Man, what a day! I swear, being a cashier in Velke-Kapusany is like riding a rollercoaster, but without the safety bar. So, I roll into work at the local supermarket on Hlavná Street, right? The sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First customer walks in. This lady, bless her heart, has a cart full of stuff. I mean, it’s like she’s preparing for the apocalypse or something. She’s got everything from bread to, I kid you not, a giant inflatable unicorn. Like, who needs that? Anyway, she’s fumbling around, and I’m just standing there, trying to keep my cool. Then, outta nowhere, the power goes out! Just poof! Lights off, registers down. I’m standing there like a deer in headlights. The lady? She freaks out. “What’s happening?!” she yells. I’m like, “I dunno, maybe the unicorn’s cursed?” LOL. So, we’re all just standing there in the dark. I can hear the folks on Mlynská Street outside, honking and shouting. It’s chaos! I’m trying to keep it light, cracking jokes, but inside I’m like, “Please, just let me get through this shift.” Finally, the power comes back. Thank goodness! But now, the line is like a mile long. I’m scanning items like a madman. I swear, I’ve never seen so many bags of chips in my life. And don’t even get me started on the guy who pays with coins. Like, dude, it’s 2023! Who carries that much change? Then, this kid runs in, right? He’s got a skateboard and a huge smile. He zooms past me, almost knocking over a display of soda. I’m like, “Whoa, slow down, Speed Racer!” But he just laughs and keeps going. Kids these days, man. Around noon, I finally get a break. I step outside for some fresh air on Špitálska Street. The sun’s out, and I’m thinking, “Maybe this day ain’t so bad.” I grab a quick snack from the bakery nearby. Their pastries are to die for! I mean, if you’re ever in Velke-Kapusany, you gotta try their trdelník. It’s like heaven wrapped in dough. But then, back to work. More customers, more chaos. This one dude comes in, and he’s just angry. Like, why are you mad at me? I didn’t eat your last donut! He’s complaining about prices, and I’m just standing there, nodding, thinking, “Bro, I don’t set the prices. I just scan and bag.” By the end of my shift, I’m exhausted. I’m counting down the minutes. Finally, I clock out and step outside. The sky’s turning orange, and I’m like, “Wow, Velke-Kapusany, you’re kinda beautiful.” I stroll down to the bus stop on Námestie Slobody, feeling a mix of relief and disbelief. As I wait for the bus, I see the same kid from earlier. He’s still skating around, and I can’t help but smile. Maybe tomorrow will be better. Or maybe it’ll be another wild ride. Who knows? But hey, that’s life in Velke-Kapusany, right? Full of surprises, chaos, and a little bit of magic. So, yeah, that was my day. Just another day in the life of a cashier. Can’t wait to do it all over again!
