Man, what a day in Oldbury! Seriously, I’m still buzzing from it. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s shining, birds chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I hit up the local café on Birmingham Road. You know, the one with the dodgy Wi-Fi? Yeah, that one. I order my usual – a flat white and a bacon sarnie. But guess what? They’re outta bacon! Like, how do you run outta bacon? It’s breakfast, people! I’m fuming, but whatever, I grab a sausage roll instead. Not the same, but I’ll take it. After that, I stroll down to Oldbury’s High Street. It’s buzzing, loads of folks out and about. I see this old bloke trying to cross the road at the traffic lights on Church Street. He’s just standing there, looking confused. I’m like, “C’mon mate, it’s not rocket science!” Finally, he shuffles across, and I’m thinking, “Bless him, but hurry up!” Then, outta nowhere, it starts pouring! I mean, classic British weather, right? I’m soaked in seconds. I duck into a shop on the corner of Halesowen Street. It’s one of those quirky little places, full of random stuff. I spot a “Keep Calm and Carry On” mug. I laugh, thinking, “Yeah, right! Not today!” So, I’m browsing, and I bump into this mate I haven’t seen in ages. It’s Dave! We start chatting, and he tells me he’s opened a new pub on the corner of the High Street. I’m like, “No way! What’s it called?” He says, “The Oldbury Tap.” I’m already planning my first visit. But then, I get a text. It’s my editor. “Need those pics ASAP!” Ugh, typical. I rush outta the shop, dodging puddles like I’m in some weird obstacle course. I head to the Oldbury Park, thinking I can snap some nice shots of the greenery. But guess what? The park’s closed for maintenance! Seriously? I’m about to lose it. I decide to head over to the old church on the corner of St. John’s Street. It’s a beautiful building, but it’s surrounded by scaffolding. I’m like, “Great, just great.” I snap a few pics anyway, trying to make it look artsy. You know, the whole “I’m a serious photographer” vibe. Finally, I’m done with the church and head back to my car. I’m starving now, so I swing by this little takeaway on the way. I order a kebab, and the guy behind the counter is super chatty. He starts telling me about his cousin who’s a DJ. I’m like, “Cool, man, but I just want my food!” I grab the kebab and head to the car. I’m about to dig in when I see a bunch of kids playing footie in the street. They’re having a blast, and I can’t help but smile. It’s moments like this that make Oldbury feel like home. But then, outta nowhere, one of the kids kicks the ball right at my car! I’m like, “Oi! Watch it!” They just laugh and run off. I’m torn between being mad and finding it hilarious. Kids, man. Finally, I get home, exhausted but buzzing from the day. I plop down on the couch, kebab in hand, and think about all the craziness. Oldbury, you’ve done it again. You’ve made me laugh, you’ve made me mad, and you’ve made me appreciate the little things. What a day! Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
