Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being a prison warden ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. So, I wake up in my flat on Queen’s Road, right? The sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m thinkin’, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. First off, I’m late. Classic me. I rush outta my place, nearly trip over my own feet. I grab a coffee from that little café on Terrace Road. You know the one? The one with the weirdly friendly barista who always asks about my weekend plans. I’m like, “Mate, I’m a warden. My weekend plans are usually Netflix and avoiding human interaction.” But I smile and nod, ‘cause I’m polite like that. So, I get to the prison, and it’s already chaos. I mean, come on! It’s Aberystwyth, not London! But nah, the inmates are all riled up. Apparently, someone’s been spreading rumors about a new guy. You know how it is. “Oh, he’s a tough nut,” “He’s got connections,” blah blah blah. I’m just tryin’ to keep the peace, but it’s like herding cats. Then, outta nowhere, I get a call. It’s the local police. They found a body near the pier. The pier! I’m like, “Great, just what I need.” I mean, I love Aberystwyth’s coastline, but not like this! I can’t even enjoy the view without thinkin’ about some poor soul. So, I head down to the pier after my shift. The sea’s crashing against the rocks, and I’m tryin’ to clear my head. I see the old Victorian pier, and it’s beautiful, but today it feels heavy. I’m thinkin’ about how many people walk there, just enjoying life, and now this. It’s a bummer, man. I bump into a mate from the old days, Dave. He’s a fisherman, always has a story. He’s like, “You hear about the body?” I’m like, “Yeah, mate, I’m not in the mood.” But he goes on about how it’s probably just some drunk who fell in. I mean, I hope so, but still. Then, I get a text from my sister. She’s in town, and she wants to meet up. I’m like, “Sure, why not?” I could use a laugh. We meet at the Castle Grounds, and it’s nice to see her. She’s always got that energy, you know? We’re chatting, and she’s telling me about her new job at the university. I’m proud of her, but I can’t shake off the day’s heaviness. Suddenly, she says, “You should lighten up! Let’s grab some fish and chips!” I’m like, “You read my mind!” So, we hit up the chip shop on North Parade. Best chips in town, hands down. We sit by the beach, munching away, and I’m feelin’ a bit better. The sun’s setting, and it’s gorgeous. But then, I see a group of kids messing around. They’re throwing stones into the water, laughing. And I’m like, “Man, I miss being a kid.” No worries, just fun. But then one of ‘em slips and falls in! I’m like, “Oh no, not again!” But he pops up, laughing, and I’m relieved. Kids, man. They’re wild. After that, I head home, exhausted. I’m thinkin’ about the day. The chaos, the body, the laughter. Aberystwyth’s a strange place. It’s got its dark sides, but it’s also full of life. I love it, even when it drives me nuts. So, yeah, that was my day. Just another rollercoaster in this little seaside town. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
