Man, what a day! Seriously, I’m still buzzing from it. So, I’m an anticorrosion agent, right? Sounds fancy, but really, I just make sure metal doesn’t rust away. But today? Today was a whole different ball game. I woke up in my flat on Walsworth Road, and it was one of those mornings where you just know something’s off. Like, I spilled my coffee all over my favorite “Keep Calm and Corrode On” mug. Classic. I mean, who needs a clean mug anyway? So, I head out, and the weather’s all over the place. One minute it’s sunny, the next it’s pouring. Typical Hitchin, right? I’m walking down the High Street, dodging puddles like I’m in some weird game of hopscotch. And let me tell ya, the shops are buzzing. I pass by the market, and there’s this old bloke selling the freshest strawberries. I’m like, “Mate, I’ll take a punnet!” Best decision ever. Sweet, juicy, and totally worth the splurge. But then, I get to my first job on Churchgate. I’m supposed to treat this old iron gate. It’s been there since forever, probably since the dinosaurs roamed or something. I’m all set up, and then BAM! This kid on a bike zooms past and knocks over my gear. I’m fuming! Like, come on, mate! You could’ve at least said sorry! After that little disaster, I’m trying to focus, but my mind’s racing. I start thinking about how Hitchin’s got this weird mix of old and new. You’ve got the historic buildings, like the St. Mary’s Church, which is stunning, and then you’ve got these modern cafes popping up everywhere. It’s like, pick a lane, Hitchin! Anyway, I finally finish up at Churchgate, and I’m feeling pretty chuffed. I head over to the British Schools Museum next. I’ve always wanted to check it out. It’s got this vibe, you know? Like, you can almost hear the kids laughing and learning. I’m wandering around, and I spot this old classroom. It’s got the desks and everything. I can’t help but imagine what it was like back in the day. Then, outta nowhere, I bump into my mate Dave. He’s a painter, and he’s got this wild idea to do a mural on the side of a building on the Market Place. I’m like, “Dude, that’s gonna be epic!” We start chatting about colors and designs, and I’m getting all hyped up. But then, just as we’re vibing, this random guy walks by and starts giving us grief. He’s all like, “You can’t paint here!” I’m thinking, “Chill, mate! It’s art!” But he’s not having it. So, we just laugh it off. Hitchin’s got its characters, that’s for sure. After that, I’m feeling a bit peckish, so I hit up this little café on Bucklersbury. The scones there? To die for! I grab one and sit outside, soaking in the atmosphere. People are walking by, chatting, and I’m just enjoying the moment. It’s one of those days where you realize how cool Hitchin is. But then, I get a call. It’s my boss. He’s like, “We need you at the old railway station.” I’m thinking, “Great, just what I wanted!” So, I rush over there, and it’s a bit of a trek. I’m sweating by the time I get there. When I arrive, I see this massive rust problem. I’m talking serious corrosion. I’m like, “What the heck happened here?” Turns out, they’ve been neglecting it for ages. I’m ready to throw down some serious anticorrosion magic, but I’m also feeling a bit overwhelmed. As I’m working, I can’t help but think about how Hitchin’s changing. New stuff popping up, but the old stuff needs love too. It’s like a balancing act. I finish up, and I’m feeling proud. I saved that station from becoming a rusty relic. Finally, I head home, and I’m exhausted but happy. I think about all the little moments today. The kid on the bike, the mural idea, the scones. Hitchin’s got its quirks, but that’s what makes it special. So, yeah, what a day! I’m ready to crash, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Here’s to more crazy days in Hitchin!
