Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being a parachutist firefighter in Wulai is like riding a rollercoaster that’s on fire. Seriously, I woke up this morning, and the sun was shining over the mountains. I thought, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. So, I’m gearin’ up at the station on Wulai Street, right? Just me and my crew, chattin’ about last night’s game. Then, boom! The alarm goes off. My heart’s racin’ like I just chugged a Red Bull. We get the call—fire at the hot springs near the river. Like, are you kidding me? The hot springs? That’s where all the tourists go! We hop in the truck, and I’m thinkin’ about how I’m gonna jump in and save the day. Wulai’s got these beautiful waterfalls, and I’m like, “Not today, nature!” We zoom down the winding roads, and I can’t help but admire the scenery. Those lush green hills, the sound of the river—it’s like a postcard. But then, I remember we’re on a mission. We get there, and it’s chaos. Smoke everywhere! I can’t see a thing. I’m like, “Where’s the fire?” Turns out, it’s right by the entrance to the hot springs. People are freakin’ out, and I’m tryin’ to keep my cool. I mean, I’m a pro, right? But inside, I’m like, “What the heck is goin’ on?” I grab my gear and head up to the roof. The view is insane! You can see the whole valley. But then, I spot the flames. They’re licking the side of the building, and I’m like, “Not on my watch!” I jump outta the chopper, and it’s like I’m flying. The wind’s in my face, and I’m feelin’ like a superhero. But then, I land, and it’s a whole different story. The heat hits me like a freight train. I’m sweating buckets, and my brain’s racing. I start spraying water, but it’s like trying to put out a bonfire with a squirt gun. I’m yelling at my team, “More water! We need more!” And then, outta nowhere, this lady runs up to me. She’s all frantic, waving her arms. “My cat! My cat’s inside!” I’m like, “Lady, we gotta save the building first!” But she’s not havin’ it. So, I’m torn. Do I save the cat or the building? Finally, I’m like, “Fine! I’ll get your cat!” I dash inside, and it’s like a scene from a horror movie. Smoke everywhere, and I can barely breathe. I’m crawling on the floor, and I’m thinkin’, “This is how I die.” But then, I hear it—a little meow. I follow the sound, and there’s this fluffy ball of fur, just chillin’ under a table. I scoop it up, and I’m outta there! I hand the cat to the lady, and she’s crying. I’m like, “Yeah, yeah, happy ending, whatever.” But then, she hugs me. I’m not a hugger, man! I’m all sweaty and gross. But I can’t push her away. So, I just stand there, awkwardly patting her back. After what feels like forever, we finally get the fire under control. I’m exhausted, but I’m feelin’ good. We saved the day! Wulai’s still standing, and the hot springs will be back in business soon. As I’m packin’ up, I can’t help but laugh. This city, man. It’s wild. From the hot springs to the crazy streets like Fuxing Road, it’s always an adventure. I love it here, even when it drives me nuts. So, yeah, that was my day. Just another Tuesday in Wulai. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
