Man, what a day! Seriously, Hengchun (tw) is wild. I woke up thinking it’d be chill. Nope. Not even close. First off, I hit up the local breakfast spot on Zhongshan Rd. You know, the one with the best dan bing? Yeah, that one. I’m all about that crispy goodness. But guess what? They ran out! Like, how do you run out of breakfast at 8 AM? I was hangry, fam. So, I grabbed a quick bao instead. Not the same, but whatever. I’m walking down the street, and it’s already super hot. Like, I’m sweating buckets. Hengchun is known for its tropical vibes, but today? It felt like the sun was personally targeting me. I decided to stroll over to the Hengchun Old Town. You know, the one with the ancient city walls? I thought, “Hey, let’s get some culture.” But then, I see a bunch of tourists taking selfies. Ugh. I mean, I get it, but c’mon! It’s like they’re blocking the whole view. I’m standing there, trying to be patient, but inside I’m like, “Move it, people!” Finally, I squeeze through and snap a pic. The walls are so cool, though. They’ve been around since the 1800s. Crazy, right? I’m thinking about how many stories those walls could tell. Then, I head over to the night market on Hengnan Rd. I’m pumped for some street food. I mean, who doesn’t love stinky tofu? But guess what? I get there, and it’s like a sea of people. I can’t even move! I’m dodging kids and old folks like I’m in a video game. I finally find a stall selling bubble tea. Yes! I order a taro one. But the lady behind the counter? She’s moving at a snail’s pace. I’m standing there, tapping my foot, thinking, “C’mon, lady! I need my fix!” After what feels like an eternity, I get my drink. It’s so good, though. Sweet, creamy, and just the right amount of chewy. I’m feeling better already. But then, outta nowhere, it starts pouring. Like, monsoon-level rain. I’m soaked in seconds. I duck into a nearby shop on Chenggong Rd. It’s a cute little place selling handmade crafts. I’m browsing, trying to distract myself from the rain. I spot this adorable ceramic cat. I’m like, “I need this in my life.” But then, I realize I left my wallet in my other bag. Ugh! I’m so annoyed. I’m standing there, trying to explain to the shop owner, who’s looking at me like I’m crazy. Finally, the rain lets up. I dash out, but my shoes are squishy. Gross. I decide to head to the beach. Hengchun has some of the best beaches, right? I’m thinking, “A little sun will fix my mood.” I get to Kenting Beach, and it’s beautiful. The waves are crashing, and the sunset is on fire. I’m feeling all the feels. I plop down on the sand, just soaking it all in. But then, I see a group of kids flying kites. One of them runs right into me! I’m like, “Dude, watch where you’re going!” But then he smiles, and I can’t help but laugh. Kids are the best. As the sun sets, I’m reflecting on my day. It was a rollercoaster, for sure. From hangry to happy, from annoyed to amazed. Hengchun, you’ve got my heart. I head back, exhausted but content. I can’t wait to tell my friends about this crazy day. Hengchun, you’re a wild ride, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
