Man, what a day! I swear, being a cashier in Ptuj is like riding a rollercoaster, but without the safety bar. So, I roll into work at this little shop on Trg svobode, right? The sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. First customer walks in. Old dude, probably been around since dinosaurs roamed. He’s got a cart full of stuff—like, seriously, who needs 10 jars of pickles? I mean, I love pickles, but c’mon! He’s fumbling with his wallet, and I’m just standing there, tapping my foot, thinking, “Dude, I got a line forming here!” Finally, he pays in coins. COINS! I’m counting them like I’m in a heist movie. Then, boom! The door swings open, and in walks this lady with a dog. Not just any dog—a huge, fluffy beast that looks like it could eat my lunch. She’s all, “Oh, he’s friendly!” Yeah, right. I’m pretty sure he’s plotting my demise. I’m trying to scan her stuff, and this dog is sniffing my shoes. Like, chill, buddy! I’m not a snack! After that, things get wild. A group of teenagers bursts in, blasting music from their phones. I’m like, “Is this a store or a club?” They’re laughing, throwing snacks in the air. I’m dodging chips like I’m in the Matrix. One of them trips and spills soda everywhere. I’m just standing there, thinking, “Great, now I gotta clean this up.” But then, outta nowhere, I see my buddy Luka from high school. He’s walking by on Ulica heroja, and I’m like, “Luka! What’s up?” We start chatting, and I forget about the chaos for a sec. He’s telling me about his new job, and I’m like, “Dude, that’s awesome!” But then, I remember I’m at work, and I gotta focus. So, I get back to it. The old dude is back, this time with a coupon. I’m like, “Bro, you just left!” He’s all confused, and I’m trying not to lose it. I mean, how many times can one guy come back in a day? Then, the power goes out. Just like that. One minute, I’m ringing up a lady’s groceries, and the next, it’s pitch black. I’m standing there, thinking, “Great, now I’m stuck in a horror movie.” People start panicking, and I’m just trying to keep it together. I’m like, “It’s cool, we’ll just chill for a bit.” But inside, I’m screaming. Finally, the lights flicker back on, and I’m relieved. But then, I see the line is even longer. I’m like, “Why do people love shopping in the dark?” As the day drags on, I’m exhausted. I’m counting down the minutes till I can clock out. But then, this little kid comes up to me with a huge smile. He’s holding a candy bar and says, “This is for you!” I’m like, “Aww, thanks, buddy!” It’s the cutest thing ever. Suddenly, all the craziness fades away. By the time I finally close up, I’m a mix of emotions. Happy, tired, a bit annoyed, but mostly just grateful. I step outside onto Ulica heroja, and the sunset is gorgeous. I take a deep breath, thinking, “Man, Ptuj is something else.” So yeah, that was my day. Just another wild ride in this crazy little town. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
