thick smoke was coming out of the company building
Comrade Kandelsdorfer immediately made an emergency call and directed the first arriving vehicle of the Wiener Neustadt fire department
a massive fire was detected in the showroom area of the commercial business
A breathing apparatus team entered and began firefighting
The forces that arrived a few minutes later took over the ventilation of the fire room and assisted in firefighting and further inspection. The area around the showroom was severely affected by the intense heat and enormous smoke development
the batteries of an energy storage system affected by the fire kept reigniting
which is why the incident commander called for a tub to be filled with water
The batteries removed from the melted cabinet were submerged in it
the batteries still had more than 400 degrees Celsius after the firefighting
so this was the simplest solution for us," explained Fire Director Christian Pfeiffer."The rapid deployment of the fire department prevented the fire from spreading to the planning offices
The server room - as it currently appears - also seems to have remained intact thanks to the quick and professional response
which means our planning and processing activities can likely be resumed quickly," the present managing director of the affected company thanked the fire department
"The hazard detection system installed by the company detected and reported the fire
The managing director acted correctly and checked
after which the fire department was alerted
the fire would probably have been discovered much later
and thus only when the building was fully ablaze," said Pfeiffer

The Turk was found guilty of murder and drug trafficking in the jury trial
According to the Wiener Neustadt Regional Court
the verdict is not final because the public prosecutor's office did not make a statement
The 44-year-old is said to have been put under massive pressure by the later victim after a failed drug courier trip
The defendant reported threats that he should either hand over 300,000 euros or the family's supermarket
He testified that at a scheduled meeting in a cinema parking lot on September 24
then "hit the gas" and "in a panic" fired twice
The victim - also a Turk - died on the spot from a shot through the heart and lungs
The alleged shooter was arrested shortly before 7:00 a.m
in Röszke at the Hungarian-Serbian border on a European arrest warrant and extradited to Austria in May 2024
At the start of the three-day trial on February 18
He admitted to a drug trip and the killing
The 44-year-old was acquitted of the charge of raping an acquaintance
The demanded handover of the family business was a topic at a trial at the Wiener Neustadt Regional Court on February 5
A 34-year-old accomplice of the deceased was sentenced to two years in prison

The Lower Austrian state parliament will pass a legislative package against radical Islam in its session on Wednesday
criticized this in press conferences on Tuesday
stating they will only agree to the planned changes in kindergartens
The parliament will also once again address the new construction of the Wiener Neustadt hospital
for which significantly higher costs of 1.47 billion euros are now planned
"Integration refusers have no place in Lower Austria," emphasized ÖVP club chairman Jochen Danninger in a statement: "With the action plan against radical Islam
we are once again pioneers among the federal states." It is important to "counteract a parallel society and prevent radicalization," explained state parliament member Martin Antauer (FPÖ) in a press conference: "We must start early to anchor values in kindergartens and schools."
the opposition only positively evaluates one of the five planned changes - the one regarding kindergartens
the obligation of parental cooperation is to be expanded
In the case of repeated violations - for example
if the mandatory parent-teacher meeting is refused - a report to the district administrative authority is threatened
The penalty framework will be increased to 2,500 euros
a substitute prison sentence of six weeks is provided
kindergarten operators can issue house rules in the future
The rest of the action plan of the black-blue state government against radical Islam "misses the reality," criticized the Green club chairwoman and state spokeswoman Helga Krismer
NEOS parliamentary group leader and state party chairwoman Indra Collini also identified "populism" and "show politics": The problem is being exaggerated instead of working on sensible solutions
such as regarding the planned ban on face coverings in the state service
"We are doing what we can as state legislators," emphasized Danninger
He announced an additional motion by ÖVP and FPÖ
in which the federal government is called upon
to enact a constitutional law with a headscarf ban for girls under 14 years of age
a stronger obligation for parental involvement is demanded
for which the federal government is responsible
The Greens also spoke out on Tuesday in favor of sanction options in the compulsory school sector
the motions demand school social work in elementary schools
and an adjustment of childcare funding for parents
Antauer criticized the federal government: "The overdue prohibition law for political Islam is being delayed
Another topic in the state parliament will be - following a unanimous decision in the state government last week - the new construction of the University Hospital Wiener Neustadt
Pölten as one of two central hospitals in Lower Austria according to the health plan
The new construction of the hospital in the "Civitas Nova" district was already decided in April 2019
an additional 150 million euros were released
Now the planned costs amount to 1.47 billion euros
"Based on the experiences of recent years and the additional functions that the health plan envisions for the location
a comprehensive adaptation of the planning mandate by the Lower Austrian state parliament is necessary," explained Danninger
The cost increase is also justified by changed legal framework conditions such as an environmental impact assessment (EIA)
Construction is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2027
with commissioning planned "at the earliest in the years 2034/2035." Originally
The NEOS criticized a "cost explosion" and "construction delay," "forgotten infrastructure such as access roads
the complete reorientation of the building
and the uncertainty of the now necessary EIA process reveal a planning disaster of the first order
caused by the arrogance and wishful thinking of those responsible and now to be inadequately concealed with medical necessities," said the pink budget spokesman Helmut Hofer-Gruber
He saw the political responsibility with the ÖVP
NEOS demand "more creativity in financing," for example through "Public Private Partnership" models for the underground car park
The Greens advocate for another alternative site review

18 October 2024 – The ACA audited climate change adaptation action in the cities of Wels and Wiener Neustadt
In Austria, around 70 per cent of the population live in or around cities. Wiener Neustadt is more severely affected by the impacts of the climate crisis than Wels, as regards very hot days, for example, and it is occasionally one of the hottest spots in Austria.
The city of Wels is planning to partly unseal and expand its “Volksgarten” public park from 2025, which will cost around EUR 15 million. The plan aims at demolishing old exhibition venues close to the city centre and replacing them with a smaller, more modern venue; in addition, adjacent parking areas are to be unsealed and become a park covering around ten hectares together with the area of the “Volksgarten”. According to the ACA, this project could serve as a model for other cities.
Due to the climate crisis, the frequency and intensity of heavy rainfall events will increase. In view of the flood events of September 2024, the ACA stresses the importance of preventive protection measures. Wels planned two flood protection projects, which should be continued.
In the audited period, the cities of Wels and Wiener Neustadt took many individual measures to adapt to climate change. However, given the worsening climate crisis and the widespread risk of heat islands, the ACA believes that there is still much to be done in order to sustainably ensure the population’s quality of life in the face of changed climatic conditions.
The ACA recommends that the cities of Wels and Wiener Neustadt assess the medium- and long-term financing requirements of climate change adaptation measures and make financial provisions for them, as these are expensive and will pose big financial challenges to cities and municipalities in the upcoming years. According to a study from 2020, nationwide expenditure on adaptation to climate change will double to EUR 2 billion per year until 2050, assuming medium warming.
WIENER NEUSTADT, Austria (March 25, 2021) – The U.S. Men’s National Team continued its positive run of form with a convincing 4-1 victory against Jamaica on Thursday night in an international friendly played at Wiener Neustadt Stadion in Austria.
Sparked by a stunning debut goal from left back Sergiño Dest in the 34th minute that pierced the Jamaica bunker, the USA also added second-half goals from substitute Brenden Aaronson and Sebastian Lletget – who bagged his first brace in a U.S. jersey – to extend its unbeaten run to eight matches. The USA is now 7-0-1 throught the last eight games, the longest unbeaten stretch under head coach Gregg Berhalter.
The night also saw several other firsts: the first international assists for midfielder Yunus Musah, forward Josh Sargent, forward Nicholas Gioacchini and midfielder Luca de la Torre, along with forward Jordan Siebatcheu’s international debut.
While dominating possession for the entire game, the Americans showed confidence in finding teammates in tight spaces all over the field, but a sturdy Jamaican defense did well to limit threatening chances, getting in front of shots and forcing 10 total corner kicks. The USA eventually outshot Jamaica 28-9 for the match.
One of the better chances for the USA came at the quarter hour mark when Giovanni Reyna found Josh Sargent near goal, only to see his shot from close range well-defended and deflected just wide of net. Christian Pulisic and Lletget also made a positive number of runs forward, with the best chance coming on Lletget’s curling shot from 22 yards that went wide right of goal.
Jamaica’s most dangerous chance of the first half came almost 30 minutes in. Kasey Palmer’s free kick from the edge of the box hit the wall, and his second chance shot made its way through goal mouth traffic but was easily handled by U.S. goalkeeper Zack Steffen.
The USA finally broke through with a fantastic solo effort from Dest. Taking a ball from Musah just past the midfield line, the 20-year-old dribbled the ball forward at pace before losing his defender with a quick cut into the middle and then ripped a curling shot from 28-yards that sailed past fully stretched Jamaica goalkeeper Jeaden White and into the right corner. After having scored his first two La Liga goals for Barcelona this past weekend, this was Dest’s first USMNT goal.
The Americans started the second half with quality chances from the jump, with Aaronson forcing a save within the opening minute. Aaronson then nearly set up Reyna with a perfectly weighted pass into the area. Reyna’s attempted chip was saved by White, and his second chance shot went just wide.
Keeping the pressure up, Aaronson doubled the USA lead shortly after, finishing off a short pass from Josh Sargent just inside the six-yard box for his second international goal and second in as many matches.
After Reyna again came close with a low shot just past the left post, Jamaica cut into the USA lead with a goal off a counterattack. Jamal Lowe shot from a tight angle near the right side of the six-yard box, deftly chipping over the sliding Steffen.
The USA then put the game away with a pair of goals from Lletget in the final 10 minutes, set up by second half substitutes Gioacchini and Luca de la Torre. Both were first-time shots from Lletget who made perfectly timed runs into the penalty area before finishing smartly.
On the first, De la Torre advanced a ball to Gioacchini at the top right edge of the area, who played a square ball to his left that Lletget first-timed calmly to the right side of the goal.
Five minutes later, de la Torre registered his first assist, setting up Lletget with a similar square ball that Lleget shot just past a sliding Jamaican defender.
The USMNT returns to the field next against Northern Ireland for the meeting between the teams in more than 70 years. The match at the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park in Belfast will take place on Sunday, March 28 at 12 p.m. ET on FOX, UniMás and TUDN.
JAM – JAMAL LOWE (ANDRE GRAY), 70th minute: Jamaica cut into the USA’s lead on a play that began and ended with Lowe. With USA pressure near midfield, Lowe played a ball forward to Andre Gray, who patiently waited for Lowe to continue his run before giving him the ball back inside the penalty area. From a tight angle, Lowe chipped a ball past the onrushing Zack Steffen to bring his side to within one. USA 2, JAM 1
USA – SEBASTIAN LLETGET (NICHOLAS GIOACCHINI), 83rd minute: The USA effectively put the game away with Lletget’s first score of the night. Kellyn Acosta played Luca de la Torre right of center, who advanced the ball forward to Nicholas Gioacchini on the right edge of the box. Gioacchini registered his first MNT assist with a square to his left that Lletget first-timed past the diving White from 17 yards out. USA 3, JAM 1
Today’s Starting XI had an average age of 23 years, 243 days and 17 caps while representing clubs in five different countries: Germany (3), USA (3), England (2), Spain (2), Portugal (1)
Both Christian Pulisic and Josh Sargent made their long-awaited returns for the USMNT. Prior to tonight, Pulisic last appeared in the Concacaf Nations League away match at Canada on Oct. 15, 2019. Sargent’s last run-out for the USMNT came about a month later, when he bagged two goals in the team’s 4-0 win against Cuba to round out Nations League group play on Nov. 19, 2019 in the Cayman Islands.
Zack Steffen captained the USMNT for the fourth time tonight. He last wore the armband in the 0-0 draw with Wales on Nov. 12, 2020 in Swansea.
John Brooks and Aaron Long partnered in central defense for the third time tonight. The veteran defenders also helped the USA win each of their previous matches together – a 1-0 win against Ecuador on March 22, 2019 and 4-1 Concacaf Nations League win against Canada on Nov. 15, 2019.
With today’s start, Kellyn Acosta, Sebastian Lletget and Aaron Long have played in the USA’s first two matches of the year, including the 7-0 win against Trinidad & Tobago on Jan. 31 in Orlando.
The youngest player on the roster, 18-year-old midfielder Yunus Musah earned his first career assist and third cap in his first game since committing permanently to the USMNT on March 15.
Fellow 18-year-old Gio Reyna also earned his fourth cap. Late last year, the Borussia Dortmund attacker scored his first international goal at Stadion Wiener Neustadt, putting home the USA’s opening goal via a direct free kick in the 6-2 win against Panama on Nov. 16, 2020.
Jordan Siebatcheu, wearing his mother’s maiden name “Pefok” on the back of his jersey, made his first career appearance for the USMNT.
Defender Chris Richards now has two career caps, with both appearances coming at Stadion Wiener Neustadt. He made his debut off the bench to close out the 6-2 win against Panama last November.
Substitutes Luca de la Torre earned his first career assist and second cap in his first USMNT appearances in nearly three years. He made his debut off the bench in a 2-1 loss to Ireland in June 2018.
Gregg Berhalter has a 16-5-3 record as USMNT head coach and is 2-1-0 against Jamaica.
The USMNT is 17-3-8 all-time against Jamaica. This was the first time the two sides met on neutral soil.
Tonight’s game was a rematch of the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup semifinal on July 3, 2019 in Nashville. Weston McKennie opened the scoring and Christian Pulisic delivered a second-half brace in the 3-1 win against the Reggae Boyz.
With the USMNT dressing 23 players, three players did not dress tonight: defender Matt Miazga, midfielder Owen Otasowie and forward Daryl Dike.

After two treatment centres in Germany failed, gaining from the experience and failure in others
this €200 million MedAustron project will be one of four ion therapy centres worldwide to offer treatment with protons as well as carbon ions Ion therapy is considered a great beacon of hope in cancer care – especially for tumours with no hope for a long time
So far around 70,000 patients worldwide have received radiotherapy with ions
This includes treatment with protons as well as carbon ions. ‘This therapy is physically very different from conventional photon radiotherapy and is characterised by increased
relative biological effectiveness,’ explained Professor Ramona Mayer
‘The specific physics of the ray allows an even more targeted application of the dose to a certain tumour area
or tumours in close proximity to radiation-sensitive organs, will particularly benefit from this procedure which is the ideal complement to chemotherapy and surgery in these cases.’
‘The accelerator at MedAustron will basically work just like the world’s largest particle accelerator, the LHC
used for the recent big bang experiment at CERN,’ explained Dr Bernd Mosslacher, Managing Director of MedAustron. ‘The design which originated from the so-called Proton-Ion Medical Machine Study (PIMMS) is based on a synchrotron
a circular accelerator with a circumference of around 80m
which accelerates the particles to high speeds.’ 40 MedAustron staff members spent several years working at CERN on the conception of the particle accelerator facility
Dr Mosslacher: ‘We’ve definitely not experienced the technical problems that created so many difficulties in those centres
In hindsight it was the right decision that we didn’t bank on cooperation with industry but with a scientific research centre like CERN
The economic pressure associated with a purely commercially driven facility is obviously a lot more intensive than with our infrastructure project
which is to serve medicine and research.’
Apart from the combined ion therapy centre in Wiener Neustadt there is a further Italian facility under development at the National Centre of Oncological Hadron Therapy (CNAO) in Pavia
the MedAustron Managing Director reports
‘The MedAustron and the CNAO Centre are technologically similar and are both based on the PIMMS design of CERN
However, our colleagues at the CNAO will be ready to treat cancer patientsbefore us
We look at Pavia as a type of Proof-of-Concept of our own installation – if the clinical application succeeds there we are also likely to be successful.’
Further combined facilities for protons and carbon ions have been operational in Hyogo
Germany since 2009 respectively. So far only 10% of patients who have undergone ion therapy have also received treatment with carbon ions
The procedure initially underwent a long study period in Japan
under strict monitoring of the dose escalation steps
the local treatment results are tremendous, Prof
‘The procedure is basically indicated for all oxygen poor tumours situated in the vicinity of high risk organs, such as liver
The radiation exposure in the healthy tissue surrounding the tumour drops rapidly and the tissue behind the tumour is almost completely spared
‘Especially in the treatment of children and adolescents
for whom even a small dose can lead to longterm consequences and side effects, proton therapy will certainly have a bright future
such as at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis/Missouri
to scale down the particle accelerator to such a size that it will be possible to install it in a hospital
ion therapy could become much more widely established
We are therefore only at the beginning of what will be possible with this novel technology.’

AMSTERDAM – Wiener Neustadt midfielder Conor O'Brien enjoyed a monster outing as the Austrian basement dwellers revived their survival hopes with as 2-0 victory over visiting Europa League chasers Wolfsberger AC on Wednesday night
The New York native was involved in positive actions in virtually every area of the pitch
helping the hosts record a 19-9 shots advantage despite ceding 58 percent of the ball in the match
In addition to leading all players with four tackles and four pass interceptions to routinely spring the Blau und Weiß counter attack
O'Brien took the desperate occasion to pull the trigger on a game-high six shots
After O'Brien saw his effort from near the spot well-blocked in the 19th minute
the American began setting up his cannon from long range
his blast from distance was shoved out of the bottom corner
He would later buzz the frame from 25 yards and have a second rocket kept out of the corner by a diving save in the span of four early second-half minutes.
O'Brien worked without a foul while adding five clearances
lifted the club to within three points of the last safety slot with two games left to play
The former Chivas USA forward applied the finish to a lightning break after just three minutes for his 20th goal of the season
The strike pulled Romero level with Shirak's Jean-Jacques Bougouhi in the race for the league scoring title
He also boosted his total across all competitions to 25
joining Jozy Altidore and Aron Johannsson as the only Americans to reach the quarter-century mark in a single European top-flight campaign.
the championship was the 14th in club history and first since 2010
the Phoenix earned a ticket to the Champions League first qualifying round
Alihan Turgut's German remains rough at best
more than 25 years after he came to Austria from Turkey
Mayor Klaus Schneeberger says that makes him someone "we don't need" in what will soon be the refurbished market area
Austria — Alihan Turgut has dished out falafel for more than a decade to the townsfolk of Wiener Neustadt
But “Kebab Ali” now stands to lose his stand at the main marketplace — and with it his livelihood
Turgut is paying the price for something that he says has not previously been a problem: His German remains rough at best
Mayor Klaus Schneeberger says that makes him someone “we don’t need” in what will soon be the refurbished market area
Local politicians have seized on Turgut’s lack of German in denying him a stand and banning him from setting up anywhere else in the downtown district of their city south of Vienna
Turgut belongs to an earlier group of “guest workers” and subsequent generations who arrived well before the unprecedented migrant waves that Europe now is wrestling with
They initially were expected to return home after doing the menial work that the citizens of economically growing Western Europe considered below them
many “guest workers” decided to stay
and those who trickled in over subsequent decades
were mostly on their own as far as integration is concerned
courses on socially acceptable behavior and job training that EU nations are offering their new arrivals nowadays
town fathers are depicting Turgut as a poster boy of a “parallel society,” loyal to Ankara
that sometimes resorts to violence on Europe’s streets in support of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his drive for greater powers
the government is tightening rules on demonstrations
while Austrian news and public affairs programs reflect growing concerns about where loyalties lie
A much-watched TV talk show last week was titled “Austro-Turks for Erdogan: Does the new homeland not count for anything?”
But Turgut appears more a political football than part of a fifth column
A white apron spanned over his expansive belly
he trades quips in mangled but understandable German with customers lined up for a schnitzelburger or a kebab

German Grand Prix rider Benjamin Werndl is making headlines with his newest Grand Prix horse
At the 2018 CDI Wiener Neustadt in Austria on 29 - 31 March 2018
Werndl swept the GP Special tour in a field of 14 combinations
Daily Mirror is a 14-year old Westfalian gelding by Damon Hill out of Fiedergirl II (by Florestan)
He was first started as a youngster by Berit Schunk and briefly competed by Nicole Onken and Hans Peter Mohr
before Saskia Lieben Seuter began campaigning him in 2013
Holga Finken took over in 2014 and brought the horse to Grand Prix
One year ago Swiss owner Flora Keller decided to move her horses to the Werndl family
who are based in Aubenhausen in the south of Germany
Werndl made his CDI debut half a year ago at the CDI Lambrechtshausen in September 2017 and also took him to Donaueschingen and Lier
they struck gold and won the Grand Prix with 71.913% and the Special with 73.255%
"Daily Mirror felt great," Benjamin told Eurodressage
Of course there are still things to improve
But especially the piaffes were much better
I think I found a way that he feels more comfortable in the piaffe."
Werndl and Der HitWerndl also brought along his long-time GP horse Der Hit for the freestyle tour and placed third and second with him. He further rides the 9-year old Oldenburg gelding Famoso (by Farewell III x Welt Hit II) amongst others for owner Flora Keller
who is the half sister of former international dressage judge Beatrice Burchler-Keller
Beatrice sponsors Benjamin's sister Jessica von Bredow-Werndl
"Jessi and I are really lucky to have such great supporters
All their horses are keepers," Werndl said when asked if his horses are for sale
"My plan for Daily Mirror this season is to still improve
Famoso and Sandokan will both go in the Louisdor Cup."

The 2017 European Under 25 Champion Lisa-Maria Klössinger and her top mount FBW Daktari have made a seamless transition to the senior ranks scoring a double victory at the 2018 CDI Wiener Neustadt in Austria on 29 - 31 March 2018
Klössinger brought her two Grand Prix horses to Austria
The 13-year old Baden Wurttemberger bred Daktari (by Donautanz x Carpaccio) she entered in the Grand Prix freestyle tour and with the 11-year old Oldenburg bred Quam Libet (by Quaterback x Lauries Crusador xx) she rode in the Under 25 division
Daktari dominated the small group of 8 combinations in the Grand Prix with 70.652% and won the Kur with 76.775%
"Daktari felt very secure in the test," Klössinger told Eurodressage
"In the Grand Prix I just wanted to ride a safe test and in the freestyle we could risk more
Ten riders contested the Under 25 classes in which Lisa Maria and Quam Libet finished 6th in the Intermediaire II (66.559%)
third in the Short Grand Prix (66.487%) and seventh in the freestyle 62.900%)
Wiener Neustadt was only their third CDI together in two months time
They won it all at the CDI Nice and Ornago
"Quam Libet does not have that much routine and he was very impressed with the indoor," she explained
"We had many careless mistakes but I think we are on the right way with him
He has a lot of quality and always wants to do everything right."
Klössinger's first claim to fame came as a young rider when she won team gold and double silver at the 2014 European Young Riders Championships. At the time she was trained by Ulla Salzgeber. The rider then experienced a competition burn-out and decided to sell her Daktari through Rudolf Zeilinger
convinced her to keep Daktari and in 2017 the pair rose from the ashes as a phoenix
winning the 2017 European Under 25 Championships as well as the 2017 Piaff Forderpreis Finals
Klössinger and Daktari2018 has brought a fresh wind and a new direction for Klössinger who has made further changes in her life over the winter
She is now steadily working with Italian based Irish Grand Prix rider Anna Merveldt and recently spent a 6-week training session with her in Italy
Lisa Maria fell in love with Merveldt's training style during a clinic in Munich and decided to commit to her as a coach
which is very convenient and the training with her is a lot of fun," said Lisa Maria
"Spontaneously she asked me to come to her yard in Italy for several weeks for training and for some national and international shows."
With a Bachelor in sport and event management from university in Munich
she has decided to relocate from Sara Marburg's yard to a new facility
She and partner Philipp Mücke are now slowly deciding on their professional future
"Gestüt Fichtenhof offers me more capacity of boxes and is very close to my apartment in Munich," Klössinger explained
Currently I have different job offers and different opportunities for my future career
I can not confirm that I start my self-employment with Philipp Mücke
but Philipp is still in his master's degree
We are planning different things together..We will see what the future will bring

Given all the attention paid to composites use in the Boeing 787
it is easy sometimes to forget that those who build general aviation (GA) aircraft not only embraced composites long before the major airframers
but also continue to do so in ways unheard of in the big planes
adhesive bonding and nondestructive testing abound in the GA environment
all developed with the goal of making these craft as efficient
no GA aircraft manufacturer is more committed to composites use than Diamond Aircraft
it has pushed the composites envelope to manufacture a line of single- and twin-engine aircraft for a variety of uses
ranging from pilot training to commuting to surveillance
the company has developed a creative suite of materials
assembly methods and aircraft architectures that enable it to easily mix and match manufacturing solutions for a variety of aircraft types
says this push-the-limits culture flows down from CEO Christian Dries
whose intentionally high-risk/high-reward environment is designed to drive innovation
but it is very innovative,” Bausek says
CW’s visit required travel to Austria
to the small town of Wiener Neustadt (population 44,000)
where Diamond Aircraft spans a multi-building campus adjacent to the single-runway Flugplatz Wiener Neustadt Ost (Wiener Neustadt East Airfield)
the fledgling airframer first manufactured the HK36 motorglider
then combined the two companies under the name Diamond Aircraft Industries in 1996
which focuses on engineering and manufacturing
Diamond Aircraft operates two manufacturing facilities in China via joint ventures
Diamond Aircraft’s first product was the DV20
the company rolled out its single-engine DA40 and twin-engine DA42 — planes that eventually put the company on the general aviation map
most of Diamond Aircraft’s manufacturing — as many as 150 aircraft per year
depending on portfolio mix — is split evenly between single-engine and twin-engine aircraft
comprising three models: The single-engine
The early DA40 composites structures are all glass fiber
The later DA42 structures are a combination of glass and carbon fiber
and the more recent DA62 is all carbon fiber
as a fraction of each plane’s finished weight
explains the material and manufacturing philosophy that shapes Diamond Aircraft’s composites fabrication operations
Its overriding principle is that of common platform architecture
the wings of all Diamond Aircraft products are fully interchangeable
the company has a stable of fuselage designs and horizontal flight-surface designs that can be mixed and matched
number of engines and the aircraft’s intended use
the DA40 and the DA42 have the same fuselage
just a different nose section and a different midsection
This gives us the ability to produce more parts out of the same tool,” Bausek points out
He notes that it also limits the mold inventory “and keeps our manufacturing pricing more attractive in terms of cost for the end-user
That means we try as much as possible over all aircraft to use common parts.”
on the DA40 and DA42 (but not the twin-engine DA62)
uses adhesive bonding only to join composite structures
This is done to minimize the need for drilling that might weaken composite structures
and to save the weight associated with metallic fasteners
This means Diamond Aircraft has become highly adept at bondline verification
“It is not easy to certify a fully bonded aircraft
but we have never had an aircraft structure failure caused by bondline failure.”
Diamond Aircraft also emphasizes simplicity of design
equipment and technology to give the pilot a comfortable and manageable flying experience
combined with easy customization of features and aircraft color
which eases repair and replacement and reduces cost of ownership
the company’s operations are very much characterized by its manufacturing systems
which revolve around “wet-preg,” which is the process of applying mixed resin to dry fiber immediately prior to layup
This is called lamination at Diamond Aircraft and it is done for all larger parts automatically
the latter of which is accomplished with in-house developed fiber impregnation machines
Bausek says Diamond Aircraft primarily employs five material/manufacturing combinations
depending on the location and physical and mechanical requirements of the structure:
•Hand lamination/automated lamination with vacuum bag
•Automated lamination with vacuum bag in a pressure chamber
•Automated lamination with vacuum bag and medium heated pressure chamber (autoclave)
The process limits greatly the shelf life of the wet-preg
which means that plies must be laid up as soon as they are impregnated
but the quality of the finished structure meets the company’s needs well.
Bausek begins the plant tour in the company’s cutting and kitting area
which features a film-covered floor and film-covered cutting tables
wet-preg comes into this room following impregnation by hand or automated means and must be hand cut
Bausek says the company is researching automated cutting solutions for its in-house manufactured wet-preg
but the technology readiness level is not high enough yet for serial production
are laid up in the cutting area immediately after they are cut
Ply schedules associated with each mold specify which material to place where and specify periodic quality-control steps to check accuracy
Bausek notes that Diamond’s common platform concept is operative here
one mold can be used to make parts for several different aircraft
fiber orientation and/or thickness vary by aircraft type
Making sure that a layup meets the requirements of the intended part is critical
“We must make sure the right material is used for the right aircraft,” he sums up
Carbon fiber is supplied to Diamond Aircraft by Toho Tenax Europe GmbH (Wuppertal
Germany) and Mitsubishi Chemical Carbon Fiber & Composites (Irvine
A carbon fiber/aluminum weave or a carbon fiber/copper weave is used for the lightning strike protection layer
The epoxy resin for all of Diamond Aircraft’s parts and structures is supplied by Hexion (Columbus
including a “legacy” epoxy still used on the DA40 and DA42
Bausek says Diamond Aircraft has enjoyed a long relationship with Hexion
which has been a partner to the company since 1997
Hexion technical personnel are frequently at Diamond’s facilities and provide support for all aspects of composites manufacturing
Bausek leads the way into an adjacent room where parts too large for the cutting/kitting room are laid up
a wide variety of molds and other equipment are in several stages of production.
Of particular interest is the lower shell of a DA42 mid-section
which features a spar bridge that connects the wings to the plane’s primary structure
Part of this structure includes the landing gear rib
which will better show cracks if it is damaged
a technician is working on an engine reinforcement structure and has applied adhesive paste to the mating surfaces in advance of bonding
The longest mold in the room is for the main wing C-spar for a DART 450 (Fig
It is one of the few resin-infused parts at Diamond Aircraft
its process employs a Membrane Tube Infusion (MTI) resin flow promoter (manufactured by DD | Compound
Bausek says this C-spar represents the company’s most complex and labor-intensive layup
“The know-how here is the injection point,” Bausek says
Bausek points out a full DART 450 wing spar structure (two C-spars) in a bonding fixture (Fig
The spar is part of a “wet” wing
meaning that aircraft fuel will be stored inside the wing structure
CW watches as one of Diamond’s in-house-built Automated Laminating Machines (ALM
top left) applies Hexion liquid epoxy to 60-inch-/1.52m-wide carbon fiber laminates
which are then cut and immediately applied by a team of technicians that is working on — and in — a large DA62 half-fuselage mold
the mold will be bagged for pre-cure in a heating room at temperatures around 45°C
Bausek says it takes about 6 hours to lay up one half of a DA62 fuselage
the manufacturing process Diamond Aircraft employs depends on the part’s structural requirements
With vacuum bagging of the laminate material
More void-free molding processes are used for spars
“Everywhere that we need very low porosity and high quality,” Bausek explains
infusion or medium-heated pressure chambers are used
The only bonding paste Diamond Aircraft uses is a modified form of Hexion’s legacy epoxy resin
Bausek says this is applied primarily by hand and only occasionally via automated methods
would like to move toward more automated paste application
but that would require a material that has more consistent viscosity characteristics
must be easily accessible for external interrogation and assessment
which is performed with a BondMaster ultrasonic bond tester
Diamond Aircraft also uses traditional tap testing
It also considers tap testing not unlike ultrasonic testing: “Same principle
which is performed with an HG Grimme SysTech GmbH (Wiedergeltingen
with another two available via part manipulation
the interiors of the wings are fitted with rubber liners for fuel contact
tails and fuselages come together for final fitting
after which they are sent to post-cure at 120°C for 6 hours
which is done in one of three paint booths
electrostatic discharge coat and then final color coat
all composite structures move on to final assembly (Fig
where the plane’s noncomposite components — windows
propellers (wood core with glass fiber skin)
landing gear and de-icing systems — are integrated to realize the final aircraft
Bespoke features ordered by customers are usually added here as well
DA40s and DA42s are assembled on one side of the assembly area
goes through five hours of production flight testing before customer delivery.
manufacture and assembly of Diamond Aircraft planes will migrate out of Austria and toward the company’s other facilities
DA62 production was moved to Diamond Canada in October 2017
the Wiener Neustadt facility will focus more on research and development and low-rate production
Says Bausek: “Diamond Aircraft Industries
high-performance general aviation products
and will continue to help make general aviation the automobile of future.”
The final stop of CW’s Diamond Aircraft tour was a walk out of the final assembly line and onto the tarmac
where a DA40 and a test pilot waited to give us a demonstration flight (Fig
The captivating 45-minute flight took us up to
the snow-capped peaks of the Alps surrounding Wiener Neustadt
seven-seat DA62 is the most recent entry to the market from general aviation specialist Diamond Aircraft (Wiener Neustadt
which has from its inception applied composites to the primary structures of its aircraft
Diamond Aircraft also produces the single-engine DA40
the twin-engine DA42 and the DART 450 single-engine trainer
Coming later this year is the single-engine DA50.

Hexion has a long history as a supplier of epoxy and onsite technical support to Diamond Aircraft’s composites manufacturing operations
2: Wet-preg the material format of choice
Wet-preg plies for Diamond Aircraft composite structures are impregnated either by hand or by machine but all are currently cut to precise size by hand prior to layup
The company’s wet-preg material has proven difficult to cut using automated ply-cutting systems
although investigation continues into ways and means to do so
particularly in a series production environment
Infusion of the DART 450 C-spar is one of Diamond’s most technical
Production head David-Alexander Bausek calls it the company’s most complex
labor-intensive layup and says managing resin flow during injection is the key
he uses a Membrane Tube Infusion (MTI) resin flow promoter

One of the unique aspects of Diamond Aircraft’s composites fabrication operations is the use of this in-house developed Automated Laminating Machine (ALM)
Although the use of wet-preg limits fabric out time
it reportedly enables production of high-quality
6: Seven axes of post-mold forming freedom
CNC machining at Diamond Aircraft is performed with an HG Grimme SysTech GmbH (Wiedergeltingen
It offers 5 axes of freedom at the spindle
with another 2 axes available through manipulation of the part itself
The CW tour of Diamond Aircraft concludes with a 45-minute aerial tour of the towns
Alpine countryside and Alps surrounding Wiener Neustadt.
Diamond Aircraft: Color and aircraft composites
Paint color has been the topic of much research at Diamond Aircraft (Weiner Neustadt
the company wanted to differentiate the craft in the market by offering a variety of color options
the sun can heat a plane’s structure while it sits out on the tarmac to more than 70°C
which exceeds the specified limits of many epoxies
including the legacy Hexion epoxy used on the DA40 and DA42
The effect is a possible weakening of the structure that could result in failure during takeoff
It’s important to note that such failure would require that the plane experience a 3.6G event while at that elevated temperature
still must be dealt with from a design and manufacturing perspective.
There are two ways to overcome the potential loss of composite structural strength
the company’s head of production: Increase the composite laminate thickness by adding plies
or change to a higher temperature resin matrix
the better the performance.” Changing the resin matrix has its own risks because it requires a change in manufacturing processes to accommodate a different cure profile
which led to the application of Hexion’s RIM epoxy system on the DA62
and enabled the company to offer the plane with the desired range of light and dark colors
as he worked to earn his pilot’s license
one of the tests he had to pass was to pull a plane out of an intentional spin
after he regained control of the plane and landed
he discovered that only five rivets still held the wing in place
“From that day onward,” he says
“I was very reluctant about airplane structure
the less confidence I had in airplanes.”
when he founded Diamond Aircraft and started manufacturing them
safety became the company’s guiding principle
“were best for that.” Thus was launched Diamond Aircraft’s push toward the development of composite materials and structures that best provide safety and economy
As a testament to the advantage conveyed by composites
Dries points to his company’s DART 450 two-seat trainer
which went from concept to first flight in a mere 367 days
“This is only possible because of composites,” he argues
years ahead of its competitors and “10-20 years ahead of the regulatory authorities.” This makes aircraft testing and certification a challenge
“Composites are the ideal material for airplanes,” Dries insists
Dries expects the Wiener Neustadt facility will evolve to focus exclusively on research
with serial production done at other Diamond Aircraft plants
Today those are located in Canada and China
but Dries plans to add two or three other facilities in the coming three years
personnel will continue to innovate — with composites and other technologies
and improved radar and camera technologies
Outside of aerospace but still within composites
is working on new photovoltaic solar panel technology that uses a flexible glass fiber composite membrane
“We are looking for opportunities to solve other problems,” he says

Laut Insidern hatte man in Regierungskreisen kalte Füße bekommen

Prince erlangte international traurige Bekanntheit
