Their manes neatly combed, the massive horses were decorated with ribbons and greenery as they pulled the adorned carriages to a local church as part of the procession some 35 kilometers (22 miles) south of Munich.
Farmers donned colorful regional costumes and hats decorated with tufts of animal hair called Gamsbart, or chamois beards, as townspeople joined in amid the pounding of hooves. After the procession, the revelry traditionally turned to toasts with schnapps.
Often called Leonhardiritt or Leonhardifahrt, the traditional pilgrimage dates back centuries in Bavaria and Austria. It was revived in Warngau in 1983, after an 80-year break, and takes place there each year on the fourth Sunday in October, ahead of the annual Nov. 6 feast day.
Other Bavarian towns have similar traditions. In Bad Tolz, southwest of Warngau, this year’s Nov. 6 procession will be the 169th in a row.

The crowd journeys to a Leonhardi chapel for blessings and an open-air Mass. The tradition involves the entire town, from the youth to the clergy and the city councillors.
St. Leonhard mostly lived in monasteries and in seclusion in what is now France, though Bad Tolz calls him the “Bavarian Lord.” According to legend, his prayers were believed to be breaking the chains of captives. He is also the patron saint of prisoners, among other groups.
He died of natural causes around the year 559, and many Catholic churches have been dedicated to him throughout Europe.

Text description provided by the architects. The nursing home is located in Upper Passeier Valley at 700m above sea level, close to the church and next to the monastery of the Teutonic Order, situated prominently at the entrance to the village. The existing structure of the 1980s became formally simplified with its redevelopment and extension, while its outer appearance was elaborated with a perforated façade.
Thereby, the facade design of the neighboring historical building of the Teutonic Order, considered to be the foundation for the village community's emergence, is also taken up. It was here that the Teutonic Knights had once built their pilgrims' hospice, around which the village of St. Leonhard developed from the 13th century onwards.

In five years of Leonhard leading the defense before 2023 when he became the interim coach
the Badgers ranked in the top 10 in scoring defense four times
From 2018-22 it allowed just 17.3 points per game
Leonhard, however, is no longer with the program after he was passed over for the team's head coaching job. He is now a senior football analyst with Illinois
Enter Mike Tressel as the new defensive coordinator at Wisconsin
So far, fans aren't liking the transition. Wisconsin gave up 24 points in the first half to Washington State

it did allow 213 yards in the first half and quarterback Cameron Ward led three scoring drives
Tressel came to Wisconsin with head coach Luke Fickell from Cincinnati
The second half went somewhat better for Tressel's unit, though it allowed a lengthy touchdown drive late in the game and Wisconsin lost, 31-22

DE PERE – Amanda Leonhard-Perry knew the question was coming even before she was asked
Norbert College women’s basketball coach begin to replace the legendary Connie Tilley
“I can’t fill those shoes,” said Leonhard-Perry
who received a congratulatory email from Tilley
that I can continue on that same path that she has paved
a leader and a role model to the young women in our program
“I don’t know that I will last as long as she did
but I do promise to do my best to honor her legacy as we continue to build upon the foundation she has laid.”

comes to SNC with a strong résumé as a player and coach
SNC athletic director Tim Bald was impressed by the quality of names interested in replacing Tilley and said the school “got the gem of the pool.”
Leonhard-Perry spent the last 11 years as an assistant for the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay women
She was hired by former coach Matt Bollant in April 2008 and retained by Kevin Borseth when he returned to the Phoenix after a five-year run at Michigan
"Head collegiate coaching positions are not easy to attain," Borseth said. "Amanda has worked hard for years waiting for this day
Amanda understands everything there is to know about coaching
"She has had head coaching in her blood since the beginning just waiting for this opportunity
We are extremely happy for Amanda. She’s going to continue and build upon the legacy that St Norbert has."

Leonard-Perry was an assistant at North Dakota State University for three seasons and at Green Bay Preble for three seasons

who is playing for T71 Dudelange basketball club in Luxembourg
“She has the initiative and drive to bring out all the potential a player has to offer
She is diligent and thorough basketball-wise
and at the same time you can talk to her about anything to do with life as well
“She gave me the best advice and also knew how to make me relax when she knew I was thinking too much
This is an amazing opportunity and I couldn’t be happier for her.”
Leonhard-Perry was a standout guard for the Phoenix while playing for Borseth from 1998 to 2003
She shot 84.7 percent from the line during her four seasons
which ranks second all-time in program history
Leonhard-Perry said she did not apply for coaching jobs in the past
She wasn’t seeking many openings and believes longevity and continuity are important for any program
When the SNC job became available for the first time in more than four decades
it presented the perfect opportunity to finally make the jump
She never wanted to pack up and move her family
She also wasn’t motivated by Power 5 schools or trying to move up the NCAA Division I career ladder
It’s not about the level or the status for her
She just wants herself and her family to be happy and have players she enjoys working with
She told Borseth a few years ago that if the job did ever open up
Borseth was supportive of the decision this week and told his pupil she was ready
“He’s a great person,” Leonhard-Perry said when asked what she might take from her time with Borseth into her new job
I hope that our players here get that feel from me
“And I think some of the leadership things he has taught us over the years
He obviously is very energetic about what he does
Leonhard-Perry will take over an SNC team that went 11-15 this season
its first losing campaign since going 11-12 in 1998-99
Among the local players expected to return include former West De Pere guard Liz Edinger
De Pere’s Olivia DeCleene and Luxemburg-Casco’s Mary Cravillion
Leonhard-Perry’s experience with recruiting will help in her new role
“I think Wisconsin girls basketball has gotten a lot better
it’s in a really good state right now,” she said
“When you have a certain job that you would like down the road in your mind
we go out and watch high school games and AAU games in the summer
That kid would be really good at Division II
You kind of have a little bit of a list in your mind of players that you’d like to go after
you have to get those kids who fall through the cracks.”

During the weeks of Vesper Church it is very busy in Stuttgart's St
(LWI) - A beautiful church, a delicious meal, an office manager and a homeless person having a chat, some support and advice, music and a short devotional. You can find all that in the Vesper Churches in Stuttgart
The German word “Vesper” in German means a substantial snack taken at the traditional time for saying evening prayers – vespers
The underlying idea is to turn the churches into comfortable places during wet and cold winter months
For a period of a few weeks the downtown churches are transformed
tables are set up and meeting points are created to welcome people
“You would hardly find so many different people interacting in one place anywhere else,” he remarks
600 meals a day are prepared in St Leonhard’s Church alone
donations and gifts in kind contribute to the preparing of varied menus and make the side program possible
“That is how we envision a lively and hospitable church,” says July
“A church in which people are there for each other
But it is also a church which draws attention to inequalities and exclusion and stands up for mutual respect and participation.”
Besides the meals, the Vesper Churches offer many other options. They range from daily prayers, diaconal counseling, support for job applications, hairdressing, to cultural events. For example, the Nuremberg State Theater is an important partner of the Vesper Church in that city
The actors and singers perform plays and concerts on Sunday afternoons without charging for entrance
The first Vesper Church project began in Stuttgart in 1995. Since then the idea has taken off. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Württemberg has 30 locations at which congregations open their churches for this diaconal project. And other German regional churches are also taking up the idea, e.g. the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria with its program in Nuremberg

New York based artist Tug Rice chooses St George and the Dragon by Leonhard Beck
‘This remarkable painting enthralled me when I saw it in Vienna
The lush and vibrant colours made me question my preconceived notions about the so-called “dark ages”–offering instead a gleaming
Technicolour version of the Christian legend of St George slaying a dragon
The almost illustrative quality of the subject calls to mind the picture books of castles and knights I devoured as a child
In contrast to the violent action in the foreground
Beck’s dreamy interpretation on the whole makes this a tranquil scene that is easy on the eyes and worthy of multiple viewings’
Tug Rice is a New York City-based artist who has worked with Halcyon Days and The Ritz London
This minutely detailed St George and the Dragon was painted in about 1515 by Leonhard Beck when he was working for the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I in Augsburg
Beck painted St George as a wealthy knight who sits astride a plumed and armoured horse
his arm raised and wielding a sword to deliver the final blow
The dragon—which looks more like a large lizard—has been holding a princess captive
She looks down on the scene from a nearby path in a meticulously painted landscape
It seems St George’s rescue attempt is well under way—the dragon already has a broken lance driven through its scaly neck
dead offspring and skulls littering the ground by its tail
This painting occupies the intersection between medieval illumination
with its jewelled colours and compressed narratives
grasses and plants show great observational skill
there is an otherworldly quality to this work
as if it were a page from a medieval Book of Hours composed of many separate evenly lit scenes
Beck was also one of the most prolific woodcut designers of his generation and he worked alongside many other artists at the court of Maximilian I

Norbert College women’s basketball coach Amanda Leonhard-Perry has added two recognizable names to her staff
She announced Friday the hiring of Pulaski girls coach Jeff Charney and De Pere girls assistant and former University of Wisconsin-Green Bay guard-forward Sam Terry
Charney has spent the past five seasons with the Red Raiders
including a 21-win campaign and a trip to the WIAA sectionals his second year
Charney was an assistant for the De Pere girls for seven seasons
helping to lead the Redbirds to the Division 1 state tournament four times
He inquired about whether she had her assistants lined up
he reached out to her via email to express interest
after a year or two I really started falling in love with the coaching aspect of it,” Charney said
that’s when it became a goal of mine to eventually one day get to the college level.”
Charney informed his team of the move at a meeting Wednesday
He is a special education teacher in the Pulaski district and will remain in that job along with his SNC duties
“It was probably one of the hardest things to have to tell them,” Charney said
“Going into locker rooms after games when you lose
But having to face them on Wednesday and tell them reasons and just seeing the look on their faces
I’m involved with the youth program and I know them from third grade up
“One of the things I did share with them is that every year we ask them to set goals and reach for those goals
I’m showing you that you should reach for those goals and take those chances.”
The former Baraboo High School star played four seasons with UWGB from 2013 to 2017 and was coached during that time by Leonhard-Perry
She averaged 5 points and 3.1 rebounds in 15.7 minutes per game during her senior season despite missing nine contests with injuries
Terry had six surgeries on her knees during her collegiate career
but it always appeared coaching could be in her future
“I am extremely excited about this opportunity to coach for SNC with Amanda and Jeff,” said Terry
who was named Miss Basketball as a prep player in 2013
I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to basketball
The ability to lean on coaching to keep basketball in my life has been one amazing journey and something I am extremely grateful for
“Having coached at different levels the last four years
I have learned so much from everyone I have coached with and against
but I think I am most excited for this coming year to coach with Amanda
There is something truly special about saying I have the opportunity to coach for one of my former coaches at the collegiate level

The company will also celebrate another milestone from June 19 to 24
Kurz and Steinemann DPE will demonstrate the design freedom offered by the DM-UNILINER 3D digital print finishing machine
The stand-alone unit enables both flat and fascinating three-dimensional digitally printed metallization effects as well as the edge-to-edge application of fine details and larger surface decorations
the unit can implement various embellishments in a roll-to-roll process
can be applied similarly to analog finishing in cold transfer before color printing (preprint) and then overprinted in color
It also can be used similarly to analog hot stamping decoration after color printing (postprint)
the stand-alone solution offers a high degree of flexibility because it can operate independently of the CMYK printing system and process
all components of the DM-UNILINER 3D match each other perfectly
a module characterized by high efficiency which contributes to sustainable and economical production
Leonhard Kurz claims that the unit will enable the printing of still-unused areas on already applied cold transfer products
each roll can be used several times to save resources
The possibility of single image applications such as 3D holograms through the Distorun cold transfer module will offer customers significant added value for individual brand identity
At the opening of the Gallus Experience Center from June 19 to 24
all visitors can expect a varied agenda with exciting talks by top-class speakers
events for the (trade) press will be held in the mornings
June 21 to 23 are exclusively for customers

COUNTRYWIDE: Epiphany celebrations, Jan. 6.
It had been planned to join the two Austrian glacier areas in the Tirol. There has been much opposition from environmentalists and some locals. UPDATED
Amongst the planned construction projects were:
• Three new ski lifts • A three storey ropeway station (more than 15,000 m² usable area) • Restaurants and bars (for up to 1,600 guests) • A tunnel (600 m length
7 m diameter) • An asphalted water reservoir (104,000 m³) • Additional artificial snow systems • More than four kilometers of roads and paths • Levelling and removal of ice on 72 ha of glacier terrain • Grinding down of a mountain ridge on the left Fernerkogl by 40m and 120,000 m³
The plans met with an outcry from some on environmental grounds as the construction would have impacted the landscape
the consent of the local community was the basic requirement for us to consider and plan a merger with the Ötztal Glacier and the Sölden ski area,” said the Pitztaler Gletscherbahn in a statement
“This was repeatedly signaled to us by the municipality and clearly confirmed by several unanimous resolutions in the municipal council
Leonhard im Pitztal on the planned merger now shows a different picture and we will of course take note of it
Leonhard to draw the appropriate conclusions
it is clear to us that we will no longer pursue the Pitztal-Ötztal merger project that has been planned since 2016 and has now been shut down.”
The biodiversity in danger included springs
Many of the alpine turfs and forests are endangered habitats that are protected by EU regulations
The planned expansion would have stretched from Mittelberg in Pitztal over Griestal up to the Linker Fernerkogel
Only 7% of Austria‘s national territory are still in a natural state and free from technical infrastructure
“If you carry out construction projects of this size up there
pristine high mountain landscape into an industrial landscape,” said an employee of Austrian Alpine Association
The outdoor clothing brand Patagonia joined the opposition by releasing a documentary about the plan
“The high mountains of the Alps are at risk as developers encroach ever further in the name of expanding ski resorts and their infrastructure—all amidst palpable climate disaster,” said Patagonia
this natural alpine area will be lost forever: lost to nature
” said Patagonia’s snow ambassador
There have been demonstrations against the proposals
Thousands of people took to the streets of Innsbruck and a petition with more than 168,000 signatures and printed on a 60-foot roll was handed to the Tyrol state government
the ski resort operators want to block three untouched glaciers,” said the organiser of the petition
they are destroying the unique high-alpine natural landscape
which is already threatened by global warming
“That’s negligent and we want to prevent that.”

is one of Europe’s oldest cement factories
with more than 20 years’ experience making and using tyre-derived fuel
Head of Asset Management and Maintenance at the St Leonhard-plant
The world is projected to generate about one billion end-of-life-tyres (ELT) each year
according to the World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s Tyre Industry Project
While ELT pose a challenge for the path to a circular economy
but they also offer huge potential – not least in the search for alternative fuels
or tyre-derived fuel (TDF) has been used in the cement industry for many years with good reason
is 25 per cent more effective than coal and most cement kilns don’t need to be modified to use TDF
Companies are also reaping the financial benefit for collecting and disposing of tyre waste
combined with rapidly rising energy costs and environmental awareness
Leube Zement is one of the oldest producers of cement in Europe
The Leube company was founded in Ulm in 1838
was bought in 1864 and has been used for cement production since
The Leube cement plant in St Leonhard started processing ELT to shreds in 1998
It had tried to buy shreds from other companies for a short time but realised that buying TDF would never work due to delivery problems
The company installed its first tyre shredder and began manufacturing TDF in-house
It’s now producing about 5000 kilograms of TDF an hour – about 6000 metric tonnes a year
“Scrap tyres have the advantage of a high calorific value and are easily accessible,” says Christian Wörgötter
Head of Asset Management and Maintenance at the St Leonhard cement plant
they pose an attractive alternative to expensive fossil fuels such as coal and oil
Christian says cement is sensitive to chlorine contamination
Even small amounts of materials such as PVC or packaging containing salt in refuse-derived fuel can bring the chlorine content above the 0.1 per cent maximum threshold
Christian first came across Eldan Recycling at a fair in Dortmund in 2017 where he was on the lookout for a new tyre shredder
the two-shaft shredder we were using was worn out after 20 years of operation
often resulting in massive blockage and wire entanglement,” he says
He says Leube was on the lookout for a tyre shredder that was easy and economical to maintain
could fit within its 100 per cent automatic set-up with as little modification to the plant as possible
Denmark-based Eldan Recycling made its first shredder to cut tyres for TDF in the 1970s when the oil crisis gave a local gardener the incentive to look for alternative ways for heating his greenhouses
He collaborated with Eldan to modify its existing cable shredder to cut the tough tyres, paving the way for further innovation in the field. Today, Eldan is one of the world’s largest suppliers of tyre shredding and recycling equipment with solutions for everything from TDF-production to making fine
steel and textile-free rubber granulate and powder
“All other suppliers said they could only make the required shred size when building in a screening area after the shredding area
and they also needed a return conveyor to the shredder for the oversize,” Christian says
“This would not only require a lot of modifications and potentially an additional employee to handle the TDF
but also additional investment in equipment
with the added maintenance and spare parts that follows.”
Eldan suggested a Super Chopper SC2109 – the largest single-shaft Eldan shredder with nine rotor knives providing the cutting force on the tough material
It can be supplied with screening bars for shreds down to about 100-200 millimetres
or a tyre-feeding silo depending on the customer’s requirements
and the cutting equipment is easily maintained
This is especially important if you have truck tyres with finger-thick bead wires that are impossible to rip apart.”
Leube kept its existing automatic crane set-up
although technicians from Eldan and Leube did some modifications of the feeding section to optimise the automatic function of the system
Leube continued to produce the required TDF size of 100-200 millimetres without additional screening equipment and return conveyors
The tyres are cut rather than ripped apart
ensuring less wire entanglement and a cleaner cut shred
Maintenance time and costs were also reduced
Christian says Leube now spends on average about 50 per cent of the costs in spare and wear parts compared to the former machine
“We have had our old machine running for 20 years
and I assume that will also be possible with the Eldan Super Chopper,” he says

Heavy snowfall over the weekend has caused plenty of disruption to roads in the Austrian mountains as well as in parts of Slovenia
A number of roads are still affected and you can find a list of them below
The winter snow over the weekend predominantly hit the Austrian regions of Carinthia and Tirol
heavy snow and rain has seen 300 firefighters called out across Carinthia to deal with a number of problems
the authorities even announced a level-4 avalanche risk
Many localities remain without electricity and many of them cannot be reached because of closures to mountain roads
some major road connections were also closed this morning
reports the Austrian news portal nachrichten.at
This includes Großglockner Straße (B107) and Mölltal Straße (B106)
which are impassable in several places due to avalanche danger
Kötschach-Mauthen is only available to emergency vehicles
while Iselsberg does not have a route between Carinthia and East Tyrol
Those hoping to use the Plöckenpass towards Italy will only be able to do so using snow chains
some other roads also have this requirement
& mdash; TAG24 NEWS Deutschland (@ TAG24) December 6, 2020
According to the information provided on an ongoing basis by the ÖAMTC, the Austrian automobile club
the following roads are currently impassable due to snowfall:
Segments of the A1 and A2 motorways (the sections between Senožece and Nanos in the direction of Koper
respectively between Lesce and Radovlijca to Austria) have been closed due to road accidents involving cargo transport
in the northwest of the Gorenjska region) were closed for the same reason
The Fernetiči (Italy) and Starod and Jelšane (Croatia) border crossings were closed for cargo over 7.5 tonnes
Traffic on a section of the motorway between Ajdovščina and the Nanos intersection has also been restricted
