Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being an arborist in Horwich is like a rollercoaster ride, but today? Today was somethin’ else. So, I roll outta bed, right? It’s like 7 AM, and I’m already feelin’ the weight of the world. I grab my cuppa, and I’m thinkin’, “Today’s the day!” I had a job on Blackrod Road. Big ol’ oak tree, needs a trim. Easy peasy, or so I thought. I get to the site, and it’s a right mess. The tree’s all tangled up with wires. I’m talkin’ power lines, phone lines, the whole shebang. I’m like, “Great, just what I need.” I start climbin’ up, and my heart’s racin’. I’m up there, snippin’ branches, feelin’ like a king. Then, outta nowhere, I hear this loud bang! I look down, and some bloke’s knocked over a bin. I’m thinkin’, “Seriously? You couldn’t just walk around it?” But nah, he’s gotta be a muppet. Anyway, I’m tryin’ to focus, but now I’m just mad. Then, I spot this little kid on the street. He’s lookin’ up at me, wide-eyed. I wave, and he waves back. That made me smile, ya know? Kids are pure joy. But then, his dog runs off, chasin’ a squirrel or somethin’. The kid starts cryin’, and I’m like, “Oh no, not today!” I finish up the tree, and I’m feelin’ good. I’m thinkin’ I’ll grab a pasty from the bakery on Lee Lane. Best pasties in town, no joke. But as I’m packin’ up, I hear this shout. It’s the kid! He’s runnin’ towards me, dog in tow. “You saved my dog!” he yells. I’m like, “Mate, I just trimmed a tree!” But he’s convinced I’m some kinda hero. So, I head to the bakery, right? I’m buzzin’ from the kid’s energy. I get my pasty, and it’s glorious. I sit on a bench near the Horwich Parkway station, just chillin’. But then, I see this old fella tryin’ to cross the road. He’s shufflin’ like he’s in slow-mo. I’m thinkin’, “C’mon, mate, you can do it!” But then, a car comes zoomin’ by. I’m like, “Oi! Slow down!” The driver just honks at the old bloke. I’m fumin’. I jump up, shoutin’, “Have some respect!” The driver gives me a look like I’m the crazy one. Whatever, mate. After that, I’m feelin’ a bit drained. I decide to head to the park on the corner of Victoria Road. It’s a nice spot, ya know? I plop down on the grass, just takin’ it all in. Kids laughin’, dogs barkin’, and the sun’s shinin’. I think, “This is what it’s all about.” But then, I see a group of teens. They’re messin’ about, throwin’ stuff around. I’m like, “Seriously? Can’t you just chill?” I’m gettin’ all worked up again. I’m not a grumpy old man, but c’mon! Finally, I head home, and I’m knackered. I flop on the couch, thinkin’ about the day. It was a wild ride, full of ups and downs. But ya know what? I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Horwich, with all its quirks, is my kinda place. So, here’s to more crazy days! Bring it on!
