Man, what a day! I’m an ichthyologist, right? So, you’d think I’d be chillin’ with fish all day. But nah, today was a wild ride in Kubey. Like, seriously, I didn’t sign up for this chaos. First off, I woke up late. Alarm didn’t go off. Classic! I scrambled outta bed, threw on whatever I could find. I mean, who needs matching socks? Not me! I dashed outta my apartment on Shevchenka Street, coffee in hand, praying I wouldn’t spill it. Spoiler alert: I spilled it. All over my notes. Great start, right? So, I’m hustlin’ down the street, dodging babushkas and their endless bags of groceries. They’re like ninjas, I swear. One minute you’re walking, the next you’re face-to-face with a cabbage. Anyway, I finally made it to the river. The Dnipro, baby! It’s beautiful, but today? It was like a fishy soap opera. I set up my gear near the bridge on Haharina Street. The sun was shining, birds were chirping, and I was ready to catch some fish. But then, outta nowhere, this kid runs up to me. He’s like, “Mister, can you help me catch a fish?” I’m thinkin’, “Dude, I’m not your personal fishing guide!” But I couldn’t say no. So, I grabbed my net and we went to work. We spent like an hour trying to catch this slippery little guy. I was getting frustrated. I mean, I study fish for a living! But this one? It was like it had a PhD in evasion. Finally, we caught it! The kid was ecstatic. I was like, “Dude, you just caught a minnow.” But he was jumping around like he won the lottery. Kids, man. They make everything seem epic. Then, just as I’m about to pack up, I hear this loud crash. I turn around, and there’s a guy on a bike, totally wiped out. He was trying to impress some girl, I guess. He was fine, but his bike? Not so much. I couldn’t help but laugh. I mean, come on! Who tries to do tricks on a bike in Kubey? After that, I decided to grab some lunch. I hit up this little spot on Kostiantynivska Street. Best borscht in town, no joke. I’m slurping it down, and this old man starts chatting me up about fish. He’s telling me about the “legendary fish” in the Dnipro. I’m like, “Dude, I study fish. I know what’s in there.” But he’s convinced there’s a giant catfish lurking. I’m rolling my eyes, but it’s kinda cute. Then, I get a call from my boss. He’s like, “We need you to present at the conference next week.” I’m thinking, “Great, just what I need.” I can barely keep my head above water with my research, and now I gotta present? Ugh! So, I finish my borscht, and I’m walking back to my car, right? And I see this street performer on Velyka Perspektyvna. He’s playing the accordion, and honestly, it was kinda nice. I stopped for a minute, just vibing. It reminded me of why I love this city. The people, the energy, the random moments. But then, I remembered I had to get back to work. I hopped in my car, and as I’m driving, I hit traffic on Haharina again. Seriously? It’s like the universe is testing me. I’m stuck there, fuming, thinking about all the fish I could be studying instead. Finally, I made it home. I flopped on my couch, exhausted. I thought about the kid, the old man, the bike crash. Kubey is wild, man. It’s chaotic, but it’s home. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. So yeah, that was my day. Just another crazy, fish-filled adventure in Kubey. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
