KNS Precision is well known for their adjustable gas plug for AK47/AK74 derivatives
This year at the 2025 NRAAM convention in Atlanta
GA they debut an expansion of this line into a unique platform
Their new unnamed gas plug for the Steyr AUIG brings the same adjustability they are known for into the Austrian bullpup world with a drop in gas regulator
While this part is not yet available for purchase it promises a substantial increase in settings over the OEM 3 position gas plug
It has 2 gross adjustment settings and per these 2 adjustment settings there are 14 fine settings
allowing for a total of 28 different gas adjustments
According to the folks over at KNS Precision
Steyr USA has been running this widget through its paces and the feedback has been positive thus far
According to a KNS team member this regulator functions very similarly to the KNS Precision gas Czech valve with 1 less gross setting
It is worth noting that as of now this gas piston does not have a “closed” setting which frankly is impractical
This really helps bring the AUG into a new light in the age of common-use suppressors
Each suppressor has different gas blowback properties making the simple 3 position system less than optimal which this product effortlessly solves
Whether you are using a flow through can or traditional baffle design - this will in theory give you the flexibility to tune your AUG exactly where you need to be
I think this shows great growth for KNS Precision as well - their continued willingness to bring their gas regulators into new platforms while working directly with the rifle’s manufacturer ensuring reliable operation
We see a constant race to challenge the AR15 as consumers look for alternate platforms
I am excited to see this product take shape and even more excited to see what the folks over at KNS Precision do next

Steyr’s Pro Hunter III is likely the best do-all hunting rifle you can buy for around a grand
Steyr is an Austrian company from an Austrian town of the same name. It’s been making firearms since 1864; before that it was making swords and armor for knights in the middle ages. In 1887 a dude by the name Ferdinand Ritter von Mannlicher signed on to work there, and much of the rest is interesting, world-influencing history that you can read here. Today the company makes bolt-action rifles for hunters
Every Steyr I’ve ever fired over the years has been a model of European quality and craftsmanship.
Though the term “quality” is tough to describe and evidently even tougher to produce
like when you slam the door of a Mercedes for the first time
Some of these traits might be described as tight—the opposite of jiggly—solid and precise in manufacture and assembly
there’s a good chance it’s going to be accurate
It’s got everything hunters need with no unnecessary aesthetics
It’s of proper weight—-not too heavy to carry yet not too light to shoot well—and it’s among the most inherently safe rifles ever made thanks to its fire-control system.
some of those features include a stock that was smartly designed
It features an aluminum bedding chassis that provides the platform for the rifle’s accuracy
Externally it’s my idea of the perfect hunting stock with its rubberized grip panels that are quiet and easy to hold on to
I like that its forearm is squared so that it can be rested easily
yet it tapers all the way to the end so it isn’t obnoxious
it would be an adjustable comb because scopes have become so large and tend to sit higher in relation to the bore these days
The rifle would do well with a comb to match.
The .308 I most recently tested wore a 20-inch cold-hammer forged barrel
This type of manufacturing process is generally regarded as the best (with all things being equal) because less honing is needed to smooth out imperfections left by button rifling
I like the subtle hammer-spiral finish that adds some class and uniqueness
It’s threaded for a suppressor and comes with a thread protector
The Pro Hunter is magazine-fed from a detachable
I like the fact that two tabs on either side of the magazine must be depressed to remove it (this mitigates the chance of it popping out inadvertently) and that it can be loaded by pushing it straight up rather than rocking it in
It features a stop to allow hand-feeding directly into the chamber while keeping the magazine in the well
It is much higher quality than dozens of detachable box mag rifles on the market at the moment
The only concern I found was in mounting a scope; Because the bolt’s handle is curved and because the eyepieces of many of today’s top-end, 30mm scopes are very thick, I had to try a few scopes before I found one that allowed the bolt room to work properly without being mounted silly high. (I like my scopes mounted as low on the bore as possible.) So just be aware of this before buying a new scope and rings for it.
All in all however, if a buddy says he has about $1,000 to spend on a new rifle, I recommend the Pro Hunter III every time.
Pros: perfect hunting rifle in size and weight; accurate; detachable box magazine; very safe; great trigger; grippy stock

an Austrian maker of diesel engines used in tanks and military boats
says it can easily double output to meet European demand amid an arms race that’s lifted its stock by more than 540% this year

ABB has entered into a strategic collaboration with Austria-based Engineering Software Steyr GmbH (ESS) to develop powerful simulation tools that will transform automotive paint shop operations while reducing costs by up to 30 percent
ABB will take a minority investment in ESS. Financial details of the investment were not disclosed
“Delivering faster and more energy efficient solutions for the paint process is the final piece of the puzzle in digitalizing the manufacturing transition in the automotive industry,” said Marc Segura
“The innovative solutions we are developing with ESS will cut vehicle development time by up to a month and generate cost savings of up to 30 percent
a manufacturer producing 300,000 vehicles has the potential to cut CO2 emissions by nearly 17,000 tons* annually – equivalent to flying an airliner around the Earth 19 times**.”
A typical automotive paint shop process consists of more than 20 individual steps
from degreasing and electrocoating to sealing
Each step is subject to a variety of parameters – such as material viscosity
and drying time – that must be tested and optimized before series production of a new model can begin
it can be expensive and time consuming to perform each task
“We recognize how crucial it is for all players — large
medium and small companies — to have access to the right digital tools for innovation
the complexity of such tools in the market makes it difficult for smaller companies to leverage the power of digital
We're committed to leveling the playing field by making the simulation tech accessible to all manufacturers
and stay competitive in a demanding industry.”
The partnership will also enable customers to benefit from ABB Robotics’ extensive expertise within the automotive paint shop and their success with smart automation solutions such as PixelPaint
an inkjet-style vision-controlled paint head that reproduces precise details
and the RB1000i-S digitally-enabled atomizer that achieves up to 99 percent transfer efficiency
meaning less paint and materials are required
ABB will integrate ESS’s technology into ABB’s RobotStudio®
the world’s most popular offline programming and simulation tool for robotic applications
* ABB/ESS internal analysis with 100kWh energy saving at typical energy mix plus 2.8kg waste and overcoating reduction per vehicle body for a total saving of 16,860 tons of CO2 per annum assuming annual production of 300,000 vehicles.** Calculation assumes 250-seat Boeing 787-8 with industry average emissions of 142.25g per mile per seat (IBA analysis)

an innovative hydrogen fuel cell-powered STEYR® concept tractor has recently made its public debut
The FCTRAC was developed as part of a national research project funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) and led by the Institute of Powertrains and Automotive Technology (IFA) at TU Wien
Based on a standard STEYR 4140 Expert CVT tractor
the development was a collaborative effort between CNH’s St
Valentin-based engineering team and their project partners from science and industry
homologate and test the tractor and its hydrogen fuel cell power unit
The STEYR FCTRAC hydrogen fuel cell tractor project aim was end-to-end sustainability
via a BioH2Module developed to complement the tractor
This produces hydrogen from biogenic raw materials and residues
meaning 15-16 kg dry biomass is needed to produce hydrogen equivalent to around 3.5 l of Diesel
and there is no compromise in terms of power – with the tractor meeting the demanding requirements of agricultural work in the same manner as a diesel-powered equivalent
which has a 14 kWh high-voltage battery and 400 V electrical system
The fuel cell and electric drive systems take the place of the diesel engine
while the fuel tank is replaced by a compressed hydrogen storage system and a high-voltage battery
“The STEYR FCTRAC attracted considerable attention recently at the Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna
venue for the Austrian State Prize for Technology awards
for which it was nominated in the ‘Mobility Technologies category
a section which honours groundbreaking Austrian technical innovations,” says Marco Lombardi
“The category focuses on the research and development of sustainable
climate-neutral and intelligent mobility technologies
and it was an honour to participate in the ceremony
This tractor not only embodies the sustainable future our industry strives for
but also solidifies CNH’s position as a leader in alternative fuel innovations
We are looking forward to further working on this very exciting project,” he concluded

Steyr Arms had a variety of guns on display at SHOT Show 2025
Their unique Monobloc rifle is the star of the show
but there were plenty of other interesting things in their booth as well
The Monobloc is new to the US market and has a very unique design
The action and barrel are machined out of one solid piece of steel
the barrel is not separate from the action in any way
where the barreled actions can be swapped out along with magazines and bolt heads where necessary
This is not Steyr's first gun to feature this construction method
Steyr made double rifles with both barrels made out of one piece of steel
that knowledge was destroyed in World War 2
As German-speaking countries are known to do
they set the engineers loose and told them to figure it out again
The Monobloc is the direct result of that project
The barrel and action assembly is formed around a mandrel as a single unit
Steyr doesn't mess around with quality control
and to quote Jim Barton “It's either perfect or it gets scrapped.”
with features like leather pads made from the same leather used in Rolex watch straps
An aluminum chassis supports the action in both wood and synthetic stock models
It also has a hand cocking system as part of the safety mechanism
and a great deal of effort went into making it easy to use even for people with reduced hand strength
and decocking the gun resets that trigger back to the heavier setting
All of those features come at a price though; the MSRP is $5,900
Some other guns on display included the updated Pro Hunter 3, which has an improved stock over the last generation. It has rubber pads made into the stock which will not come out. The THB heavy barreled rifle was there too, as was the Scout II in FDE. I have written about that gun previsouly and am extremely fond of it
We can’t talk about Steyr without mentioning the AUG
A version with the new 9mm conversion kit was on display
It feeds from a clear waffle magazine with the same external dimensions as the standard AUG mag
One final little surprise was the Spartan Precision CP Brace
shown here supporting the SSG M1 in .338 Lapua Magnum
That little brace spans between the legs of the tripod to set up an alternate firing point
The top of the tripod is still available as a mounting point for the rifle if the shooter needs to be standing
That is a great convenience feature for people who spend long hours on the gun
but the rear leg of the tripod can work as a rear support for the rifle stock
This configuration with a small squeeze bag braced against the stock was extremely stable
There was none of the wobble that comes from having an unsupported stock when shooting standing on a tripod
This is a very clever product and I think we will be seeing more of this soon among precision shooters and military/LE snipers

Is an updated AUG going to come setup with the MK2 rail kit and the brass deflector, or are those separate accessories you’ll have to purchase?
Also, any word on when they’ll release the AUG STANAG lower with the bolt release?
Steyr should consider shipping / manufacturing their Breeze integrally suppressed rifle in the US. Their design makes the design more compact than a screw on silencer gun and it has Steyr quality to it. Now that Blaser sells integrally silenced barrels for their R-8 in the US, the Breeze needs to be available here.

There have been some great rifle actions produced over the years, many of which are still used by riflemen across the world. As you and I both know, we are highly discerning—snobbish, actually—when it comes to our rifles, and rifle actions don’t withstand the test of time if they aren’t inherently accurate, safe, strong, and reliable no matter what.
Hell, I’ve written about Jeff Cooper’s Steyr Scout rifle several times over the years, and come to find out, I didn’t fully understand it either. Typical writer. But what I now realize is that everytime I’ve shot one, it’s as smooth as glass, it never has any problems, and it’s always accurate. But I never really considered that the Safe Bolt System may be the safest bolt action ever made in terms of mechanical trigger safety, jam prevention, and catastrophic failure mitigation.
Honestly a video would be a better medium to quickly explain the SBS system, but I’ll do my best. The SBS’s bolt, safety, and chamber form a system to 1. Keep the gun from going bang when it’s not supposed to; 2. Ensure that the bolt functions and locks up smoothly despite dirt and grime, and 3.Prevent the action from killing you if your drunk Uncle Robbie double-charges a few handloads just to see what they’ll do.
The bolt body is coated in a proprietary finish that’s as slick as Clark Griswold’s sled spray, and it features grooves that give grime somewhere to go and something other to do than seize the action. Coordinating machined edges within the receiver are designed to clean these grooves if they become impacted. So working the bolt self-cleans the action.
Finally, the bolt and two-lug bolt head are made of stout-ass steel from bar stock. But I didn’t realize there are secondary lugs behind the primary locking lugs that engage a rotating “pressure collar” to ensure that any gas that may explode rearward due to one of Robbie’s rocket rounds are directed in a controlled fashion through the port holes in the bolt, and not through your noggin.
But of course, your safety is none of my damn business, so do as you will. As for me, I’m headed out to shoot my crossbow, AKA, the human mousetrap.
It's not the first gun to wear the name “Steyr Scout,” but it keeps the features that made the original memorable while improving it in concrete ways
It's a one-of-a-kind blend of hunting rifle
Over the last several months I have used this rifle extensively
Disclosures: Over the course of my Steyr Scout series I have developed a relationship with the company
I am an unabashed fan of Steyr rifles at this point and have a high opinion of the guys who work there
The First Look article covered many of the features of the Scout Mk II
Be sure to read that article for the initial introduction to this rifle
as well as my articles on the original Steyr Scout if you want even more background on this family of guns
TFB FIRST LOOK: The New Steyr Scout Mk II
TFB Review: Steyr Scout 6.5 Creedmoor (Part 1)
TFB Review: What Optic For A Steyr Scout? (Part 2)
TFB Review: The Steyr Scout 6.5 Creedmoor In The Field (Part 3)
we will jump into the meat of the review without much preamble
One of the selling points of a .308 over a 6.5 Creedmoor (or other more specialized caliber) is cheaper ammo
but historically speaking preppers like the .308 in a bolt gun or DMR because belted machine gun ammo could be used as an alternate ammo source if needed
so I shot a variety of ammo ranging from M80 NATO ball ammo to match-grade boat tail hollow points
The best group of the test was with IMI Razorcore 175-grain boat tail hollow point ammo
The first three rounds were just over a quarter of an inch
and the fourth and fifth rounds brought the group up to 0.79 inches
That kind of accuracy wasn't an outlier
It put five rounds of Red Army Standard steel case FMJ into 1.08 inches
It also averaged right at 1 MOA for 5-round groups with a cheap hand load I usually shoot in my PTR-91 (mixed headstamp brass
168-grain Speer BTHP with thrown charges of 8208 XBR)
It also shoots Armscor 168-grain just under 1 MOA for five-round groups
A lot of the credit for this accuracy goes to the excellent trigger Steyr puts in this rifle
It's a light 2-stage trigger with an extremely consistent break
This one measures consistently at three points
I also employed the superb Leupold Mark 4HD 6-24x50 scope (review forthcoming
but it is a pretty exceptional optic) to take out as much human error as possible
The Scout Mk II is a very lightweight rifle
One of the trade-offs with light rifles is the heat build-up
Guns generally shoot worse when they are hot than when they are not
Target rifles help mitigate that heat by using heavy barrel profiles
which can handle more rounds fired before the heat becomes an issue
That’s all well and good if the rifle is only carried from the truck to the firing line
but is not ideal on the side of a mountain
I fired 5-round groups for accuracy testing
Some of those groups were larger than I was expecting
and I discussed the accuracy results with my friend Jim from Steyr
He told me that their factory accuracy testing is done with 3- or 4-round groups
I decided to do a little testing to see if the new design features made a difference or not
One test was checking to see how much the group expanded when the gun was very hot
I fired a ten-round group as fast as I could while maintaining accuracy
The ammo I was using was the bulk reloads mentioned earlier
which typically turned in around 1 MOA groups for 5 rounds
That is an excellent ten-round group for any rifle
and is phenomenal for a lightweight hunting rifle like this
I was so shocked that I repeated the experiment
The next ten-round group measured 1.59 inches
The rifle had not cooled fully from the previous group
There was also substantial mirage coming from the silencer which did not help with aiming
Steyr’s changes to the Scout Mk II seem to make a major difference in how the rifle shoots when it is hot
The one-piece receiver and additional airflow around the barrel seem to make quite a difference
and a very light barrel contour is one of the ways that Steyr keeps that weight low
But the thin barrel does not have enough meat on it for the standard 5/8x24 thread pattern used on most .308 rifles
which generally required an adapter to another thread pitch to use common silencers
1/2x28 may not be the most common for this application but it is still reasonably available
The SilencerCo Scythe-Ti is an extremely light suppressor
weighing in at only 8.6 ounces with the anchor brake
That weight reduction comes from the tubeless design and full titanium construction
Steyr designed the Scout to be a quick-handling rifle that points easily and I did not want to mess up that weight and balance with a heavy suppressor
SilencerCo also sells a titanium direct thread adapter in 1/2x28
so there was no need for additional weight or potential tolerance stacking with a 1/2x28-to-5/8x24 thread adapter
With the SilencerCo Scythe-Ti attached the groups shifted 1 MIL low and 0.5 MIL right from the unsuppressed zero
This was more of an academic observation though because I kept the silencer attached for essentially the entire review
It is just that much more fun to shoot with a can
I decided to throw some accessories at the Scout Mk II to see if anything made sense
First up was a small cleaning kit to fit inside the storage compartment
I grabbed a Boresnake and a little packet of ALG Go Juice (pilfered from their SHOT Show booth) and
There are better cleaning kits than this but it is enough to get by in a pinch
Another opportunity was on the new MLOK sections under the handguard
I grabbed an Amazon-grade Arca plate and installed it
just a little too wide to allow the built-in handguard to open
But for someone who would shoot from a tripod but never use the integrated bipod it is an option
I bought a couple of two-round holders backed with hook-and-loop from Amazon
I really like using shell cards on shotguns and wanted to try something similar on this gun
The ones on the stock did not provide much and I promptly removed them
but I kind of liked the “match saver” with two rounds set right by the action
Sliding one more round into the action was easy and consistent
With the magazine cutoff feature this could also be a way to have different bullets on hand and quickly accessible (e.g
Part of the allure of the scout rifle concept is that it can do most jobs well enough while still being easy to carry all day long
One way to think about the Scout rifle is as the DMR of bolt actions
A DMR is precision-oriented but still capable of doing other AR jobs too
but still can handle jobs traditionally associated with semiautos
Its bread and butter work is hunting and controlling predators or varmints on a ranch
but it would still be reasonably capable in a defensive situation as well
But if I had to choose a modern hunting rifle to take into an uncertain situation
I would take the Scout Mk II over any other option
I would still take an AR if that was my only consideration
but that’s not enough rifle for larger North American game animals
and depending on the configuration may not be appropriate for distance use
One morning at the range I decided to mount a red dot and run some drills
1-R-1 and Mozambique drills are not typical fare of hunting rifles
The bolt runs well with rapid cycling and all rounds fed and ejected without drama
Times were slower than would be expected with a semi auto
but still faster than seemed probable with a bolt action
I also took the Scout Mk II out on a range day with one of my friends who is an avid shooter, but not a scout rifle guy. He also shot in the prior test of Scout rifle optics. The Scout Mk II was wearing a Trijicon Credo 1-10x28 FFP when he shot it
Transitioning between small steel plates set up around a valley was fast
and every time he pulled the trigger there was a hit
I had him shoot a PTR-91 at the same group of targets while standing
Even though there was no bolt to run between shots
he hit less consistently and slower with the PTR than the Scout
The light weight and fast handling of the Scout Mk II is tough to quantify
but shooting in the field in positions other than rested on a bench it is obvious
The Steyr Scout Mk II executes the core tasks of a rifle
But there are a lot of other bolt action rifles out there that are accurate and reliable
What really differentiates the Scout from the rest of the pack is all of the additional features hidden on the gun
I forget there are flip-up irons on the gun because they are so tucked away
but they are available if they are ever needed
and the ability to cut off the magazine feed for single loading are very handy
The stock also conceals a special storage space in the pistol grip which
When the Scout is set to the “super safety” position
the bolt handle locks down tight against the action to avoid snags
the bolt handle pops back out for easy manipulation
All of these little details add up to a rifle that shines when it is in the field
This is not a gun that should spend its life shooting groups off of a bench or pretending to be a sniper rifle
It is a tool for people who spend time outdoors
and every effort has been made to make it easy to live with without compromising the accuracy or reliability
These guns retail at the $2,000 price point because they are made in Europe and held to high standards
That extra expense is well worth it to people who spend a lot of time afoot with a rifle in hand
though it may not seem necessary to the kind of hunter that is never more than half a mile from their vehicle
The Scout Mk II reminds me of a working dog
you can feel that this gun’s spirit craves action
It wants to be in your hand on a backcountry trail or bouncing around in a muddy truck on some forgotten logging road
This is not a gun bred for sitting around the house or winning pageants
It is a gun that wants and deserves a few bumps and scratches earned in pursuit of wild game or defending livestock from predators
Don’t buy this rifle if you never leave the pavement
But if you do tend to find yourself miles from cell service on a regular basis
you really should consider taking along a Steyr Scout

likely the most ingenious rifle design from an engineering standpoint
the most ingenious rifle design from a purely pragmatic view.
Steyr is the Austrian firearm manufacturer that makes the iconic AUG bullpup carbine used by military and L&E units all over the world
was the result of a collaboration with the late Lt
Jeff Cooper to create what Cooper viewed as the “Queen of the battlefield,” the ultimate battle rifle.
Cooper insisted it be no longer than 1 meter in length
and have a spare magazine and integral bipod onboard; he wanted it chambered in a caliber readily capable of killing men past 400 yards
he wanted it to be of “scout rifle concept” design
which is to say he wanted its optic to be mounted toward the muzzle to allow better access to the chamber and mainly to enhance the peripheral vision of the shooter while on the scope by keeping both eyes open
and has been selling its original Scout rifle until 2023 when it was updated with a few small technological enhancements that became available over the last 25 years.
Pros: accurate, compact, back-up iron sights, integral bipod, accepts nearly any type of optic, spare magazine bay, the ultimate whitetail hunting rifle
Cons: the Scout shooting concept is misunderstood and unpopular with many shooters, therefore forward-mounted optics can look funny; sling mounts need to be updated

Home » Reviews » 21st Century Steyr: Can The AUG Be Saved
Originally founded in 1864 by Josef Wernd as “Josef & Franz Werndl & Company,” Steyr has been innovating for almost 160 years
was adopted by the Austrian Army back in 1867
it was converted to a stock corporation (renamed to Austrian Arms-Manufacturing Company) in 1869
and in 1891 with over half a million rifles made in one year
it became the biggest weapon producer in the world
Steyr was exporting to over 20 nations.
and was rebranded again to Steyrer Werke AG in 1926.
and continues today as one of Europe’s largest weapons producers
it seems the only people who understand the age and pedigree of Steyr are the wealthy or seasoned who may have owned a Mannlicher — but every young American who has watched an action movie over the last three decades or played a first-person shooter video game knows and recognizes the iconic AUG
the Austrian military assisted in the development and eventual adoption of the AUG
which stands for “Universal Army Rifle.”
quick-change-barreled bullpup replaced the StG.58
the AUG was considered a huge revolution in weapon design
The rifle was extremely modular for its day
with multiple barrel lengths that could be changed in seconds
and 20-inch standard barrels were available and a 24.4-inch barrel offered for LMG use
The rifle and its use of plastics and polymers caused quite the stir
with many uneducated touting it as dangerous and “undetectable,” despite the large amount of steel used in its construction
The rifle received two major revisions, with the original A1 introduced in 1977, the A2 updated in 1997, and finally the currently available A3 produced since 2005
Steyr also made an AUG Para chambered in 9mm
Conversion kits are still available that alter the AUG into a modern pistol caliber carbine
but these are imported in limited numbers and can be hard to find
the AUG leaves you with very limited options for modifications
there are quite a few things to tweak if you want to modernize ergonomics and maximize aftermarket accessory capabilities
As a relatively rare foreign service rifle
the well of available parts to address these issues proves extremely shallow.
as the combination of short overall length and the addition of the barrel change system leaves almost no space up front for lights
You can’t start looking at AUG parts very long without stumbling across the name Corvus Defensio
Corvus leads the charge for modernizing and updating the AUG
which led to the purchase of about half their catalog of AUG parts
The plastic charging handle is particularly irritating; there’s something about grabbing a piece of polymer when manipulating a gun during a malfunction or a reload that doesn’t instill confidence
The Corvus charging handle is made of steel and also changes its angle
simply due to a spring that has to be placed in a certain way
It requires some patience and time with a dental pick
The factory AUG uses its sling swivel as a rear takedown pin
Popping this pin allows the removal of the buttpad and access to the trigger pack for disassembly and cleaning
There’s nothing wrong with the factory part
but the Corvus replaces it with a QD sling cup
cleaning up the rear end of the gun without having to use a wire-loop QD conversion
The mag release on the AUG is located directly rear of the magazine
It’s typically activated with the thumb of the support hand while removing the magazine during a reload
offering a metal machined release with a wide
extended paddle that makes it easier to operate
only taking a couple minutes to swap out.
so the bolt and fire controls are directly under your face as you shoulder the rifle
which for many will be about ½ inch beneath your mouth
The OEM AUG completely lacks a brass deflector
it certainly brings some comfort and insurance against hot brass ending up in awkward places
Since the trigger surface is so far forward of the actual fire control unit
The hammer and trigger internals are also entirely plastic
advertisements started popping up about a U.S.-made billet trigger from Arid Concepts
Their trigger comes complete with a billet safety selector made from 6061 aluminum bar stock
Combined with the Ratworks 20/20 precision trigger sear mod
they completely transformed the AUG trigger
it’s very much a usable and enjoyable trigger/safety setup
making this gun significantly easier to shoot fast
with a predictable trigger squeeze and short reset
The AUG doesn’t have many options for mounting modern accessories
and with the AUG’s barrel change system it makes the forward part of the gun an interesting problem to solve
a favorite modification ended up being the biggest pain to accomplish: the ClawGear Rail
ClawGear is based out of Austria and makes a variety of weapons accessories for the Steyr AUG
including a rail that adds a lot of mounting real estate and changes the entire look of the rifle.
Thus began a search for a company that would purchase and file an ATF Form 6 to import one into the country for this project
The rail itself is easy to install and clamps around the gas block and barrel right at the connection point for the factory barrel attachment system
The rail has an open slot to allow for adjustment of the gas block and venting of gases.
ClawGear also offers a cover that wasn’t mounted after consulting with the guys in Austria about their experiences with it
The quality is top notch and was worth the wait
The optic/red-dot setup was ordained before even receiving the gun
The AUG’s compact size makes it a great gun to run a red dot and magnifier
so an Aimpoint CompM5 with a Micro 3x magnifier would be the base
having proven themselves through multiple deployments.
The one unknown on the AUG was the Unity Tactical Riser and magnifier mount
which on the AR-15 provides a more upright head position
the distance from the stock to the optic on the AUG was exactly the same as a Sig MCX
an FDE Modlite PLHv2-18350 with a Modbutton delivered compact size and performance
It’s attached to a Pic rail on the ClawGear at about 10 o’clock via an Arisaka Defense light mount
The AUG is known as a brutally reliable platform
It’s been through multiple service rifle trials
and re-proving its performance isn’t the focus of this article
None of the mods outlined here specifically improve reliability; rather they enhance feel and function.
the gun has digested around 1,500 rounds (primarily 55-grain FMJ)
The only issue of note was with bonded 64-grain Winchester
which experienced some light primer strikes within the first 150 rounds.
you begin with a list of expectations of what you hope to accomplish and at the end you find out how close you got to checking off your boxes
The updates to the trigger and controls make the gun feel like a proper work gun.
The ClawGear Rail up front allows for the use of modern accessories and provides space for a more-forward hold for modern techniques of control and recoil management
The AUG is said to be “combat gassed,” meaning it’s a bit heavy on recoil
The forward hand position really does help handling — even though it’s only a couple inches
At this point there isn’t much more to change about the gun
The design of the ClawGear Rail slightly recesses the flash hider into the rail system
so further modification or an adapter to function with a silencer might be required.
Another potential future modification would be the addition of a laser for use with night vision
perhaps mounting solution to place an IR laser on top of the rail itself for manual control — if any readers have any suggestions
“If you had to pick between an AR-15 and an AUG
which would it be?” The great thing is you don’t have to
The AUG offers some advantages over the AR-15 in terms of its compact size with a longer barrel — it’s smaller than a 10.3-inch-barreled Mk18 AR but delivers the ballistics of a 16-inch barrel
the aftermarket support will always be better for the AR-15 here in the States
but as you can see running an AUG in a modern configuration is definitely possible.
If you’re on the fence about this European war horse or are curious about them
get your hands on one — and choose your own adventure.

This is my interview with Steyr AUG developer Dr
a key member of the Steyr AUG development team
to discuss his role in designing one of the most iconic bullpup rifles in history
and where he thinks the future of the assault rifle is headed
this exclusive interview gives insight into the mind of a true firearms expert
Was hoping the latest Austeyr would be mentioned as Australia is one of the only countries still using the platform ….
In fact it was the first use of the new Steyr ejection port buffer
who was a police officer in the his Departments Special Operations Group
He had an opportunity to fire a variety of automatic weapons and he liked the AUG the best
A leading bolt-action rifle in the weight class of a single-shot "kipplauf" rifle: this is the Gams from Steyr Arms
Read this article on all4hunters.com to find out how the flyweight is achieved and how the rifle performs on the shooting range and on the hunting grounds
Steyr has partnered with Fine Ballistic Tools (FBT) for the project of the ultimate high mountain rifle
the performance that the Steyr Gams could deliver; and on the other
the performance that the stock and the combo itself would deliver
The Steyr Gams was made available in 6.5 Creedmoor
FBT from Austria has not only established itself on the market with its own ultra-light 3D printed silencers
It all started with the model for the Blaser R8 actions
and now there is hardly a rifle action for which FBT cannot offer or manufacture a suitable carbon fiber stock
The Unic carbon fiber thumbhole stock is available for right and left-handed shooters
The stock carbon fiber fabric is laminated in layers in a special way and is therefore unbreakable
the stock has a 3D printed part in the center that houses the magazine and the action
The lightness achieved by the carbon fiber material in combination with the action section from the 3D printer is undeniably phenomenal
The transitions between the individual materials are very cleanly finished and the gun makes a very high-quality impression (and not just because of this)
the recoil should be directed straight into the shooter's shoulder
This should prevent the rifle muzzle from climbing as high as possible
The hollow carbon fiber body should also take some of the recoil away from the shooter
The cheek rest can be adjusted using a push button
The cheek riser can be removed from the stock without tools and cleaned if necessary
The rear of the buttstock has so-called overload protection
it should not break off but be pushed back into the stock
The small QD mount for the Push & Go sling swivel is located in the buttstock
The pistol grip of the thumbhole stock can be gripped very well with both larger and smaller hands
The pistol grip is quite short and relatively steep
The ergonomics were already very comfortable when aiming and shooting from a sitting position on the shooting range (and also from a high seat)
but here too the "aha experience" comes when you shoot the gun lying down
The quickly removable mini-QD mount is practical for shooting while lying down
you don't have to take the diversions via the sling swivel
but can click one of Spartan's bipods into the fore-end
The Steyr Gams has not only been optimised in terms of stock for hunting in the mountains
None of these calibers are too recoil-prone and harmonise well with the lightness of the gun
The manual cocking device is located on the top tang
If the cocking slide is in the lowest position and a white dot is visible
the cocking slide must be pushed upwards and a red dot becomes visible
The resistance for cocking is set just right
this is indicated by the protruding pin in the back of the bolt shroud
It retracts again when the gun is uncocked
Lovers of manual cocking will get their money's worth with the version tested here
The safety then acts on the trigger and also locks the bolt handle and the firing pin
The receiver is machined from a solid billet and Steyr uses Weaver cut-outs to accommodate an optic
Dentler mounts have also been available for the Steyr Gams since last October
Steyr Arms relies on the patented SBS system for the locking mechanism
which has an additional retaining ring around the bolt head
This type of bolt is intended to provide the shooter with additional safety
for example in the event of unexpectedly high gas pressure
The additional cut-outs in the bolt are intended to ensure trouble-free firing under extreme conditions
the trigger must be pulled and the bolt can then be removed from the action in a twisting motion
The bolt handle has a nice curve and the throw is 70°
The grey Manox coating ensures a visually harmonious overall impression
The test rifle was fitted with a Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x56 riflescope using an Eratac block mount
The Eraloc quick release and the Erasilencer SOB 2S silencer came from the same manufacturer
with a core and aperture part made of highly tempered stainless steel and an outer shell made of high-strength aluminum with reinforced walls
this silencer is also suitable for use in shooting cinemas
This is described by Steyr as a double stage type with set trigger
there was no trigger wall to be found on the gun tested
the trigger broke quite sluggishly and slipped
the characteristics were not more satisfactory
The measured pull weights of the trigger (approx
830 g and 170 grams whit set trigger) would basically be a very good match for the rifle
Feeding of the bolt-action rifle did not cause any problems: the detachable double-stack polymer magazine can also be easily loaded with cartridges from above when inserted into the rifle
The two buttons on the right and left of the magazine must be pressed simultaneously to remove the cartridges
FBT has opted for a straight rubber recoil plate
which is designed to deflect the recoil straight into the shooter's shoulder
shooting with the lightweight stock is never uncomfortable
Adjusting the height of the cheek rest is child's play thanks to a push button integrated into the stock
The different notches are somewhat undefined
There is no stop that limits the height adjustment
in the "worst" case you have the whole component including the springs in your hand
everything can be put back together just as quickly as it was taken apart
The distance between the trigger blade and the pistol grip proves to be well chosen
The bolt handle is also very easy to grip and fire
The bolt throw angle should be taken into consideration when selecting the optic
the bolt handle and the "Switchview" throw lever of the riflescope did not correspond optimally with each other
The gun was tested on the shooting range with four different loads. The velocity in front of the muzzle was measured with a Garmin Xero C1 Chronograph. Rarely have the results been in such a wide range. First place with 16 mm went to the RWS HIT
it was noticeable that the cartridges were fed without any problems
but were occasionally not ejected and remained in the ejection port
At first we could not make any sense of this
it was probably due to the cases touching the bulky mount
I didn't want to miss the opportunity to go hunting with the test gun
I thought I had a good chance from the high seat
a female roe deer disappeared through the beech regeneration up the slope
Then there was a distinct rustling sound in the frozen beech leaves
A fawn stepped out of the thicket and made its way to the hide
The shot broke through the twilight and the roast for the neighbour was secured
If you don't want to compromise on gun weight
Very good results can be achieved with the right ammunition
Every gram counts and you simply won't get up your mountain any lighter

The BMW Group has achieved a significant milestone in its electric vehicle production capabilities
with the first electric engine from its Steyr plant in Upper Austria being delivered to Debrecen
just ten months after system installation began
will be used in test vehicles for BMW’s upcoming Neue Klasse platform
“We’ve been delivering these engines to our development department in Munich since September
and now we’re sending them directly to BMW Group Plant Debrecen for test vehicle installation,” said Klaus von Moltke
Senior Vice President of Engine Production at BMW AG and Managing Director of BMW Group Plant Steyr
Vice President of Electric Engine Production at the Steyr facility
the team will continue refining the complex production process for the new electric motors in the coming months
This development marks a crucial step toward full series production of both the Neue Klasse vehicles and their Austrian-made electric motors
currently employs 4,700 people and produces over one million conventional engines annually
BMW announced plans to begin e-drive production at the site in 2025
The plant also houses a major development center for drivetrain research and development
BMW Motoren GmbH in Steyr ranks among Austria’s leading industrial companies in terms of revenue and exports
The expansion into electric engine production represents a significant evolution for the historic facility as BMW continues its transition toward electrification
MUNICH (dpa-AFX) - The investment company Mutares intends to reduce its stake in the engine manufacturer Steyr Motors AT0000A3FW25> following its share price rally in recent days
The move is intended to increase the free float due to very strong investor demand
which is listed in the small cap index SDax
Mutares intends to remain a major shareholder in Steyr
but expects a significant gross loss in the course of the planned sale of shares
the rally in the arms industry also affected the shares of newcomer Steyr Motors
having cost less than 20 euros at the end of February
Mutaris currently holds almost 71 percent of the shares
while the free float is just over 11 percent
an increase in investor demand can quickly lead to a tight market with sharp price jumps./mis/nas

The BMW plant in Steyr has started pre-series production of the new electric motor for the Neue Klasse
This phase should lead to series production in around a year's time
This is because the debut model of BMW's next generation of electric cars has been announced for 2025
Two years after the start of construction of the new production hall
which serves both to test the production facilities and to trial the motor produced
BMW will manufacture all the core components of the electric motor itself in Steyr and then assemble them into a complete drive system
pre-series production was due to start in July – now it is the beginning of September
this involves two new buildings – a two-storey production hall and a logistics hall
Two assembly lines for the electric drive systems
including the transmission components and power electronics
For the sixth generation of electric drive systems
BMW is bundling most of the drive components at one location
gearbox and inverter are also manufactured in Steyr
These drives will be installed in the Neue Klasse vehicles
which will be built in Debrecen from 2025 and in Munich from 2026
The Steyr plant supplies the housings for the fifth generation of electric drive systems
which will be installed in the current electric vehicle models
Assembly takes place in the company’s own electric drive production facility in Dingolfing
As the current model series will continue to be built in parallel with the Neue Klasse for a few more years
Steyr will continue to build the housings for Dingolfing
BMW can produce more than 500,000 drives per year in Bavaria
with a further 600,000 units coming from Steyr
The Steyr plant is managed by Klaus von Moltke
who – like his predecessor Alexander Susanek – is also in charge of global engine production at BMW AG
“Today we have reached an important milestone for the BMW Group’s next generation of e-vehicles
With today’s start of pre-series production of the electric engine
we are right on schedule – from the construction of the hall
to the installation of around 150 machines and systems
to the start of pre-series production of the individual components,” said Moltke
This is a brilliant achievement by the entire team at the Steyr site
together with the many suppliers from Austria
BMW had ended combustion engine production at its main plant in Munich as part of the reorganisation of drive production for the electric future
BMW still builds combustion engines in Steyr and Hams Hall in the UK
and its electric motors in Steyr and Dingolfing
The BMW plant in Steyr has shipped the first electric motors for the Neue Klasse test vehicles directly to the vehicle plant in Debrecen
It is a further step on the way to series production
“Our plant in Steyr has been delivering the first sixth-generation electric engines to the development department in Munich since September
We also recently began sending our e-engines directly to BMW Group Plant Debrecen
where they are being installed in test vehicles,” explains Klaus von Moltke
SVP Engine Production at BMW AG and Managing Director of BMW Group Plant Steyr
BMW began pre-series production of electric motors in Steyr in September. Pre-series production of the upcoming electric SUV has also been running in Debrecen since mid-November
That means that the motors installed there to date have taken the diversions via Munich described by Moltke
BMW is getting closer to the actual supply chain
we will continue to validate and optimise the complex production process for the new electric motors,” says Helmut Hochsteiner
VP of Electric Engine Production at BMW Group Plant Steyr
4,700 employees produce over one million petrol and diesel engines every year at the world’s largest BMW Group engine plant

Burning Hen Festival plays host to official launch of new range / New 80-117hp models introduce fresh look to STEYR® tractor line-up / Aimed at Europe’s most popular sector /
One of Austria’s most important rural festivals has recently provided the official launchpad in its home country for one of STEYR®’s most important new tractor ranges in a generation
which this year took place on October 12th at the Hohenhaus Tenne Schladming
is organized by Austrian multi-channel company hektar Media
It is promoted as the focal point for everyone who wants to challenge the status quo in rural areas and promote the countryside and its young people
Covering everything from agriculture and forestry to crafts
it brings together people from across the countryside
with a programme to ‘provide inspiration and motivation for all those who want to make progress on land’
It was this background that made the Burning Hen Festival the ideal event at which to officially launch the new 80-117hp Plus tractor series in STEYR’s home market
“As the first models in the STEYR range to receive new styling designed to set apart our tractors in a popular and competitive power sector
the Plus range already has four design awards to its name – the German Design Award
Red Dot Design Award and the BIG SEE Product Design Award,” he points out
we have returned a revered name to the STEYR line
replacing the Kompakt range with models that offer a 40kph 24F/24R transmission with two-speed powershift and electro-hydraulic powershuttle and standard S-Stop II
allowing one-foot drive disengagement and braking
plus more hydraulic power and mechanical cab suspension
These are the features demanded by the sort of forward-thinking people who attend Burning Hen Festival
so here was a great place to launch the Plus.”
