Players participating come from locations the likes of Cherbourg, Gladstone and Ballina. Former North Queensland Cowboys-contracted fullback Hezron Murgha, who won the 2014 Intrust Super Cup-NRL State Championship double with Northern Pride, will play in this memorial team alongside 2024 Ipswich Jets Mal Meninga Cup centre Amaziah Murgha and the man they dub 'Superman' Roderick Duncan. This memorial team has been participating in the Queensland Murri Carnival since 2014, and will this feature include players such as Aiden Suhan, Joey Alberts, Drew Robinson, Harold Mosby and Todd Gorringe. The team hails from Palm Island, 70km north of Townsville. It is Bwgcolman to the Traditional Owners, the Manburra people. Typically one of the contenders at the pointy end of the competition in recent years, this team has players from everywhere between Cairns to Kempsey. The team mostly hails from the Sunshine Coast in Kabi Kabi country, home of the Bunyi Bunyi. Undumbi is the name of the clan within the Kabi Kabi nation, meaning salt and freshwater people. The Murri Gummaz have stepped up after winning the under 17 competition at the 2023 Queensland Murri Carnival and the Mackay Indigenous Carnival last year. Players are coming from mostly northern Queensland, including various outer islands in the Torres Strait, across Cape York Peninsula, Cairns, Yarrabah, Palm Island, Townsville but some are coming from as far south as Sydney to participate. He said Fowler shot his aunt 'several times' with a handgun registered in his name. It is understood the family have lived in the home for more than 20 years.  'There had been an altercation, was our initial information,' Supt Williams said. 'So far the investigation has revealed that the male person was the son of the unharmed female in the house. 'At this stage of the investigation, it appears that the male person, who had a registered firearms licence, has used a handgun that was registered to him to discharge a number of shots which has killed the 77-year-old female. 'He then used the firearm on himself and was deceased at the scene.' Fowler's 88-year-old mother was treated at the scene for emotional distress and is now assisting police with their investigation. 'This is a tragic incident and we are assisting the family to the best of our ability,' Supt Williams said. 'Police had attended the scene a number of times and had dealings with both parties in the preceding week.' Supt Williams would not be drawn on whether Fowler's handgun should have been forfeited after police were called to the home earlier in the week. Earlier, Queensland Police assured the public there was no ongoing threat to the community. The house appeared to have been boarded up and covered with what appeared to be aluminum foil.  One neighbour said there was 'always someone at the front' and that he often heard verbal altercations. 'One is always yelling at one another,' he said.  'There is always junk everywhere. The air conditioner is always running and there was foil on the windows.'
