down to the beach. The sun was shining, and the waves were crashing. I thought, “Okay, maybe today won’t be so bad.” But then, I tripped over a rock on Avenida da Liberdade. Like, who puts rocks there? I swear, I almost face-planted. After that, I needed a breather. So, I headed to the cliffs at Cabo da Roca. You know, the westernmost point of mainland Europe? It’s stunning! But the wind was wild. I felt like I was gonna get blown off the edge. I mean, I’m not ready to become a human kite, ya know? While I was there, I met this old dude. He was like, “You know, the cliffs are beautiful, but life is unpredictable.” I was like, “Dude, I’m an actuary. I know all about unpredictability.” We laughed, but honestly, I was just trying to not get blown away. Then, I got a call from work. Ugh, the worst! They needed me to run some numbers for a client. In the middle of Cabo da Roca! I’m like, “Can’t a guy enjoy some cliffs without work?” But nooo, I had to pull out my laptop. After that, I was just done. I walked back through the streets, feeling all kinds of emotions. I passed by the Mercado de Colares. The vibe was cool, but I was too stressed to enjoy it. I mean, who can enjoy fresh produce when you’re calculating risk? Finally, I hit up a local bar on Rua da Igreja. Needed a drink, ya know? I ordered a ginja. It’s this cherry liquor, and it’s amazing! I took a sip, and suddenly, the day didn’t seem so bad. I started chatting with the bartender, and he told me about the local legends. Apparently, there’s a ghost that haunts the old church. I was like, “Great, just what I need. Ghosts on top of my bad day.” But then, something clicked. I realized, life’s too short to stress over numbers. I mean, I love my job, but sometimes you gotta just live, right? So, I decided to embrace the chaos. I left the bar, feeling lighter. I walked along the beach, watching the sunset. The sky was painted in oranges and pinks. It was beautiful. I thought, “This is what it’s all about.” So yeah, Colares, you got me today. You made me mad, you made me laugh, and you reminded me to chill. I’ll take that any day.
