the sixth-seeded Pistons were garnering praise as the new “Bad Boys” era of the Detroit Basketball franchise The Pistons put up a good fight—one that key members of the Knicks congratulated them optioned Hart and recalled Bergert 10:25am: Per AJ Cassavell of MLB.com the club will indeed go with a four-man rotation for a while Bergert is expected to be recalled as the corresponding move He will be making his major league debut as soon as he gets into a game Since he’s been acting as a starter in Triple-A he will presumably fill a long relief role with the big league club 10:10am: The Padres have optioned left-hander Kyle Hart to Triple-A El Paso, according to the club’s transactions tracker at MLB.com No corresponding move is listed but they will presumably bring up another pitcher before tonight’s game The club took a flier on Hart this winter, signing him to a one-year deal with a $1.5MM guarantee That was a bet on his performance in Korea last year His previous track record in affiliated ball wasn’t great but he had good results with the KBO’s NC Dinos in 2024 He logged 157 innings over 26 starts with a 2.69 earned run average It’s never a guarantee that a pitcher can transfer those kinds of results to North American ball but the Friars had rotation needs and a tight budget Darvish landed on the IL to start the season due to elbow inflammation The competition was also thinned out when Waldron suffered an oblique strain That led to Vásquez and Hart both securing rotation spots to open the season His 6.7% walk rate is quite good but his 17.8% strikeout rate and 33.3% ground ball rate are both subpar marks Vásquez has been better at preventing runs but with less impressive stuff under the hood He has a 3.97 ERA through his five starts but with an 8.9% strikeout rate and 16.8% walk rate perhaps suggesting he’s walking a tightrope His 6.94 SIERA certainly doesn’t expect him to maintain his current run prevention which expects such things to normalize over time these are small samples and Hart hasn’t been overpowering The Padres have decided to send him to El Paso Optional assignments for pitchers come with a 15-day minimum so Hart won’t be able to come back until the club’s series against the Rockies May 9th to 11th It’s possible the decision was motivated by the schedule The Padres were off yesterday and then have further off-days on Monday and Thursday next week Perhaps they will go with a four-man rotation for a while They will play six straight from May 2nd to 7th They could use a spot start or a bullpen game to get through that stretch and then bring Hart back up It’s also possible that the club could explore Hart as a reliever Though his results have been uneven so far lefties are slashing just .100/.100/.100  against him in the early going a pitch usually used to neutralize hitters with the platoon advantage Perhaps transitioning to a lefty specialist role would be a good move though these are tiny samples and this is entirely speculative He has a 5.16 ERA at El Paso but with a 23.5% strikeout rate and 9.8% walk rate More information on the club’s plans will likely be forthcoming soon Time will tell if this is just a brief reset for Hart during a light portion of the club’s schedule or a more meaningful pivot they will likely operate with a longer bullpen with two off-days in the next week San Diego Padres Looks like the kbo transition isnt working out this time Padres just have enough injuries to need such options His price tag is correct and he may well improve Too early to be pushing panic buttons (if ever) Id go kolek and Matsui as piggyback for the 5th spot You’d need to get 5 or 6 of those innings out of Kolek since Matsui has only gone 2 innings once and hasn’t gone beyond that at all this season 3 innings is once through the order and if you start the righty in kolek matsui benefits from the opposing team going with lety hitters So asking a lefty in matsui to go 3 inning with the advantage isn’t all that much to ask for Except that Matsui has only pitched 2 innings in a game once in his career You don’t ask for a reliever like him to get 9 outs while hoping he allows zero baserunners If you are piggybacking anyone in the Padres bullpen for innings like that it would probably be Alek Jacob however he has been tried as a starter in NPB on multiple occasions though he was too inefficient as a starter since he walked too many batters though he did seem to keep the strikeouts Hart is likely the best of three (Vasquez and Kolek) – Padres have to be happy with Pivetta thus far Hart could plug in at the five and the Padres could add a starter at the trade deadline but a good April from Pivetta has relieved the pressure a little Darvish won’t be back until end of May or sometime in June Team has been saying that for a few weeks now Vasquez is outperforming his peripherals by far and we’ll have to see how Kolek does as a starter but both have shown better pitches than Hart has thus far I like Hart’s story and personality; I hope he can unlock something better in AAA I havent watched any tape on any of the three but as far as I see it and it should translate over in some small way this doesn’t have to be mean spirited but you know AJ and Rueben get paid a lot of money to evaluate talent and well are you qualified to determine who has “mlb stuff” not trying to bash here but maybe let the professionals make those calls about “having the stuff” Has he underperformed – both good and bad so far Does he need to make some adjustments – maybe so There have been a lot worse guys run out to mound in the last 50 years dude is legit an inspiration of a baseball player with the overseas domination after washing out of MLB truly wish him the best because he seems like a very humble and hard-working dude even to make it back on the radar of an MLB team is an immense achievement @Longtimecoming – Hart was a buy-low option This has worked in the past to varying degrees but the guys just had higher floors to work with (e.g. He is totally serviceable as a depth option in AAA and even arguably a fifth starter but it’s hard to have to run him and Vasquez every 2/5 times thru the rotation Maybe they can coax out something better from him in AAA I’m rooting for the dude’s success more of guys like him who don’t have overall great stuff who goes overseas than come back looking to get to majors when Will be interesting to see who fills out the #5 SP role in early May I checked the schedule and was seeing the possibility/ hoping they would at least skip his next start due to the 2 off days I guess making that decision would then follow that might as will fill a roster spot with a reliever AND allow Hart to go down and keep his routine / work on things And hope we see some positive innings from Bergert for his cup of coffee Get Reynolds and Hoeing back next week maybe Then Yu back in 30 days for what should be a pretty good 5 If the bats are back over the weekend / next week At least Bergert isn’t someone that opposing teams will have an extensive book on I can’t speak for other clubs but I believe SD has a history of not doing well on 1st time guys for sure ain’t you “Debbie Downer” today pointing out that when our lineup has faced opposing pitchers on their first start in MLs So maybe there’s something to what you’re saying I was trying to pin a “positive” dart on an ol’ gray mule saying that maybe Bergert will have a bit of an advantage Go Padres (even the AAA ones and the injured guys rooting from the sidelines) @Longtime I know they brought up Bergert now while they’re on a 4-man rotation But I’m wondering how things shake out once they move into the long road trip and will need either a 5th SP or a bullpen game (involving Bergert perhaps) I’d be surprised if Bergert plays into their rotation plans ROS and I suspect Hart was sent down purely for staff management purposes (i.e. they’re not demoting Hart solely due to performance (he’s had some positive moments) from say 5/5 – 5/31 (maybe when Yu could be ready) they have to either bring Hart back (likely) or Kolek another option is a couple of BP games to fill that gap Reynolds should be back in a few days (rehab on 4/22 with El Paso) either a BP to plan to bring Hart back when eligible (assuming no injury replacement factors in) or Kolek gets a spot start This smells like SD just wanted to skip 2 starts due to schedule and they wanted to: (1) keep Hart on schedule to start every 5 days; and (2) grab an extra BP arm for a week could be an opener to be sent down the next day for a returning Reynolds situation Then Hart is eligible to return for next start and Bergert or Gillespie goes down I don’t think this is all about looking for an option to replace Hart but keep him working on schedule like you suggested as well good to hear positive update on him thanks Kyle looked ok in his start against Detroit on Wednesday But the preasure is on against the Tigers when you know you have to be near perfect to beat Detroit The way Reese pitched you couldn’t give up a run if you wanted to win It’s really hard to beat a team like Detroit with their kind of pitching Cause he’s a warm body and they’ve run out of warm bodies on the 40 man roster At least his name isn’t “Carpenter” There are players in AAA that are better and can at least can play a position Also why isn’t Preller not looking to better a lousy bench I don’t want to be “The Preller Defender” but who says that Preller’s not looking to improve the bench Some of the available options (Maybe Peralta or Solano) wanted a lot more than $1M or $2M a year and those “tiny” numbers add up for a team right at the edge of the SECOND level of the luxury tax May not be the first guy to go but won’t survive all 5 Machado and the starting lineup for El Paso I think once people start coming back he will be less needed What’s telling is that even with the 5-9 AAA players in the lineup each day Gurriel isn’t getting any playing time The Pads can afford to take some hits and still be deep in the race and have the same hope for the mid-May injured return boost I’d think that Oscar Gonzalez could step into his shoes immediately but the Pads have Wade and McCoy on the roster soon to be joined and/or replaced by Merrill Sheets hits LHP about as well as RHP and can handle the 1B/DH behind Arraez Gonzalez and Iglesias give them R-bat utility pieces whereas Gurriel can’t play anywhere but 1B at this point They need to limp through this brief homestand at 3-2 Padres still have a strong triple-three rotation without Davrish We (Padres fans) are just used to seeing guys like Nick Martinez or Michael Wacha at the back end of the rotation Cease still isn’t hitting on all cylinders and right now Pivetta’s the obvious #1 TOR starter for the Pads it’s a list of prospects and cripples One more injury to their current top 3 starters none of the 4-5 category starters look all that good or Bergert (AAA) “rotation depth” is pretty far fetched (Think how boring it must be to be a Dodger’s fan Predictability just kills interesting Baseball not sure how much we are “used to seeing” the likes of Martinez Lugo and Wacha at the back end of a rotation I could quote you many years where one of those guys being the #2 guy would have been a blessing The rotation tread has been pretty good for the past couple of years Could you have imagined even ONE of the studs on this team we’ve had some real “AAA” level Padres teams in the past Hart’s Korea magic isn’t translating made the wrong choice in the poll earlier this year mlbtraderumors.com/2025/03/poll-padres-rotation-ba… He has had some quality innings even in a bad start and a couple of good / good enough starts well if you don’t score any runs it really doesn’t matter if your SP craps the bed even a good / bad alternating pattern isn’t the end of the world to get you thru the season Every now and then their guy will be bad too and it’s a 10-9 game and you win anyway with a strong BP Maybe he’ll have the mental space to work out a few issues at AAA while not under the bright lights of the MLB That’s REAL inside info genius for ya “but the Friars had rotation needs and a tight budget so it was an understandable bet to make.” You filled out your roster with leftover FA scraps Padres did have rotation needs and a tight budget That was obvious to everyone except the emotionally insecure Padre fan they were so full of financially strapped woe when they signed Hart went and handed $55M to Pivetta the next day Pivetta and Vasquez isn’t likely to feel the urge to go lavish on another SP contract Some smaller contracts for depth pieces like Hart are the norm Every high payroll team tries to be smart with managing money across years in the name of trying to avoid higher levels of CBT tiers A lot of $ off the books next year so pushing backloading new contracts was just CBT smart What needs to be given rest is the narrative that the Pads are financially in trouble compared to other top 10 payroll teams It permeates every Padres article by mlbtr writers or articles they link Kyle Hart pitched well against the 1st place Tigers He may just need to work on a few things @ AAA Wouldn’t mind seeing Alcantara in the #5 rotation slot C Ethan Salas and SS Leo Devries( hit for cycle yesterday including 2 home runs on farm) there’s an automatic process that scans the article for name tags to link to This Kyle Hart in like every movie and commercial it would seem Log in Register MLB Trade Rumors is not affiliated with Major League Baseball Register Leon Draisaitl, Connor Hellebuyck and Nikita Kucherov were named finalists for the Hart Trophy on Thursday The award is given annually to the NHL player voted most valuable to his team by the Professional Hockey Writers Association The winner will be announced at a later date Draisaitl led the NHL in goals (52) and tied for third in points (106) despite being limited to 71 games for the Edmonton Oilers and was a career-best plus-32 It was the fourth time in seven seasons he scored at least 50 goals and fourth straight season he had at least 100 points The 29-year-old center ranked second in points per game (1.49) and even strength goals (36) fourth in even strength points (73) and was first in overtime goals (six) and tied for first in game-winning goals (11) "There are a tremendous amount of players that have been a part of that and have won it in the past I'm obviously proud to be in that conversation with some pretty amazing players He had a 14-game point streak and an 18-game point streak this season and only had 11 games without a point really," Oilers defenseman Brett Kulak said "And he's a difference-maker every night that we've had him in the lineup and you're just seeing that game after game He always steps it up even to another level in the playoffs." Hellebuyck went 47-12-3 in 63 games, which was tied for the NHL lead with Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Lightning goals-against average (2.00) and shutouts (eight) and was second in save percentage (.925) among goalies to play at least 25 games Jennings Trophy for helping the Jets allow an NHL-low 191 goals (including shootout-deciding goals) during the regular season Winnipeg averaged 2.32 goals against per game and won the Presidents' Trophy as the team with the best-regular season record so to see him getting recognized there is an amazing accomplishment," Jets defenseman Dlyan DeMelo said it wants him to be a little hungrier and see what he can achieve." Hellebuyck, who is a first-time Hart finalist, was named a finalist for the Vezina Trophy as the best goalie in the NHL on Monday. contributed to this report SAN DIEGO -- With a spate of upcoming off-days, the Padres reshuffled their pitching staff ahead of their 1-0 loss on Friday night in the series opener against the Rays at Petco Park , the team’s No. 5 starter, was optioned to Triple-A El Paso. , the organization’s No. 21 overall prospect received his first callup to the big leagues What’s next for the rotation? The Padres had an off-day Thursday and off-days next week on Monday and Thursday (surrounding their two-game series against the Giants) they’ll have an off-day on May 8 during their upcoming three-city road trip 5 starter only once -- and not until May 6 against the Yankees in New York we wanted to make sure we were taking advantage of our off-days to rest our starters,” said Padres manager Mike Shildt the Padres were looking at the possibility of some starters receiving six or seven days between starts they decided that large of a gap was counterproductive they’ve set up what amounts to a four-man rotation over the next 3 1/2 weeks (albeit with a vacancy on or around May 6) One added benefit: With the Giants coming to town for a highly anticipated two-game series between two of baseball’s hottest teams the Padres can line up their two best starters this season -- Nick Pivetta on Tuesday and Michael King on Wednesday What to expect from Bergert? The team’s sixth-round pick in the 2021 Draft Bergert impressed during big league camp this spring albeit in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League “It was kind of surreal,” Bergert said of his big league callup Shildt later revealed that Bergert would mostly be relied upon for long relief -- which gives the Padres some flexibility in their bullpen Logan Gillaspie had previously been the only other reliever capable of covering length Shildt admitted he wasn’t able to use Gillaspie as often as he otherwise might have the Padres have a deeper group of options in a ‘pen which has posted a 1.76 ERA the lowest in the Majors this year entering play on Friday What’s next for Hart?Shildt wanted to make it abundantly clear that Hart’s demotion wasn’t performance-related “You’re not sitting down having this conversation like “It was more of a conversation: ‘We’re excited about where you’re going … The reality is we have a unique schedule where it just makes sense to do what we’re doing.’” The start to Hart’s Padres tenure has been up and down though most of that damage came during one rough outing at Wrigley Field Hart pitched Wednesday’s series finale in Detroit He’ll continue making regular starts with El Paso But he’s not eligible to be recalled by the big league club until May 9 ruling him out for that lone early-May vacancy What about Darvish?Left unsaid in the Padres’ rotation chatter is that the club is hopeful to have a key piece rejoin the staff at some point in May who has been out since mid-March because of right elbow inflammation mixing in a heavier dose of breaking pitches as he hadn’t fully built up in Spring Training when he was sidelined but he could progress to facing hitters at some point in the near future Darvish won’t be an option for the early-May vacancies But there’s a cost to the current volume of off-days The Padres’ schedule picks up in intensity in late May and early June Considering the challenges that schedule will present Darvish’s return around that time would be a major boost "She had her publicist reach out to my label's publicist to give me her number Totally normal courtship," the singer-bassist reveals in EW's exclusive the player who had been unexpectedly lighting up the 76ers during the series and who was left wide open: Josh Hart Hart hesitated slightly, looking to his right as he considered passing to Donte DiVincenzo (a 40% 3-point shooter that season) on the right wing and Hart still seeing no defender in front of him he took matters into his own hands the same way he'd been forced to for much of the series after Philadelphia made the decision to play off the 34% career 3-point shooter The result was an incredibly clutch 3 for Hart -- his 17th of the series -- that essentially sealed the Knicks' hard-fought first-round win "He's put a lot of time into his shooting," Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said after the game "I always have the belief that when it's a big shot [he's taking] that it's going in." and that same level of belief in Hart's less-than-steady jumper could be just as important throughout this current playoff run for New York You'd be hard pressed to find a player who hustles harder than Hart who led the NBA in minutes per game under the demanding Thibodeau and has been the Knicks' official jack-of-all-trades routinely sacrificing his body from one play to the next while also filling out the stat sheet unlike any player on the roster The 6-foot-4 Hart was 13th in the league in rebounding the shortest player among that top group by 5 inches But, much like last postseason, it's going to require more than effort plays from Hart to ensure that the Knicks advance. Specifically, how the 30-year-old guard fares when the Detroit Pistons dare him to shoot could be New York's biggest playoff bellwether the hard-nosed Hart can bring the on-court action into the stands Earlier this month, just over two minutes into the third period as the Knicks were up double digits at home on the lifeless Phoenix Suns, Royce O'Neale rocketed an errant pass that Hart felt he could swipe He got a hand on the pass to knock it toward the sideline but as Hart sprinted to chase down the loose ball he realized he'd immediately run out of real estate he somewhat haphazardly leaped onto the digital billboard sitting courtside before ambling five rows into the Madison Square Garden stands so he could land somewhere safe!" play-by-play man Mike Breen said during the broadcast as a number of Knicks fans in the crowd high-fived Hart on his way back down to the floor Hart ranked seventh in the league in steals and 10th in deflections this season often diving onto the floor without a second thought -- a massive reason he has recovered an NBA-high 88 loose balls this season And few sights are as common as Hart in the open court logging one of the NBA's 10 best field goal rates in transition scenarios "You get regular rebounds; I get rebounds that break teams!" Hart once bragged to teammate Mitchell Robinson during a playoff game the Spurs were preparing to race down the court to get up a game-tying shot and in doing so the Knicks ran the clock out to seal the victory Arguably just as impressive as Hart's rebounding ability is his secondary playmaking Brunson, who led the NBA in both ball possession at 8.6 minutes per game and clutch baskets with 52, is often blitzed by opposing defenses. That's where someone like Hart -- whose connective game on offense has similarities to Draymond Green's -- comes into play He's a valuable player as a short roller who normally dishes it to the corner or the dunker spot he has been highly efficient going to the basket shooting a career-best 61.8% from two.) Last month he broke Clyde Frazier's 56-year-old franchise record for triple-doubles in a season In a way, it's been a dizzying two-year stretch of do-it-all basketball for Hart. He has logged 15 triple-doubles in the past two seasons after having none during his first six years in the NBA. The only player to post more triple-doubles than Hart's 15 after having zero through his first six campaigns is Celtics legend Bill Russell "It's funny -- in college we told Josh not to pass the ball because he wasn't good at passing," Brunson said earlier in the season of his former Villanova teammate And the upstart Pistons are almost certain to repeatedly test the wing's biggest weakness throughout the first round THE ROUTINE GENERALLY begins whenever there's a true break in the basketball schedule There was the week off during last season's All-Star break the week off before last year's postseason this past week before the Knicks faced the Pistons Hart wanted to work out the mechanical kinks in what has been an inconsistent 3-point shot It means hundreds of extra attempts each day on his own time "Feels solid," Hart said of his jumper earlier this week so getting up shots before practice at his house And I'm shooting at the facility again at night or at his house again at night So probably two or three workouts and shooting just to make sure I'm comfortable and confident with [the tweaks]." Hart scored 13 points -- including one 3-pointer -- along with 7 rebounds and 6 assists in the Knicks' Game 1 victory over the Pistons. Sergio Estrada-Imagn ImagesThere's ample reason for the additional work opposing defenses opted against guarding Hart beyond the 3-point line teams gave Hart over 8 feet of space when he launched catch-and-shoot 3-pointers Of the 157 players who took at least 175 catch-and-shoot triples only 11 players were given more room to shoot than Hart who rank first and second in the league in corner-3 attempts The limited threat largely explains why coach Nick Nurse and the Sixers were initially comfortable taking their chances with leaving him open in last season's first round: Ignoring him at the perimeter made it easier for Philly to trap Brunson with more defenders as the All-NBA guard shot a combined 16-for-55 (29%) from the field through the first two games of that series Hart's shooting ended up being a huge boost for the Knicks in that first round Philadelphia's strategy all but forced Hart to take far more 3s -- 47% of his shots were triples in that series up from 33% in the regular season -- but he connected on 43% of those looks much better than the 31% he shot from deep all season From the play-in tournament to the NBA Finals ESPN has you covered throughout the playoffs acknowledged that playoff defenses are often more aggressive about ignoring poor shooters but he suggested that boiling down Hart's impact to his shooting alone would be foolish "At the end of the day he's a basketball player but he can shoot," Thibodeau said last week Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck and Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov were announced on Thursday as this year’s finalists for the Hart Trophy given to the NHL’s most valuable player as voted by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association Draisaitl ended the regular season with 52 goals and 106 points securing his first-ever Maurice “Rocket” Richard award for most goals in a season The next-highest goal-scorer on the Oilers was Zach Hyman Draisaitl’s 106 points were tied for third-best in the NHL with Boston Bruins winger David Pastrnak Draisaitl is seeking his second Hart Trophy win following the COVID-19-shortened 2019-20 season in which he scored 43 goals and 110 points Hellebuyck ended the regular season with a 47-12-3 record in 63 starts the most wins by any goaltender this season Hellebuyck also recorded the most shutouts (eight) and the lowest goals-against average (2.00) as well as the league’s second-best save percentage (.925) behind the Toronto Maple Leafs’ Anthony Stolarz (.926) Hellebuyck also is a Vezina Trophy finalist and is this year’s recipient of the William M for allowing the fewest goals among goalies who played at least 25 games Hellebuyck could become the fifth goalie in NHL history to twice win the Jennings and Vezina in the same season He also would be the first goaltender to win the Hart Trophy since the Montreal Canadiens’ Carey Price in 2015 Kucherov secured his third Art Ross Trophy after leading the league with 121 points in 78 games It was his third consecutive 100-point season Kucherov also tied for the league lead in assists (84) with Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon Kucherov became the fifth player in NHL history to record 100 assists in a season — just days after Connor McDavid became the fourth player to do it when he totaled 41 goals and 128 points in 82 games (Top photo of Leon Draisaitl: Leila Devlin / Getty Images) This story is one in a series spotlighting nine experience that lit the spark I was completely enthralled by watching the amazing things that happened as she experienced the world It was fascinating to imagine seeing the world through her eyes.  slow-to-warm child who tended to sit back and observe rather than dive into new experiences I didn’t fully enjoy the wonder of childhood when I was young—but through my daughter Watching her grow allowed me to truly savor and appreciate those early experiences in a way I hadn’t before.  my PhD is technically in psychology rather than child development and when I joined the child development courthouse near Chico Junior High focused on breaking down silos between agencies and creating services that truly centered children and families with the goal of improving access to resources.  Although the vision hasn’t fully materialized many of the ideas we developed still influence community work today I built strong relationships with people dedicated to making a difference and those connections have been invaluable both professionally and personally.  We leaned on each other during the Camp Fire—when my parents those connections aren’t just important—they’re essential.  If you could assign everyone in the world one book to read about emotional well-being I would recommend Born for Love: Why Empathy is Essential—and Endangered by Bruce Perry and Maia Szalavitz While it’s not strictly a “well-being” book Perry and Szalavitz are perhaps best known for The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog which is an amazing book that I assign in my Risk and Resilience course (CHLD 321—everyone should take it!) using compelling case studies to explain brain development and behavior but it places a deeper emphasis on the essential role of relationships The book speaks to a broader audience about the importance of empathy especially as we move further into a technological world that can leave people feeling more disconnected As rates of mental health challenges continue to rise Born for Love reminds us why understanding and connection are critical to emotional well-being Chico State Today is an official site of California State University especially after the defending champions grabbed wins in all four regular season meetings between the two teams the Celtics have a lot of respect for their opponent and they recognize how much of a challenge they can be in this second round series Celtics guard Jrue Holiday looks at his foil on the Knicks, Josh Hart, as someone who can change the series with his play. he doesn’t shoot the ball well enough or do whatever and he makes the game easier for everybody else based off his play,” Holiday told The Athletic insider James Edwards III “Guys who really take that to heart and can really play that type of game I feel like you can be in the league as long as you want to if you play that way.” Holiday can be an X-Factor for the Celtics If Holiday plays well on top of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown If Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns are hitting their shots you know that the Knicks are really good,” Holiday said via Edwards I guess they call us ‘Glue guys’ … he’s that heartbeat They kind of go as he goes because of all the things that he does for the team.” Hart has to play well for the Knicks in the series if they want a shot at dethroning the defending champions Make sure you bookmark Knicks on SI for the latest news, exclusive interviews, film breakdowns as and so much more! The Knicks punched their ticket to the second round to take on the Boston Celtics in a series starting tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m On Sunday, video surfaced of Knicks guard Josh Hart speaking with fellow New York guard Jalen Brunson about the Pistons' alleged "foul baiting," choosing to levy an accusation against Pistons guard Tim Hardaway Jr Josh Harts shoots a fadeaway over a Pistons defender.  Hart spoke on Hardaway Jr.'s controversial last second shot at Little Caesars Arena that fans thought should have resulted in a foul call against the Knicks.  "Honestly I think if he just shot the ball...Who knows what could have happened," Hart said during the podcast episode.  Hart was asked by Brunson if Hart was saying Hardaway Jr and the whole series Detroit was on JB (Bickerstaff) about like "Tim's gonna text me and have some choice words for you I can't wait for it," Brunson added.  by Nick Minock (7News) — When a longtime Loudoun County aquatics director was fired from the job she had for years and the kids she taught to swim and their parents are upset It’s my love,” Kristina Hart told 7News Reporter Nick Minock Hart was the Aquatics Director and Director of Swim Programs at the Ashburn Village Sports Pavilion for almost ten years “I built the program from the ground up,” said Hart the aquatics center grew to host a thousand visitors per week It’s where many families in Northern Virginia and the Ashburn Village bring their kids for swim lessons and recreation Jacquelyn Porter has been bringing her son and daughter there for years so having another trusted person that's been in our life one to two times a week for almost three years has been a huge impact on them,” said Porter Porter said her kids joined swim lessons directly with Hart two years ago “She [Porter’s daughter] was socially very shy there were some worries of developmental issues we just had another coach ask us how old he is because they want to try and put him on [the] swim team So they thought he was good enough at this point that they were wanting to try and get him on the team That's how far coach Kristina has taken my kids from no face in the water to trying to get him on a team way too early.” “It just is heartbreaking for the community,” Porter said of Hart’s firing “There’s hundreds of children directly affected by it.” Hart told 7News the trouble started last year when she arranged for five employees to get swim coach training in Florida She needed everyone’s full legal name to book the plane tickets another employee shared the flight itinerary in a group chat Hart said one of the staff complained because the plane tickets that were shared in the group had the person’s legal name somebody's legal name was just used in that group chat Hart said her boss wrote an apology and told Hart to send it Hart said that the employee’s performance was declining Hart said she went to her supervisor 29 times with issues about the employee’s performance ranging from issues with teaching swim lessons to supervising kids and the employee distracting the only lifeguard who was supposed to watch kids in the pool but this employee was protected,” said Hart and so they were using that status to keep themselves protected,” Hart answered Hart said her boss did not allow the employee to be on a performance improvement plan Hart sat down with the employee to encourage them on how they could improve their performance but we're parting ways with you,” said Hart ‘You told another employee that this employee is transgender.’ And I said That's why we're letting you go.” Hart then discovered her boss wanted her to train her replacement the sports pavilion sent an email to clients and staff announcing Hart was being let go “If I were a parent that saw this email come out that this person that had done so much for my children was just gone like thrown out like the trash,” said Hart “I would think they did something very terribly and something wrong with a child I need to tell everybody why I was terminated and why it was wrong.'” 7News asked the Ashburn Sports Pavilion and their human resources company and 7News requested an interview with the employee who complained about Kristina General Manager Gayle Terrio declined in an email “We remain committed to ensuring the strength and continuity of our Aquatics program and to supporting the community we serve.” she believes the Ashburn Village Homeowners Association should fire the people and the HR company responsible and we're here to support her,” said Porter The homeowner's association said the board was not informed of the reasons for the termination nor given an opportunity to weigh in on the decision Porter fears that now that Kristina is gone the swim program will suffer and potentially lose business so I've invested a lot of money over the years,” said Porter “I also pay for extra guest passes and pool passes to bring in family members to utilize the facilities and I don't want my children to feel that way It could affect their high school careers if they're not getting the proper swim team community and development Porter added that non-HOA members paid to get swim lessons from Kristina at the sports pavilion “That's how well regarded she's made our programs,” said Porter “People want to pay extra money to come into our HOA,” added Porter “The reason I was comfortable putting her [Porter's daughter] on [the] swim team was because coach Kristina was going to be there.” a town hall is scheduled for May 20 at 6 p.m at The New York doesn't have much to prove. Entering the season, the Celtics were the title favorites and, despite being the second seed, are still expected to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers and win the Eastern Conference.  the Knicks can play their brand of basketball although rabid fans in New York might not be thrilled to hear Hart say that he doesn't care as it's still title-or-bust for Spike Lee and the rest of the fanbase The Knicks have limited flexibility moving forward and are married to their current roster Check out the All Knicks home page for more news and has been writing for Athlon since 2023 just like every player to ever dribble a basketball Seeing his jersey messy and untucked on playgrounds even when some of sport’s most energized fans scream at him He’s cool being the guy who dove for the loose ball in the game’s final seconds only for it to be overshadowed by the guy who hit the game-winning shot “It changed this year,” Hart said while walking back to the New York Knicks’ team bus after Saturday’s practice the 30-year-old Hart has bounced from one team to another seemingly being the same player with the same morals He’s always been an able and willing passer He always rebounded as well as any 6-foot-4 player to ever grace an NBA court The role Hart plays now for the Knicks feels no different from how he carried himself with the Los Angeles Lakers New Orleans Pelicans and Portland Trail Blazers He had nine triple-doubles during the regular season passing Walt “Clyde” Frazier for most in Knicks history during a single season Hart’s 13.6 points per game came with a career-best 9.6 rebounds and a career-best 5.9 assists might have looked more intimidating during the regular season if it were allowed to play with an extra basketball Hart has been a master of controlled chaos He’s a low-maintenance offensive player who creates his own luck Hart’s postseason numbers are nearly identical to those of the regular season I feel like I’ve grown in my faith more,” Hart said “I’ve been trying to take on that servant mentality I want to make sure I can cater to these guys and make sure that they’re successful and put in the right positions to blossom.” “Servant” has been a word Hart has used ad nauseam all season He feels he has to be the connector offensively Whatever the team needs to pull it all together Look no further than Game 3 against Detroit as an example the Knicks lost to the Pistons while playing a slow it was Hart who acknowledged the team’s downfall and who pointed out what needed to change the Knicks played as fast as they had all season Towns scored 31 points while getting up eight 3-point attempts as the Knicks upped their tempo and put together as balanced an offensive performance as they had seen all season getting 11 rebounds and nine assists,” Hart said “I was happy to get those guys going and KAT going I’ve come to the realization of making sure (my teammates) are good.” when referencing his role on a team facing mega expectations Hart would routinely bring up the Boston Celtics’ Jrue Holiday as an example of what sacrificing looks like and how it can contribute to winning at the highest level once in Philadelphia and once in Milwaukee He spent the bulk of the first 14 of his 16-year NBA career averaging between 15 and 21 points per game all while being one of the league’s best perimeter defenders A season didn’t pass during Holiday’s prime when he wasn’t taking at least 13 shots per game a championship-level team not in need of Holiday the All-Star but Holiday the player whose will and smarts can fill in the gaps on a ridiculously talented roster and Holiday averaged just 10 shots per game with Holiday in the fold doing the dirty work and filling all the gaps the Celtics were able to get over the hump and back to the league’s mountaintop and he makes the game easier for everybody else based off his play,” Holiday told The Athletic Those qualities are why Hart’s teammates appreciate him and consider him such a big part of their success Comments like this are why it was so perplexing when Hart said it wasn’t until the summer that he became OK with never achieving traditional NBA stardom His actions never suggested he had those aspirations One would assume he came to that conclusion early in his career based on his approach to the game And his play on the court always revealed the winner of that internal battle It’s possible that the expectations of this season the addition of talent and fear that Hart might miss out on something special spurred this change in mindset It’s also possible that the person behind the basketball player grew and it was reflected in all aspects of life are more secure with yourself and not trying to do anything different you learn who you are as a player and person,” Hart said Hart is whatever the Knicks need him to be you know that the Knicks are really good,” Holiday said (Top photo of Josh Hart: Gregory Shamus / Getty Images) awarded “to the player adjudged to be Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck is a finalist for both awards this season after recording 47 wins Edmonton Oilers center Leon Draisaitl, the league's leading goal scorer, and Tampa Bay Lightning winger Nikita Kucherov who led the league in points for a second consecutive season The NHL already announced finalists for the Vezina Norris Trophy (defenseman) and Ted Lindsay Award (outstanding player in a vote by fellow players) finalists will be announced for the Masterton Trophy (perseverance) Jack Adams Award (coach) and Lady Byng Trophy (sportsmanship) The Hart Trophy is voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers Association Here's a look at the three finalists (listed alphabetically): He set a single-season NHL record with six overtime goals shared first place in game-winning goals (11) and multi-goal performances (10) and tied for second in power-play goals (16) Winnipeg JetsHellebuyck led the NHL with 47 victories 2 Andrei Vasilevskiy was the largest gap since 1990-91 Hellebuyck gave up two or fewer goals in 40 of 63 appearances He led the league (minimum 25 games played) in goals-against average (2.00) and shutouts (eight) was second in save percentage (.925) and starts (62) and ranked fourth in saves (1,539) and high-danger save percentage ( .845) He's the first goaltender finalist since Igor Shesterkin in 2021-22 and is looking to become the fourth netminder in the expansion era to win The play, which happened in the closing moments of Game 4 against the Detroit Pistons has sparked heated debate across NBA circles That moment saw Hart make significant contact with Hardaway Jr. during a potential game-tying shot attempt—with no whistle from the officials When questioned about the controversial sequence, Josh Hart offered a refreshingly candid assessment that managed to both acknowledge and dismiss the controversy but it’s only a foul if the ref blows the whistle,” Hart admitted with a smirk “He didn’t blow the whistle so nah I barely touched him It was not a foul because it wasn’t called.” Hart’s playful response highlighted the age-old basketball truth—it’s ultimately the officials who determine what constitutes a foul The Knicks defender didn’t stop there turning the tables on the Pistons by calling out what he perceived as hypocrisy in their approach to drawing fouls “Honestly I think if he just shot the ball if he just tried to shoot,” Hart explained The whole series Detroit was on JB about foul-baiting and then decided the most important time in Game 4 Jalen Brunson has been the subject of criticism from NBA fans of players who often try to draw fouls the same as players like Luka Doncic or Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Despite the controversy, Hart acknowledged Hardaway Jr.’s overall performance in the series while maintaining his position on the crucial play I wasn’t going to be able to contest it if he shot it regular the foul would have been called.” this particular play played a role in the Knicks’ success in beating the Pistons in six games And as the Knicks prepare for their next playoff challenge Hart’s unfiltered comments add another layer to an already intense postseason rivalry between these Eastern Conference foes. Share on FacebookShare on X (formerly Twitter)Share on PinterestShare on LinkedInBISMARCK (Valley News Live) - Take a look at the “100” index on the watch’s tachymeter bezel and you’ll notice it’s in red to highlight the 100th anniversary of Le Mans. (It also matches the red “Daytona” text, a feature of current-production Daytonas but also a reference to vintage “Big Red” versions such as the beloved ref. 6263.) No doubt it’s this special model’s many little quirks that caught the eye of Sheeran, who wore his white gold version at the 2025 Time100 Gala this week, and Hart, who wore his yellow gold version while seated courtside at the Nuggets-Clippers game this week. And to be fair to these two gentlemen, this is a killer watch. Handsome and heavy, it’s the type piece that every Rolex is desperate to own. With Game 5 at Madison Square Garden and a 3-1 series lead as the Pistons fought desperately to live another day Detroit may have been aided in those efforts by one decision from Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau All-NBA point guard Jalen Brunson and utility forward Josh Hart were forced to sub out at the 2:57 mark of the fourth quarter; the Knicks trailed Soon after the pair were ready to return to the game but were forced to stand at the scorer's table for a long while waiting for a break in the action That didn't end up coming until there were 27 seconds left in the game and by that point the Pistons had extended their lead to six Afterwards Thibodeau was asked why he didn't call use the Knicks' final timeout to get Brunson and Hart back in "Just where we were with our timeouts," he said "Just where we were with our timeouts. Coach's decision."Tom Thibodeau was asked about the Knicks not using a timeout near the end of the game with Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson waiting to check in at the scorer's table: pic.twitter.com/3xG6IOOlvk There would have been plenty of risk that came along with calling the team's final timeout to get Brunson and Hart back in and in most circumstances they wouldn't have had to wait nearly as long for a foul or out-of-bounds call to sub back in But unfortunately for the Knicks there were no stoppages in play and Thibodeau decided having that last timeout was more important than anything The Knicks were unable to bridge the gap without two of their starters The Knicks head back to Detroit to take on the Pistons in Game 6 on Thursday with a 3-2 series lead as the team prepares to hit the road for Game 6 vs Surprisingly, the Knicks filed an entirely clean report with the league, with two key starters--Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart--notable for their absence Both Hart and Brunson were centers of attention late in the Knicks' Game 5 loss at Madison Square Garden because each went out with just under three minutes to play because of injuries.  Coach Tom Thibodeau failed to stop the clock to get Hart and Brunson back in until only 27 seconds were remaining.  In parsing Thibs' explanation of the situation it stands to reason that perhaps he worried Brunson and Hart were more injured than most knew.  New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson (11)   Mandatory Credit: Wendell Cruz-Imagn Images suffered an ankle injury in the game and was still limping when he returned "I'm all good," he declared after the game though it's still odd to not see him on Thursday's report.    Hart appeared to suffer a wrist injury in the game. "Just needed to regroup, walk it off, and try to go back in," Hart said. When asked if the wrist was his issue, he added, "My whole body's bothering me." Thibodeau was noncommittal when discussing the injuries on Tuesday.  And Hart did not sound like he was going to let his whole-body issues trouble him.  "We've got to go out there and win the game," Hart said. "We've got to go out there and compete. We've got to go out there and be physical. Not worry about foul calls, or refs, or anything like that. We've got to make sure we can control what we can control." Nathan MacKinnon won’t be winning the Hart Trophy is he didn’t even finish in the top-3 of the voting That’s what we found out on Thursday when the league released the finalists Follow your Hart. ❤️ #NHLAwards Leon Draisaitl, Connor Hellebuyck, and Nikita Kucherov are finalists for the Hart Memorial Trophy, awarded annually "to the player adjudged to be the most valuable to his team." 🏆 pic.twitter.com/udt1LXhSQP — NHL (@NHL) May 1, 2025 Connor Hellebuyck and Nikita Kucherov are all great players but Nathan MacKinnon kept the Avalanche afloat through an insane season in which GM Chris MacFarland made nine trades MacKinnon was second in the NHL in points with 116, even though he missed the final three games of the regular season for precautionary reasons while Draisaitl had 10 fewer than MacKinnon with 106 MacKinnon and Kucherov also topped the league in assists with 84 each And the tricky part about Hellebuyck is goaltenders have their own award in the Vezina Trophy but an argument could be made goalies shouldn’t steal position players spots for the MVP The polls throughout the season showed Nathan MacKinnon had a good chance to win back-to-back Hart Trophies the first player to do it since Washington star Alex Ovechkin 16 years ago as MacKinnon didn’t finish high enough to even earn a nomination We’ll find out at some point in June who won the MVP and will see the final voting results It would be a shock if MacKinnon wasn’t fourth The good news is he and teammate Cale Makar are both finalists for the Ted Lindsay Award given to the best guy in the NHL as voted on by the players so you can guess which one MacKinnon would rather win currently trailing 3-2 in their Round 1 series against the Dallas Stars with Game 6 later on Thursday night If Nathan MacKinnon can help them win two straight games and advance to Round 2 Although the Pistons teased a potential Game 7 scenario The All-Star guard showed why he was named the Clutch Player of the Year late last month as he hit the Pistons’ defense with an unforgettable three-point jumper that ended up becoming the game-winning shot Knicks standout Josh Hart flipped the script on Malik Beasley and the Pistons by sending out an immediate postgame message on social media Maybe it was just a coincidence that Hart’s postgame social media post sort of resembled Beasley’s after the Pistons’ Game 5 win on the road at Madison Square Garden Thompson had a surprising emergence on the offensive end of the floor The second-year wing shot 8-10 from the field and generated six points from the charity stripe He tied his career-high in scoring with 22 points While Thompson’s offensive production was impressive his defense is what’s been a highlight of the Pistons’ playoff run Typically looking to slow down Jalen Brunson Thompson helped hold the star guard to just 16 points on 25 percent shooting from the field in Game 5 Thompson had his moments on both ends of the floor once again There were big moments where Thompson slowed down Brunson Brunson went off for 40 points on 46 percent shooting He helped the Knicks put a tough Pistons team away once and for all Facing a crucial Game 6 as the Knicks face the Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals Hart tackled the new criticism levied at Thibodeau amidst metropolitan prep offering another vote of confidence to his tenured boss “He’s used to it, bullseye on his back for that," Hart said, per Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News. "He’s had a bullseye on his back the whole season for minutes Hart was inadvertently at the center of the latest metropolitan playoff controversy Forced to briefly leave the late stages of the Knicks' Game 5 Tuesday tilt with the Pistons with an injury, Hart and a similarly inconvenienced Jalen Brunson were relegated to sitting by the scorer's table for the final stages of what became a 106-103 defeat that extended the series The Knicks had one timeout and no fouls to give and Thibodeau would refer to his inactivity a "coach's decision." Some have theorized that Thibodeau could be coaching for his job on this latest Knick playoff trip his fourth in five seasons at the New York helm as he praised the way Thibodeau has juggled the Knicks' respective talents on this ongoing championship trek “Everyone is on this team because we have faith and trust in them and I think that’s a byproduct of [Thibodeau's supervision]," Hart said What more do you want besides getting stops and getting good looks for good players Backing Thibodeau has become a recurring act of this Knicks playoff run from the get-go: Thibodeau continues to face scrutiny for his excessive workloads placed upon his starters and his late-game management but his most prominent proteges have continued to stand in his corner "I'll say, Individually, he's meant a lot to my career," Brunson said prior to the postseason's tip-off in video from SNY. "There's a lot of players who can say they've definitely benefited from Tom Thibodeau in his career we're always in a position where we compete in the postseason So I'm always looking to support him."
