Man, what a day! Seriously, I’m still reeling from it. So, I woke up in Lerwick, right? The sun was barely up, and I was already late for work. Classic me. I live on King Street, which is like the main drag here. You know, the one with all the shops and cafes? Yeah, that one. So, I’m rushing out, and I trip over my own feet. Like, how does that even happen? I’m a lab head, not a circus act! Anyway, I finally make it to the lab on Commercial Road. It’s a cozy little spot, but today it felt like a pressure cooker. First thing, my assistant, Jamie, bursts in. “Boss, we’ve got a problem!” Oh great, just what I needed. Turns out, our new equipment from the mainland got stuck in customs. Ugh! I mean, come on! It’s not like we’re smuggling anything. Just some fancy beakers and a centrifuge. I was fuming. I mean, Lerwick is small, but it’s not that small! We need our stuff! So, I decided to take a little stroll down to the harbor. You know, the one by the Lerwick Town Hall? It’s beautiful there, with the boats bobbing and the seagulls squawking like they own the place. I’m standing there, trying to calm down, when I see this old guy feeding the seagulls. And I’m like, “Dude, you know they’re just gonna poop on your car, right?” But he just laughs. I guess he’s seen it all. Then, outta nowhere, I get a call from the supplier. They’re like, “Hey, we sorted it out!” I was like, “Really? You sure?” I mean, I’ve heard that before. But they promised it’d be here by noon. I was stoked! So, I head back to the lab, feeling a bit lighter. But then, I walk in, and Jamie’s got this look on their face. “Uh, boss, we have another issue.” I swear, I almost lost it. Turns out, one of our samples got contaminated. Like, how does that even happen? We’re supposed to be the experts! I was ready to pull my hair out. But then, I remembered the time I spilled coffee all over my notes. So, I took a deep breath. “Alright, let’s fix this.” We worked our butts off, and somehow, we managed to salvage most of it. Finally, the equipment arrives. I’m practically dancing in the lab. It’s like Christmas morning! We set it up, and it’s all shiny and new. I felt like a kid with a new toy. After work, I decided to treat myself. I hit up the Fish & Chips shop on the corner of Market Street. Best in town, no contest. I ordered the biggest portion. I mean, I earned it, right? As I’m munching away, I see the sunset over the harbor. It’s stunning. The sky’s all pink and orange, and I’m just sitting there, soaking it all in. I thought about how crazy the day was. From tripping over my own feet to almost losing my mind at work, it was a rollercoaster. But that’s Lerwick for ya. It’s small, it’s quirky, and it’s full of surprises. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Well, maybe a day without chaos. But who am I kidding? That’s what makes it fun! So, yeah, that was my day. Just another wild ride in Lerwick. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
