Man, what a day! I woke up in Cambridge, and let me tell ya, it was a rollercoaster. First off, I’m a Mourner, right? So, my job is all about feelings, and today was like a punch in the gut. I strolled down King’s Parade, the sun was shining, and I thought, “Hey, maybe today won’t be so bad.” But nah, life had other plans. I was just minding my own business, trying to enjoy the view of King’s College, when I bumped into this dude. He was all like, “You look sad, mate.” I mean, duh! I’m a Mourner! But I just smiled and nodded. Then, I headed over to the Market Square. You know, the one with all the stalls? I was hoping to grab a bacon sarnie. But guess what? They were out! I was like, “Are you kidding me?!” I mean, who runs out of bacon in Cambridge? It’s practically a crime! So, I ended up with a dodgy-looking veggie wrap. Ugh. Not the same vibe, ya know? I sat on a bench, trying to enjoy my sad excuse for lunch, when I overheard this couple arguing. They were going on about some posh college or whatever. I couldn’t help but chuckle. Like, really? You’re in Cambridge, and you’re fighting over which college is better? Get a grip! After that, I wandered down to the River Cam. It’s beautiful there, right? But today, it was packed with tourists. I mean, come on! I just wanted a moment of peace. But no, there were these punters everywhere, and they were all like, “Ooh, look at the bridge!” I wanted to shout, “Yeah, it’s just a bridge, chill out!” But then, something unexpected happened. I saw this little kid, probably about five, trying to catch a duck. He was so determined! I couldn’t help but smile. Kids have this way of making everything seem magical, don’t they? I thought, “Man, I wish I could be that carefree.” Then, outta nowhere, it started to rain. Typical Cambridge, right? One minute it’s sunny, the next it’s like the sky’s crying. I ducked into a café on Trinity Street. I ordered a hot chocolate, and the barista was super friendly. We chatted about the weather, and I felt a bit better. It’s funny how a small convo can lift your spirits. But then, I got a call. A family wanted me to come to a funeral. Like, right now. I was like, “Seriously? Can’t a Mourner catch a break?” But duty calls, so I rushed over to the cemetery on Newmarket Road. When I got there, it was all gloomy and somber. I mean, it’s a funeral, duh. But then, I saw this old bloke trying to tell a joke. He was like, “Why did the scarecrow win an award? Because he was outstanding in his field!” I couldn’t help but laugh. It was so outta place, but it lightened the mood. After the service, I chatted with some folks. They were sharing stories about the deceased, and it was heartwarming. I realized that even in sadness, there’s joy in memories. It’s a weird balance, ya know? By the end of the day, I was exhausted. I walked back through the streets of Cambridge, feeling a mix of emotions. I passed by the Fitzwilliam Museum, and I thought about how art can capture feelings. It’s all connected, isn’t it? So, yeah, today was a whirlwind. From bacon sarnies to duck-chasing kids, it was a lot. Cambridge, you’ve got my heart, even on the tough days. I guess that’s life, right? Full of ups and downs, but always worth it.
