Man, what a day! Seriously, I’m still reeling from it. So, I wake up in Marinhas, right? The sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I’m a typhlopedagogue, which is a fancy way of saying I teach visually impaired kids. So, I’m all about that patience and understanding. But today? Ugh. I’m walking down Rua da Alegria, thinking about my lesson plan, when I trip over a loose cobblestone. Like, come on! Who’s in charge of this street? I’m pretty sure I just invented a new dance move. Anyway, I finally get to the school, and the kids are buzzing with energy. I love their enthusiasm, but today, it was like they had a double shot of espresso or something. We’re doing this tactile activity, and one kid, João, decides to turn it into a wrestling match. I’m like, “Dude, we’re not in the WWE!” But he’s rolling around, laughing, and I can’t help but crack a smile. Then, outta nowhere, the fire alarm goes off. I’m thinking, “Great, just what I need.” We all pile out onto Avenida da Liberdade, and it’s chaos. Kids are running, parents are freaking out, and I’m just trying to keep everyone calm. I mean, I’m not a firefighter! But hey, at least I got to see the cute barista from the café across the street. She’s got this killer smile. After the fire drill (which turned out to be a false alarm, thank goodness), we head back inside. I’m trying to regain control of the class when suddenly, the power goes out. Like, seriously? It’s like the universe is testing me. I’m standing there in the dark, and all I can think is, “This is gonna make a great story someday.” So, I pull out my phone, and we start doing shadow puppets. The kids are loving it! I’m making a dog, a cat, and then I try to do a dinosaur. It’s a total flop, but they’re cracking up. I’m like, “Okay, maybe I should stick to teaching.” Finally, the day wraps up, and I’m exhausted. I stroll down Rua da Escola, thinking about grabbing a bite. I hit up this little place called O Pescador. Best seafood ever! I order the bacalhau à brás, and it’s like a hug in a dish. I’m savoring every bite when I overhear this couple arguing. Like, come on, guys, it’s Marinhas! Chill out! But then, out of nowhere, the guy pulls out a ring. He proposes right there! I’m like, “What?!” The whole restaurant goes silent. She says yes, and everyone erupts in applause. I’m tearing up a bit. It’s like a rom-com moment. After that, I head home, and I’m just reflecting on the day. It was wild, emotional, and totally unexpected. I love Marinhas, man. It’s got this vibe, you know? The streets, the people, the little surprises. Even when it’s chaotic, it’s home. So yeah, that was my day. Full of ups and downs, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Here’s to more crazy days in Marinhas!
