Man, what a day! Seriously, I’m still reeling from it. So, I’m an auditor, right? Not the most thrilling gig, but today? Wow. Just wow. I started off at the office on Northbrook Street. You know, the one with that dodgy coffee shop? Yeah, that one. I swear, their coffee tastes like burnt rubber. But I needed a jolt. I was half asleep, and I had a mountain of paperwork to tackle. Ugh. So, I’m chugging this awful brew, and my phone buzzes. It’s my boss. “Hey, we need you to check out this new client on Market Place.” Great. Just what I wanted. A surprise audit. I mean, who doesn’t love a little chaos, right? I hop on my bike, zooming down the streets. Newbury’s got this weird charm. Like, you’ve got the old buildings mixed with modern shops. It’s like a time warp or something. I pass by the old Corn Exchange. It’s beautiful, but I’m too busy thinking about numbers to appreciate it. I get to the client’s place, and it’s a total mess. Papers everywhere, like a tornado hit. I’m talking about receipts from 2019. Seriously? Who keeps that stuff? I’m already feeling my blood pressure rise. I mean, come on! Then, out of nowhere, the owner walks in. This guy, right? He’s wearing flip-flops and a Hawaiian shirt. In Newbury. In October. I can’t even. I’m trying to keep a straight face. “Hey, mate, you got any idea how to organize this?” I’m like, “Dude, you’re the one in charge!” So, I start digging through the chaos. I find a receipt for a “business lunch” that was clearly a trip to the pub. I mean, who doesn’t love a cheeky pint? But c’mon, man, keep it professional! After a couple of hours, I’m finally getting somewhere. I’m feeling good, like I’m actually making progress. Then, bam! The fire alarm goes off. I’m thinking, “Great, just what I need.” Everyone’s rushing out, and I’m stuck with this mess. I grab my laptop and dash outside. We’re all standing on the pavement outside, and I’m trying to calm my nerves. I see the fire brigade roll up, and I’m like, “This is just my luck.” Turns out, it was a false alarm. Phew! But now I’m even more frazzled. Finally, we get back inside, and I’m ready to finish this audit. I’m in the zone, you know? Then, I find out they’ve been using the wrong accounting software. I mean, seriously? It’s like using a flip phone in 2023. I’m just shaking my head. By the time I wrap up, it’s dark outside. I step out onto the High Street, and it’s buzzing. The lights are twinkling, and there’s this vibe in the air. I can’t help but smile. I grab a quick bite at one of those food stalls. Best decision ever. I’m munching on some street food, and I see the canal nearby. It’s so peaceful. I take a moment to breathe. Newbury can be chaotic, but it’s got its moments. As I ride home, I’m thinking about the day. It was a rollercoaster. I was angry, happy, and surprised all at once. I love this city, even when it drives me nuts. So, yeah, that was my day. Just another wild ride in Newbury. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
