The Austrian production facility of CCL Label in Dornbirn has implemented an advanced trim handling and recycling system from Matho Absaugtechnik to optimize waste management and sustainability in its production process
With eight slitting machines generating significant amounts of foil trim waste
CCL Label Dornbirn sought a more efficient and sustainable technology to enhance material separation for recycling while ensuring a cleaner production environment
its previous system no longer met evolving efficiency demands and sustainability goals
The company has been facing challenges of efficiently handling flexible packaging material foils (25–90 µm thickness)
de-dusting and trim handling as well as reducing waste and improving air quality in production
Matho provided a fully integrated trim handling and recycling technology tailored to CCL Label Dornbirn’s requirements
The system includes GR-160 Cutters for precise processing of foil trim
KU10000 Separators for effective material separation and high-efficiency filter systems and fans for air purification and return
The system efficiently collects and processes trim from the slitting machines
transporting it into a container compactor
Its key features include material separation with dual-stream recycling options for operators and air management thanks to the KU10000 separator and filtration system that removes dust and recirculates clean air
The new system has also optimized energy consumption thanks to electro-pneumatic flaps and frequency converters that adjust the fan speed in real-time
CCL Label Dornbirn has improved recycling through effective material separation
It operates cleaner production with filtered air that reduces dust
the company has also increased its energy efficiency and lowered maintenance
which minimizes wear and reduces downtime and costs

At the forthcoming Dornbirn Global Fiber Conference (GFC) in Austria from September 11-13
will outline the benefits of the new Trimclean system for textile recycling
Trimclean has already received the 2024 Techtextil and Texprocess Innovation Award in the Digitalisation + AI category at the exhibitions held in Frankfurt this April
A highly efficient system designed to extract trims like zippers
buttons and labels from fibre-sorted textile materials
Trimclean increases the purity of feedstock for textile-to-textile recyclers
Valvan provides low-cost automated sorting solutions specifically designed to handle recycled post-consumer textiles and can also help customers to scale up manual sorting and separation processes into semi-automatic or automatic solutions with Fibersort
Fibersort is crucial for efficiently processing large volumes of recycled post-consumer textiles and predicts the concentration of fibres in bales based on near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) scans. Fibersort can also sort textiles based on colour using an RGB camera. Once run through the Fibersort process
the textiles can then be fed into the Trimclean
Jean-Francois Gryspeert will speak at 15.10 on Thursday September 12th in conference room B at the Dornbirn connference

In the exhibition “FLASHBACK” Angela Glajcar’s two expansive installations “2009-072 Terforation” and “2019-043 Terforation” meet for the first time in the historic assembly hall of the Kunstraum Dornbirn
The titles lead directly to placing the works in Glajcar’s œuvre: they were created in 2009 and 2019
bear in the catalogue raisonné the numbers 072 and 043 respectively
very diverse and variable in form and dimensions
In her text for the Dornbirn exhibition catalogue
Elisabeth von Samsonow says of the series title: “’Terforation’ is an artificial term coined by the artist to denote a specific element of her installation works.” In the catalogue raisonné of 2013
Sasa Hanten explains that the term “is derived from “perforation” (Lat
the term established by Glajcar alludes to the Latin word for earth
with which the artist refers to “terra incognita”
The construction of the term is linked to the use of materials: Glajcar’s preferred material is paper
which is torn into shape in large sheets and added together in a staggered arrangement to form spatial structures
Accumulated with the help of mechanical devices
the paper hangs in the room and the high grammages of up to 450 g/m2 give it a spatial-plastic presence and physicality
Glajcar opens the material through the torn edges
The fibre layering and interior direction becomes visible and the composition comprehensible
The addition of binders or fillers in the industrial manufacturing process does not occlude the plant-based fibres
which create the organic appearance of the paper and give the works a natural form that the series title underlines

Virtual deep dive into the manmade fibres industry
Sustainability and the circular economy will be foremost on the agenda at the 60th Dornbirn Global Fiber Congress (GFC) Congress which begins next Wednesday (September 15th)
Keynote speakers on the first day of the three-day conference will include Lenzing’s COO Robert van de Kerkhoff
who will address the need for new business models for the fibres and textiles supply chain
“Many of today’s material solutions do not align with biological principles and the laws of physics,” he said at last year’s conference
“The laws that drive natural material cycles make it impossible to isolate the technical ones and our manmade material loops inevitably always leak
What would the fibre industry look like if it functioned as a natural ecosystem?”
He cited natural phenomena such as the spider’s web and honeycombs as providing the answers to exploiting advanced strength
and many other functional properties in circular new materials
“All of Lenzing’s fibres are based on CO2 and sunlight and renewable carbon is the only answer,” van de Kerkhoff said
“Off-setting makes no sense and we will only do it in the short term in areas where solutions are not yet available
but creative partnerships and government support are really important
“Covid-19 is significant in that it saw the growth of fibres drop in 2020
but do we want to just go back to the old normal
Everything up to now has been driven by volume growth but maybe we should not aim for this growth to continue and start looking at true value growth
who has enthused in the past about synthetic fibres and plastics more generally
“Plastic is a material that can be endlessly recycled and it really is a miraculous material,” he said
“It does not deteriorate and can be used a thousand times
we have turned a perfect solution for many good things into a problem
and this problem will eventually be fixed.”
Also scheduled to speak on the first day of the Dornbirn-GFC
and bringing different perspectives that will ensure lively debate
managing direcor of the World Wildlife Fund
and key representatives from the paper industry
which to date has proved much more adept at establishing circular systems than the manmade fibres industry
“Outstanding new ideas will create a live feeling during the conference
motivate networking and promote a unique learning experience,” said Friedrich Weninger
managing director of the Austrian Fibers Institute
“Top experts from industry and research will present the latest scientific results and ninety lecture slots have already been allocated
taking place in parallel in two lecture halls
breakout sessions and virtual meeting lounges will provide opportunities for networking and information exchange.”

Over 100 lectures will be held in three parallel sessions across the three-day conference
Cellulosic fibres can’t help but take centre stage at the forthcoming Dornbirn Global Fiber Congress (Dornbirn-GFC) from September 14-16 this year
given the many exciting new developments based on sustainable fibres that are underway – and especially those rapidly being developed in the Nordic region
Among notable keynote speakers at the conference will be Gittan Schiöld
which was founded in 2019 to drive the ongoing Fibre Bottle project first initiated by Danish innovation company EcoXpac in 2010
Via an innovation community and platform bringing together some of the world’s leading experts in materials
Paboco’s aim is to completely transform the bottling industry
Carlsberg has supplied some 8,000 samples of its Generation 2.0 Fibre Bottle to select festivals and flagship events across West Europe
in order to more widely gauge the reaction of consumers to the bio-based and fully recyclable innovation
A significant milestone is its plant-based PEF polymer lining
which has been developed by Amsterdam-headquartered Avantium
PEF is made entirely from natural raw materials
is compatible with plastic recycling systems and can degrade into nature should it end up outside national recycling systems
consists of sustainably-sourced wood fibre and is also bio-based
It has the added benefit of insulative properties which can help keep beer colder for longer compared to cans or glass bottles
Paboco’s Gittan Schiöld will also take part in a panel discussion with other keynote speakers including Uday Gill
Yogi Dandapure of Lululemon and Lenzing’s COO Robert van de Kerkhoff
who has previously emphasised the need for new business models for the fibres and textiles supply chain
Lenzing is one of the main sponsors of the conference and is extremely active in driving a sustainable agenda for the fibres industry
the cellulosics fibre leader has been working with Swedish pulp producer Södra on the development of a process for producing pulp from post-consumer waste
with the goal of converting 25,000 tons of textile waste per year by 2025
The jointly-developed OnceMore pulp will subsequently be used as a raw material for the production of Lenzing’s Tencel Refibra branded speciality fibres
Kelheim Fibres is another conference sponsor and is collaborating with Renewcell
on a project aimed at the commercial scale production of superior quality cellulosic fibres from Circulose
Circulose is produced from discarded cotton textiles such as worn-out denims through a process akin to recycling paper
relying on a heavily-patented pulp production process
The collaboration paves the way towards a fully European closed loop in which textile waste is collected
Renewcell’s chief technology officer will provide an update on progress in Dornbirn
Finland’s Infinited Fiber Company has also developed a process for turning cotton-rich waste textiles into high-quality
and at the Dornbirn conference CEO and founder Petri Alava will explain how it works with any cellulose-rich raw material
but also used cardboard – which is increasing in volume as a result of the rise in internet shopping – rice or wheat straw
turning them into cellulose carbamate fibers with the look and feel of cotton
“Infinna can be used with a variety of spinning technology and consumers can’t tell if the resulting fabrics are virgin or regenerated,” said Alava
“It’s also a very versatile fibre.”

1st Dornbirn-GFC congress for the Asian market
Sustainable
negative CO2 footprints – the need for more sustainable ways of living has never been more urgent
it is logical that recycling solutions are becoming increasingly important within the textile industry
This was raised at the recent first virtual Global Fiber Congress in Dornbirn
Austria with a session that focused specifically on the topic
Head of Product Management at Oerlikon Barmag
spoke about solutions currently on the market
Oerlikon Manmade Fibers offers the entire mechanical recycling chain
all the way through to the textured package
the company utilizes the VacuFil solution supplied by its subsidiary Barmag Brückner Engineering (BBE)
in addition to mastering bottle-to-bottle and bottle-to-textile processes
is also able to process textile waste into chips
This permits the running of textile production operations very much in line with the zero-waste philosophy
The reliable removal of contaminants is vital for a stable and efficient spinning process and outstanding yarn quality
stable operating conditions with minimal fluctuations are essential
is the differing qualities of the bottle flakes fed into the system
as the extrusion process is barely able to balance these fluctuations
the VacuFil concept counters with blending silos
which reduce the differences in the viscosity of the polymers considerably
The VacuFil concept is installed upstream to an Oerlikon Barmag POY system
which transforms the recycled melt into filament yarn of the accustomed high quality
Oerlikon Barmag offers its state-of-the-art automatic eAFK-series systems
including the latest generation of the eAFK Evo
which was unveiled at ITMA in Barcelona last year
Yarn manufacturers wishing to continue texturing manually can use the eFK series
producers of smaller batches now also have a compact system with an integrated recycled materials preparation unit at their disposal
The system offers a special extrusion system for bottle flake materials
the very latest metering and mixing technology for spin-dying and expanded 2-stage melt filtration
The four spinning positions are each equipped with an Oerlikon Barmag 10-end WINGS POY winder
While mechanical recycling has already been extensively developed
chemical recycling for mixed fabrics is still presenting the textile industry with huge challenges
Oerlikon Manmade Fibers segment is currently working on solutions and concepts for transforming these fabrics into new textiles

The 50th Dornbirn Man-Made Fibers Congress
When the congress was first launched in the early 1960s
synthetic fibres represented just 5% of total fibre production
but today they account for over half and this share is set to rise even further in the coming years

the Veilchen won 5-0 against SPG FC Lustenau/FC Dornbirn
After a goalless first half despite numerous chances
Bundesliga debutant Lena Nindl and Alisa Ziletkina put the game beyond doubt in the second half
In the penultimate round of the Admiral Women's Bundesliga
the Violet women travelled west to last year's promoted side Lustenau/Dornbirn
Compared to last week's 1-0 home win against FC Bergheim
coach Stefan Kenesei was able to call on captain Verena Volkmer again
who returned to the starting eleven with a special mask after breaking her nasal bone
made her first appearance in the Bundesliga squad
Volkmer had the first chance after just a few minutes
but her shot from a turn missed the target (4')
it was again the German who got to the ball
While the hosts hardly got into the game due to the strong performance of the Violets
Stefanie Schneeberger & Co kept the pressure on
And were able to celebrate for the first time in the 26th minute - albeit only briefly
After a lovely counter-attack via Lena Triendl
Yvonne Weilharter dinked the ball into the goal
but the goal was disallowed by the referee
It was a similar story in the 33rd minute: Austria scored again
Florentina Satra had the lead at her feet after a Volkmer cross
The second half began as the first ended: with a motivated and clearly superior Austria
the long-deserved - regular - opening goal was scored: Lena Triendl converted a Stangl pass to make it 1-0 (47')
the spell was broken and the Violets went one better
but the second ball was skilfully tucked into the goal by Katharina Schiechtl to make it 2-0 (55')
Lustenau/Dornbirn was one player less when keeper Fanny Söderström felled the onrushing Triendl and was sent off by referee Christian Stöger
Volkmer converted the resulting free-kick to make it 3-0 (68') and
also retook the lead in the goalscoring charts
Kenesei made his first substitution shortly before the start of the final quarter of an hour
with Anna Schorn and Alisa Ziletkina coming on for Schneeberger and Louise Schöffel (73‘) and shortly afterwards Nindl replaced Triendl
And the Bundesliga debutant was in a real hurry
scoring just seconds later with her second touch of the ball to make it 4-0 (76')
she placed the ball beautifully into the corner of the net
Alisa Ziletkina capped off the scoring with a header after a corner from Alexandra Wölkart (84')
Austria left no stone unturned in Vorarlberg against the in-form side
and took three well-deserved points back to Vienna-Favoriten

At next week’s Dornbirn Global Fiber Conference (Dornbirn-GFC) taking place in the Austrian town from September 14-16
a leading global producer of calcium carbonate
will launch their partnership via a dedicated seminar
The two companies will work together at IFG’s Fibres Research Centre in Linz
characteristics and applications which will incorporate Omyafiber
a specially developed calcium carbonate for fibre and nonwoven applications
The collaboration has commenced with successful trials of the incorporation of Omyafiber masterbatches into polypropylene and PLA staple fibres
and further polymer types are under consideration to be tested on the pilot line
Calcium carbonate is a sustainable and renewable raw material addressing some of the environmental pressures on the fibres industry
Its carbon footprint is approximately 300kg CO2 per ton of calcium carbonate and it can be used in recycled materials and is also recyclable itself
When Omyafiber is combined with staple fibres
the research and development teams have already discovered improved haptics
It can replace the use of titanium dioxide which has a significantly higher carbon footprint
Due to the high thermal conductivity properties of Omyafiber in the polymer matrix
it allows for products to be created that have lower sealing/bonding temperatures and it is also approved for use in applications that will come into contact with food
Omyafiber does not cause skin sensitivity and is Oeko-Tex approved for use in apparel
“Omya is a well known name in the industry and we are very happy about our fruitful cooperation,” said Simon Riepler
“The quality of the calcium carbonate is excellent and we are looking forward to bringing this quality into fibres and providing a sustainable product for our customers.”
“This valuable cooperation with IFG that will significantly accelerate the market introduction of our Omyafiber solution to the staple fibre market,” added Marco Viel

Florida – It takes time to build something great
Honduras Captain Barbara Murillo crowned herself with her team
getting promoted to play in the OFB Frauen-Bundesliga next season
The 29-year-old defender arrived earlier this year to Austria after proving her skills in many different settings
Mexico and Honduras were witnesses to what she had to offer to the game before she made the big jump to Europe
The Honduran Women’s National Team captain went straight to work as soon as she landed in Austria
They reinforced their squad with many names
they showed they wanted it more than any other team in the league
Murillo figured in a great part of this result
showing why she was a key signing this year
Murillo was a force whenever she had the chance
improving her skills and chances to mature her game
No doubt she will look to bring this performance into the first division of Austria
Honduras did not qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup that will take place in Australia/New Zealand
but La Bicolor will press onward in an effort to keep improving their team
as they know they have a great generation of players that can take a step forward in Concacaf
Murillo and all her club teammates will be ready to rest and celebrate their promotion
and son will be hoping to keep writing history in women’s football in Austria

In 2014, Marte Marte Architects convinced the competition jury with its outstanding design, which is characterized by power and restraint. The mighty gesture of the enormous emblematic structure – four exhibition halls are combined into one gigantic, monolithic building measuring 170 m long, nearly 70 m wide, and 16.5 m high – provides the existing conglomerate with an organizing principle and injects it with new energy.
© Faruk PinjoThe backbone of the building is the interior circulation axis – room-high glazed openings guide visitors through the series of exhibition halls – red, black, red, black. As eye-catching as the elliptical, hyperbolic incisions in the two longitudinal sides of the buildings are, the color scheme of the giant is just as powerful and vivid – pure, rich colors without shading like those used in coats of arms.
© Faruk PinjoWhat also distinguishes Marte Marte’s approach from the other competitors’ designs was the equal treatment of visitors, exhibitors, and vendors. Of the two carmine courtyards cut into the west facade of the building, one serves as the entrance for visitors and the other for the delivery of goods. Thus, the building doesn’t differentiate between front and back but is presentable and functional on all sides.
Marte Marte has once again thought outside the box and created a building of emblematic power
functional setting for an agora on the outskirts of the city
First Floor PlanThe energy performance is top notch; the controlled ventilation
the compactness of the structure and the quality of the materials used guarantee optimal values
the conscious direction of light and attention
the colour concept and the standard of construction combine to form a consistent spatial whole
which at least harmonises and gives a little structure to the world of severely disabled children and adolescents while at the same time inspiring them
For the Closing Ceremony at the 2007 World Gymnaestrada in Dornbirn
the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) decided to invite each of the five Continental Unions to prepare a large group outdoor presentation as part of the program
For the Closing Ceremony at the 2007 World Gymnaestrada in Dornbirn
For the Pan American Gymnastics Union (PAGU) this was an exciting opportunity as several of the expected participating countries had never attended a previous World Gymaestrada and most had never prepare a large group outdoor performance
The work began in 2004 after the conclusion of the 2003 World Gymnaestrada in Lisbon
President PAGU/GG Committee arranged for a meeting of representatives in Mexico City to plan for this work
Paula Lord (USA) was selected as the principal choreographer and project manager
The theme for the 7-minute presentation was identified – Rhythms of Life / Ritmos de la Vida
choreography and hundreds of email exchanges
Countries were assigned particular performance responsibilities and other tasks such as costume design
The final nine countries participating included Brazil (BRA)
and the United States (USA) – with 640 participants
the following gymnastics clubs/groups participated in this international effort: Biron’s Gymnastics
“I take to thank all countries and individuals for their participation
I congratulate them for their great effort and the work shown in the recently completed World Gymnaestrada in Austria
I was surprised and encouraged by the growth surprised and development shown by the PAGU countries of the UPAG that participated in the Gymnaestrada
I recognize that the 4 years of work that close today has been the best pretext to forge strong friendships with all
and by which I feel that the work well has been worth while.” Alcalá continued
“I thank Paula Lord for her work and coordination of these groups and to all the leaders for their excellent work and disposition as well as to their gymnasts.”
For the USA Gymnastics participants in the Closing Ceremony
this was a wonderful way to end the 2007 World Gymnaestrada
and perform with participants from nine countries truly represented the theme of the Gymnaestrada
