Man, what a day! Seriously, I’m still reeling from it. So, I wake up in Figueira-da-Foz, right? Sun’s shining, waves crashing. I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I’m a dental tech, so I’m all about those pearly whites. But today? Ugh. I get to the lab on Rua da Liberdade, and my buddy Miguel is already there, looking like he’s seen a ghost. Turns out, our main machine, the one that makes crowns, decided to throw a tantrum. Like, c’mon! It’s not a toddler! I’m trying to fix it, but it’s like wrestling a slippery fish. I’m sweating bullets, and Miguel’s just munching on a pastel de nata, totally unfazed. I’m like, “Dude, help me out here!” He just grins and says, “I’m on break.” Break? Who takes a break when the machine’s dying? Finally, I get it working, but then I spill a whole cup of coffee on the floor. Great. Just great. Now I’m slipping around like I’m in a slapstick comedy. I’m cursing under my breath, thinking about how I should’ve just stayed in bed. After that chaos, I decide to take a breather. I stroll down to the beach, you know, Praia da Claridade. The sun’s out, people are sunbathing, and I’m like, “Okay, maybe today’s not a total disaster.” I grab an ice cream from that little stand on the corner of Avenida da República. Best decision ever! But then, outta nowhere, I see this kid flying a kite. And I’m like, “Wow, that’s cool.” But then the kite gets tangled in a tree. I’m laughing, but also feeling bad for the kid. I mean, who hasn’t had a bad day, right? So, I help him out, and he’s all smiles again. Makes me feel good, ya know? Then, I head back to the lab, and guess what? The machine’s acting up again! I’m about to lose it. I’m like, “Why me?!” I swear, if I had a euro for every time that thing broke down, I’d be rich. Later, I decide to grab some dinner at a little place on Rua da Praia. The seafood there is to die for! I order the grilled sardines, and they’re just perfect. I’m sitting there, enjoying my meal, when I overhear this couple arguing. Like, full-on shouting. I’m trying not to laugh, but it’s hard. They’re going back and forth, and I’m just here, eating my sardines, thinking, “Man, love is wild.” By the time I finish, it’s dark, and I’m walking back home along the waterfront. The lights are twinkling, and the waves are crashing. I can’t help but feel grateful. Figueira-da-Foz, with all its quirks, is home. But then, I trip over a loose cobblestone. Classic! I’m laughing at myself, thinking, “What a day!” I finally get home, plop on the couch, and just breathe. So yeah, Figueira-da-Foz, you crazy city, you’ve got my heart. Even on the wildest days, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Just gotta roll with the punches, right?
