Man, what a day! I swear, being a cashier in Mena is like riding a rollercoaster with no seatbelt. So, I roll into work at this little shop on Shevchenka Street, right? The sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m thinkin’, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Ha! Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First customer walks in. This dude, I swear, he’s got a cart full of snacks. Like, who needs that many chips? Anyway, he’s fumbling around, can’t find his wallet. I’m standing there, tapping my foot, thinking, “C’mon, man, I got a line forming!” Finally, he pulls out a crumpled bill that looks like it’s been through a war. I’m like, “Dude, you sure you wanna pay with that?” But whatever, I take it. Then, outta nowhere, this lady storms in. She’s all flustered, yelling about how someone stole her phone on Haharina Street. I’m just standing there, trying to ring up the next customer, and she’s like, “Did you see it?!” I’m like, “Lady, I’m just a cashier, not a detective!” But she keeps going on and on. I mean, I get it, losing your phone sucks, but c’mon! After that, things got wild. The power goes out! Just poof! One minute, I’m ringing up a pack of gum, the next, it’s pitch black. I’m fumbling around for my phone to use as a flashlight. Customers are freaking out, and I’m just trying to keep it together. I’m like, “Hey, it’s just a little blackout! We’ll be fine!” But inside, I’m like, “What if we’re stuck here forever?!” Finally, the lights flicker back on, and I’m relieved. But then, this old guy comes in, right? He’s got this huge bag of flour, and he’s like, “I need to make bread!” I’m thinking, “Dude, it’s not the Great Depression!” But I ring him up anyway. He starts telling me about his secret recipe, and I’m just nodding along, half-listening. Then, my buddy Sasha shows up. He’s always got the craziest stories. He tells me he saw a cat on the roof of a building on Kostiantynivska Street, just chilling like it owns the place. I’m cracking up, picturing this cat like it’s the king of Mena. But then, the day takes a turn. This group of teenagers comes in, blasting music from their phones. I’m like, “Seriously? In a store?” They’re laughing, dancing, and I’m just trying to keep my cool. I tell them to turn it down, and they look at me like I’m the Grinch. I mean, I get it, but c’mon! By the end of my shift, I’m exhausted. I’m counting the register, and I realize I’ve made a mistake. I’m short on cash! Panic mode activated! I’m sweating bullets, thinking, “What if I get fired?” But then I remember I’m human, and mistakes happen. I take a deep breath and fix it. Finally, I clock out and step outside. The sun’s setting over Mena, and it’s beautiful. I walk down to the river, just to chill. I think about the day, all the craziness, and I can’t help but laugh. Mena’s wild, man. It’s got its quirks, just like me. So yeah, that was my day. Full of ups and downs, but hey, that’s life, right? Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
