Man, what a day! I swear, Pyatykhatky never ceases to amaze me. I’m just a simple shepherd, right? But today? Today was a wild ride. So, I wake up early, like usual, at the crack of dawn. The sun was barely peeking over the hills. I’m thinking, “Great day to herd some sheep.” But nah, life had other plans. I head out to the fields near the river, you know, the one by Shevchenka Street. It’s peaceful there, just me and my flock. But then, outta nowhere, I hear this loud honking. I look up, and it’s a bunch of kids on bikes, racing down the street. They’re screaming and laughing, and I’m like, “Hey, watch out for my sheep!” But do they listen? Nope! They zoom right past, and one of ‘em nearly knocks over my favorite ewe, Bessie. I’m fuming! Like, come on, kids! After that chaos, I decide to take a break. I stroll over to the market on Haharina Street. Man, the smells hit you like a brick! Fresh bread, fruits, and oh, the pastries! I grab a couple of pirozhki. Best decision ever! I’m munching away, feeling all happy, when I spot my buddy Vasyl. Vasyl’s a character, let me tell ya. He’s always got some wild story. Today, he’s going on about how he saw a goat trying to climb a tree. I’m like, “Dude, are you serious?” But he swears it’s true! I can’t help but laugh. Only in Pyatykhatky, right? So, I’m feeling good, but then I remember I left my sheep unattended. Panic mode activated! I rush back, and guess what? They’re all huddled together, looking at me like, “Where you been, man?” I’m relieved, but then I see a couple of them munching on some random flowers. I’m like, “Oh no, not the poppies!” Now I’m stressed. I start chasing them around, yelling, “Get back here!” It’s like a scene from a comedy movie. I’m running, they’re running, and I’m tripping over my own feet. Classic! Finally, I manage to corral them back. I’m sweating like a pig, but hey, at least I didn’t lose any. Just when I think the day can’t get crazier, I hear this loud crash. I turn around, and there’s a car that just smashed into a lamppost on the corner of Kostiantynivska Street. I’m standing there, mouth agape, thinking, “What the heck is going on today?” The driver hops out, looking all flustered. He starts yelling at the lamppost like it’s the lamppost’s fault. I can’t help but chuckle. I mean, come on! It’s a lamppost! As the sun starts to set, I finally head home. I’m exhausted but happy. Pyatykhatky, with all its quirks, never fails to surprise me. I plop down on my porch, watching the stars come out. I think about the day’s madness and can’t help but smile. Tomorrow’s another day. Who knows what’ll happen? But for now, I’m just a shepherd, chillin’ in Pyatykhatky, and that’s all I need.
