Man, what a day! I woke up in Soure, and let me tell ya, it was a rollercoaster. First off, I’m an ichthyologist, right? So, fish are my jam. But today? Today was all about the unexpected. I hit the streets of Soure, feeling pumped. The sun was shining, and I was ready to explore. I strolled down Rua da Liberdade, thinking about all the fish I’d seen in the lagoons. You know, the ones that shimmer like diamonds? Yeah, those. But then, bam! I tripped over a cobblestone. Classic me. Almost face-planted. So, I’m walking, and I see this little café on Rua 1º de Maio. Smelled like heaven. I thought, “Why not grab a coffee?” I ordered a bica, and the barista was super chill. We started chatting about the local fish species. He was like, “You know about the lampreys, right?” I was like, “Dude, of course!” But inside, I was thinking, “Who doesn’t love a good lamprey story?” Then, outta nowhere, this kid runs in, yelling about a fish market down by the river. I’m like, “What?!” My heart raced. I love fish markets! So, I chugged my coffee and dashed out. I sprinted down Avenida da Liberdade, dodging people like I was in some action movie. I finally made it to the market, and wow, it was packed! Fish everywhere! Sardines, eels, you name it. I was in heaven. But then, I saw something that made my blood boil. Some dude was tossing fish around like they were toys. I mean, c’mon! These are living creatures! I marched over, ready to give him a piece of my mind. “Hey, man! Show some respect!” He just laughed. Ugh, people can be so clueless. After that little drama, I needed a breather. I wandered over to the riverbank. The view was stunning. The sun glimmering on the water, the boats bobbing up and down. I took a deep breath. This is why I love Soure. It’s beautiful, ya know? But then, I spotted something weird. A fish flopping around on the bank. I rushed over, and it was a rare species! My heart skipped a beat. I carefully scooped it up and put it back in the water. Phew! Saved the day! Feeling like a hero, I decided to treat myself. I hit up a local restaurant on Rua da Estação. Ordered some grilled sardines. They were to die for! I mean, seriously, the best I’ve ever had. I was in foodie heaven. But then, as I was eating, I overheard some tourists talking about how they were gonna fish in the lagoon. I couldn’t help myself. I leaned over and said, “You guys know about the fishing regulations, right?” They looked at me like I was crazy. I mean, come on! Respect the fish! After that, I headed back to my place, exhausted but happy. Soure had thrown me a wild day. I laughed, I got mad, I even saved a fish. What more could an ichthyologist ask for? As I lay in bed, I thought about all the fish I’d seen. The beauty of it all. Soure, with its charming streets and vibrant life, never fails to surprise me. Can’t wait for tomorrow!
