The distillery has announced two decade-old single malts under its Man O'Words and Man O'Sword brands
Annandale Distillery has announced the first public release of two 10 Years Old age-statement whiskies
The single-cask bottlings are Annandale Man O’Words 10 Years Old Fresh Ex-Bourbon Cask #125 and Annandale Man O’Sword 10 Years Old Fresh Ex-Bourbon Cask #69
It was revived in 2014 by Professor David Thomson and Teresa Church
who worked with the late Dr Jim Swan to design the updated distillery using Swab's signature twin copper spirit stills
The distillery produces two types of whisky in single-cask releases: Man O'Words
its unpeated range named for poet Robert Burns; and Man O'Sword
a peated spirit which pays homage to King Robert the Bruce
Thomson reflected: “Our primary motivation when restoring Annandale Distillery was to reintroduce the tradition of single malt scotch whisky to the south of Scotland
The ambition became to not only revive the distillery but to elevate it beyond its former glory
we are incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved
We’re excited to have the flexibility to release remarkable age statement single cask
each offering true distinction across a variety of casks
single malt the simplest way of making whisky but
The new 10-year-old releases were both matured in ex-bourbon casks from Buffalo Trace Distillery in Kentucky
Annandale says the unpeated Man O'Words has notes of stewed apple
while the peated Man O'Sword has flavours of vanilla
Annandale Man O’Words 10-Year-Old Fresh Ex-Bourbon Cask #125 (58.8% ABV
RRP £110) and Annandale Man O’Sword 10-Year-Old Fresh Ex-Bourbon Cask #69 (57.9% ABV
RRP £110) will both be available from 27 March 2025

A woman made a lucky escape after a fire tore through her Annandale home early this morning but heartbreak struck as one of her dogs didn’t make it out
The garden, designed by the late Peter Fudge, was a key element of a 2012 renovation. It features a full-width covered terrace for outdoor dining and a wonderful selection of mid-height trees to provide shade in summer. This leafy retreat would inspire artists of all persuasions.

There’s a large, old frangipani, a Japanese maple, and an old magnolia, as well as clipped hedges and forest pansies that charm with their heart-shaped, burgundy leaves. A pair of built-in sunloungers on swivel arms are perfect for reading a book or stealing an afternoon snooze, and there are two sets of built-in benches plus a built-in barbecue.
On the far side of the garden, you’ll find a self-contained studio that garnered several awards for its architect, Welsh + Major. Comprising two adjoining pavilions, sheltered beneath a pair of pitched concrete canopies and connected by a glazed corridor, the studio comes with huge glass sliders that can be opened up to the elements, effectively creating an outdoor room.
Heading back to the main house delivers just as many delights. Built in the 1890s, the front of the home preserves the best features of the late Victorian era, from the marble mantels to the decorative plasterwork, high skirtings and picture rails. The ceilings soar to 3.4 metres, and there are polished tallowwood floors.
Three of the four bedrooms have built-in wardrobes, and the main features a built-in dresser with a Carrara marble top. The marble theme continues in the skylit en suite, which features a twin vanity and a rain shower.
The back room, redecorated by design team Arent & Pyke, hosts the light-filled living spaces. Poplar burl veneer has been used on the island bench cabinetry and banquette seating, and marble and stainless steel add to the eclectic palette.
Appliances include a Siemens induction cooktop and Miele wall ovens. A built-in bar table at the end of the island bench allows for chats with the cook.

“This home really casts a spell on you – sitting in that back room looking over the garden is just divine,” Simon Pilcher of Pilcher Residential says.

revealing his involvement in a newly opened Chinese restaurant in Sydney’s inner west
is located in the Empire Hotel on Parramatta Road in Annandale
With Calombaris originally recruited by Public Hospitality and Linchpin now managing Public-linked venues
the Empire and Noah’s Backpackers at Bondi
Linchpin’s chief executive Terry Soukoulis has had to bat away conjecture that Linchpin is linked to Public
“I can categorically deny it [that it is owned or controlled by Public],” Soukoulis says
He confirms that backing for the group has come from a foreign bank
which Soukoulis says can’t yet be named but will be revealed later
Soukoulis also points to properties such as Kings Cross bar Dulcie’s and The Emerald Room in Darlinghurst as venues Linchpin now manages
which were never part of the Public Hospitality portfolio

Calombaris oversees the food as Linchpin’s culinary director
The menu does not play to his signature Greek cooking
taking some unusual cross-cultural zigs and zags
with a barbecue pork pizza and crispy tortillas used in its version of prawn toast
‘What the hell do you know about Chinese food?’ ” says Calombaris
“We’re doing proper Aussie old-school Chinese food
But I’ve surrounded myself with good people
Calombaris says the Australian Chinese style of restaurant has a nostalgia that resonates with diners
That nostalgia translates to some classic throwback dishes such as lemon chicken and sweet and sour pork
“We thought it was the perfect fit for the community,” he says

A driver who allegedly made an illegal U-turn in Annandale last Thursday (April 24) turned out to be wanted for homicide
Cameron Alexander Anderson was taken into custody at the intersection of Medford Drive and Lucerne Lane around 8:25 p.m.
An officer observed the improper U-turn and conducted a traffic stop before learning that the 19-year-old was wanted in connection to the 2023 shooting death of a 16-year-old outside of a Maryland high school
Anderson was one of four teens arrested after Jayda Medrano-Moore was shot and killed blocks away from Duval High School in Prince George’s County
A fight broke out between two groups of students as Medrano-Moore walked home from school with her brother, police said. Medrano-Moore was shot after attempting to appeal to the gunman, WUSA9 reported
Prosecutors said that Anderson, who was a student at a nearby high school, did not fire the fatal shot, but they claimed he provided the gun and ammunition used in the incident
In September, the teen accused of firing the weapon was acquitted on a first-degree murder charge

reckless endangerment and use of a gun in a violent crime
Anderson faces charges in Maryland for first-degree and second-degree murder
which carry potential sentences of decades — and perhaps life — in prison if there’s a conviction
he was held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and served a warrant charging him with a felony for being a “fugitive from justice,” the FCPD says

AnnandaleWe’re building a new multipurpose sports field next to Chapman Road and The Crescent parklands in Annandale
CompletedWorks started in July 2023 and were completed in March 2024. Find out more about the new field
The field’s durable synthetic surface means training and play can take place in all weather
especially when wet conditions stop play on the grassed surface at nearby Jubilee Oval
We’re working to increase the number of playable hours and the variety of play surfaces for different sports facilities across the local area to meet the growing needs of our communities
Our current population is more than 250,000 people
By 2031 we’ll need the equivalent of 20 more sports fields to meet the sport and recreation needs of our residents
This location for the synthetic sports field has big support from local sporting groups and is close to public transport links
In 2021, we also rebuilt the playground and skate park in nearby Federal Park
These projects are part of our Johnstons Creek masterplan
which will create a ribbon of parklands around the Glebe Peninsula
