Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being a lifeguard in Markovci is like riding a rollercoaster. One minute you’re chillin’, the next you’re in full-on rescue mode. So, let’s rewind to this morning. I roll up to the beach at 9 AM, sun’s shining, waves are chillin’. I’m thinkin’, “Today’s gonna be a breeze.” But nah, not in Markovci! First off, I gotta deal with the usual crowd at the Plaža Markovci. You know, the fams with their screaming kids, the teens blasting music like they’re at a rave, and the old folks just trying to catch some rays on Ulica Kralja Tomislava. So, I’m settin’ up my station, right? And then I see this dude, let’s call him “Splashy.” He’s out there trying to impress his girl, doing cannonballs like he’s in the Olympics. But bro, he’s way too close to the rocks! I’m like, “Dude, chill! You’re gonna end up as a fish snack!” Then, outta nowhere, I hear this loud scream. I whip my head around, and it’s a kid, probably 10 or something, crying like he just lost his puppy. Turns out, he dropped his ice cream in the sand. I mean, c’mon, kid! It’s just ice cream! But I get it, I’ve been there. So, I run over, and I’m like, “Hey, buddy, let’s get you a new one.” I grab a cone from the beach shack on Ulica Mladosti. The guy there knows me, so he hooks me up. Kid’s face lights up like it’s Christmas. But then, just as I’m feelin’ like a hero, I spot Splashy again. He’s now trying to surf on a boogie board. Spoiler alert: he’s not good at it. He wipes out hard, and I can’t help but laugh. But then I see him struggling to get back up. My lifeguard instincts kick in. I sprint over, and I’m like, “Dude, you good?” He’s gasping for air, and I’m thinkin’, “This is not how I wanna start my day.” After that drama, I’m finally chillin’ again, just watching the waves roll in. The sun’s high, and I’m feelin’ good. But then, I see this group of teenagers on Ulica Slobode. They’re throwing a frisbee, and it’s headed straight for my station. I’m like, “No way, not today!” I dodge it like a pro, but it hits this old lady sunbathing. She’s not happy, let me tell ya. She starts yelling in Slovenian, and I’m just standing there, trying not to laugh. Then, the afternoon hits, and it’s like the beach turns into a circus. I swear, I see a dog running around with a beach ball, kids building sandcastles, and a couple arguing over who gets the last slice of pizza. It’s chaos, but I love it. But then, the real kicker happens. A storm rolls in outta nowhere. Dark clouds, wind picking up, and I’m like, “Oh no, not today!” I start blowing my whistle, telling everyone to get outta the water. People are looking at me like I’m crazy. “It’s just a little rain!” they say. But I’m like, “Nah, man, this is Markovci! We don’t mess with storms!” I’m running around, trying to get everyone to safety. I’m soaked, my hair’s a mess, and I’m just praying no one gets left behind. Finally, I get everyone to the beach shack, and we’re all huddled together, watching the storm roll in. It’s kinda beautiful, in a scary way. After the storm passes, the sun comes back out, and it’s like nothing happened. People are back in the water, like, “What storm?” I’m just standing there, exhausted but happy. I love this job, even on the craziest days. So, yeah, that was my day in Markovci. Full of laughs, a bit of chaos, and a whole lotta heart. Can’t wait to do it all again tomorrow!
