Man, what a day! Seriously, I’m still reeling from it. So, I’m a clergyman, right? You’d think my life is all about peace and quiet. Nope! Not today in Santa-Comba-Dão. I woke up, sun shining through my window on Rua da Liberdade. Thought, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Ha! Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. First off, I spilled coffee all over my favorite robe. Like, come on! It’s a sign, right? I rushed out, late as usual. The streets were buzzing. I mean, Santa-Comba-Dão is small, but it’s got this vibe. People everywhere, chatting, laughing. I love it! But I was in a hurry. I had a meeting at the Igreja Matriz. You know, the big church? It’s beautiful, but I was too frazzled to appreciate it. So, I’m sprinting down Avenida da Liberdade, dodging old ladies and kids on bikes. I swear, one kid almost took me out! I was like, “Whoa, buddy! Slow down!” But he just laughed. Kids, man. They don’t care. Finally, I get to the church, and guess what? The meeting’s canceled! I could’ve just stayed in bed! I was fuming. I mean, I could’ve used that time to prep my sermon or, I dunno, enjoy a nice pastry from the bakery on Rua da Escola. Those pastéis de nata are heavenly! Anyway, I’m standing there, all grumpy, when this old guy, Senhor Oliveira, comes up to me. He’s a character, always cracking jokes. He says, “Father, you look like you need a hug!” I couldn’t help but laugh. He’s right! I did need a hug. So, we chat for a bit. He tells me about his garden, how he’s growing tomatoes. I’m like, “Dude, that’s awesome!” But then he goes on about how the neighborhood cats keep stealing his veggies. I’m cracking up. Cats, man. They’re sneaky little thieves! After that, I decide to take a stroll. I head down Rua da Paz, just soaking in the sights. The trees are blooming, and the air smells like spring. It’s nice, ya know? But then, outta nowhere, I hear this loud crash. I turn around, and it’s a delivery truck that just backed into a lamppost! I’m like, “What the heck?!” The driver hops out, looking all flustered. I can’t help but chuckle. “Welcome to Santa-Comba-Dão, buddy!” I shout. He gives me this look like I’m crazy. Maybe I am. Then, I decide to pop into the café on Praça da República. I need a pick-me-up. I order a bica, and the barista, Maria, gives me this huge smile. She’s the best! We chat about the local football team, and I’m all hyped up. “We’re gonna win the next match!” I say. She rolls her eyes, but I can tell she’s a fan too. After my caffeine fix, I head back to the church. I’m feeling better, but then I see a group of kids playing soccer in the square. They’re having a blast, but they’re also kicking the ball around like it’s the World Cup. One kid kicks it too hard, and it flies right at me! I duck just in time. “Hey! Watch it!” I yell, but I’m laughing. Finally, I get back to my office, and I’m exhausted. I sit down, and I think about the day. It was wild, emotional, and full of surprises. Santa-Comba-Dão, you never cease to amaze me! I might’ve started the day grumpy, but I ended it with a smile. Life’s funny like that. You just gotta roll with the punches, or in my case, the flying soccer balls!
