Opposition Leader Peter Dutton’s electorate office in Brisbane has been defaced with graffiti overnight
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton’s electorate office in Arana Hills
has been targeted by vandals who covered the windows in red and yellow graffiti
The graffiti is written in spray paint and covers the walls
SkyNews.com.au contacted Mr Dutton’s office
with a spokesman saying the vandalism contained messages regarding US and Australian politics
“Kamala bowed to the right and the moderates,” the scrawl said
"Learn your lesson Labor: Actually do something for your voters or Dutton will get them!!
Radio host Bill McDonald for 4BC Brisbane broke the news on Friday morning and said it was hard to make out what the vandalism meant
but that it was “quite a significant” amount of property damage
“It’s pretty disturbing that this sort of stuff happens in this day and age but that’s the world we live in at the moment,” he said
Mr Dutton is not the first MP to have their office vandalised this year
with Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen and NSW Premier Chris Minns among the list of politicians whose government buildings have been defaced in protest at Labor's perceived inaction on the war in Gaza

Echo News is delighted to announce the launch of Claire’s Cottage Street Library and Community Pantry at Ferny Hills
this initiative was born from the hard work and vision of the cottage’s NDIS participants and their Support Workers
they transformed an old chook pen into a place where everyone—regardless of their abilities or circumstances—can seek help and comfort
The Street Library offers a collection of books to those who may not have easy access to them
Claire’s Cottage invites any and all community members to participation in this book swap initiative and connect with each other through the joy of reading
Whether you are discovering the magic of stories or just seeking your next good read
the pantry is also a resource for those in need
providing sustenance and support during challenging times
The goal—to ensure nobody in our neighbourhood goes hungry
It’s a simple yet powerful way to uplift our community
ensuring that everyone has access to basic necessities
was initially a social program enabling adults with disabilities to engage in activities they chose
it has grown into a robust day program operating throughout the week
focusing on developing life skills often overlooked in larger programs
including in-home support and short-term respite
The program focuses on helping their participants assimilate into the community and be seen as valued members of society
They aim to develop independent living and social skills
Through tasking their NDIS participants with the challenge of creating the Community Pantry and Street Library
Claire’s Cottage has made true all three of these aims
comments on having the pleasure of witnessing the pride and satisfaction on the faces of participants as they contributed to this project over the past couple months
From measuring and painting timber to decorating and organising the space
they have proven that people living with disabilities can make significant contributions
Julie invites you all to donate books and non-perishable food items to the Street Library and Community Pantry whenever possible
spreading the word locally will help ensure that those in need can benefit from these resources
Thank you for your support in helping Claire’s Cottage continue to serve our community with unwavering compassion

Forming social connections during retirement is important
as it provides a sense of friendship and support for retirees and that’s what Probus is about
The newest Probus Club in Queensland is Arana Hills & District Probus Club and was formed on 16th June
The new club was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Mitchelton
The Foundation meeting was attended by almost eighty people
including members of the sponsoring Rotary Club
Fifty-seven people signed up to be members on the day
including the President and President Elect of the sponsoring Rotary Club
‘Most attendees indicated that they became aware of the meeting through the advertisements and media release in the Echo Community Newspapers.’
A further twelve members have been added during the first fortnight after the meeting and highlights the need for Probus in the area to assist in reducing isolation and loneliness felt by many seniors in the community
Probus is a not-for-profit and also a non-fundraising organisation dedicated to helping retirees and semi-retirees meet new friends
enjoy an active retirement lifestyle and have fun
Club meetings will be held on the third Thursday of each month from 10am to noon at the Arana Hills Leagues Club and interested retirees and semi-retirees are welcome to attend
Due to the recent storm activity and excessive amounts of rain
the Arana Hills Library has received some issues with the roof on the building along with minor flooding
This in turn has resulted in the closure of the library for a few days so crews could ‘tarp up’ the roof as a temporary measure in order to get the library up and running again
The library is due to receive a major refurbishment in April after the school holidays which includes replacing the roof
however it is good to see the library up and running again

“The mix of standard format and community title lots contributes to a diverse and attractive built form
integrates with the street and surrounding neighbourhood
and provides for privacy outcomes that will maintain the amenity of adjoining properties”
“The overall scale of development is consistent with the low to medium density residential character intended for the area

Exciting times are ahead with another of our local parks receiving a little bit of TLC.
Ground works have already commenced for the upgrades to Pine Hills Park which will include; the construction of a car park, footpath into the park, installation of playground equipment, along with a new entry point via Francis Road installed. A concept map with more details is below.
Once the playground is complete, it may seem very familiar to many locals. This is because the play equipment once sat at the old playground at Leslie Patrick Park in Arana Hills (which is now the Town Green). As the play equipment was relatively new, and passed all the safety checks, it made sense for Council to reuse the equipment locally which is great to see!
Other improvements in this project include completion of the missing footpath link along Francis Road from Bunya Road to the Fire Station.
Weather permitting the project is expected to take around 6 weeks to complete.

The Nulty Way stairs at Arana Hills are somewhat of an institution
with many locals using the staircase nestled amongst the eucalypts
as part of their exercise routines or to get to and from Cobbity Crescent and Plucks Road
the 75 metres of staircase will be receiving a face lift to bring it up to speed with modern infrastructure standards
Improvements will include new pedestrian stairs
making the staircase safer and more accessible for locals to enjoy even more
a short section of retaining wall at the top of the stairs and the adjoining footpaths at the top and bottom of the stairs will be added
Construction is due to begin in late October and will take roughly six to eight weeks to complete depending on the weather
The construction team is expected to be on site between the hours of 6am to 5pm
Here is a bit of local history on how these stairs came about
‘At the request of the local progress association in August 1985
a pathway was constructed between Cobbity Crescent and Plucks Road
it was named “Nulty Way’ by the Progress Association

12 April 2022 | Tennis Queensland
It started with days upon days of relentless rain that had no intention of stopping
From Maryborough to Northern New South Wales and everywhere in-between
the one in one-hundred-year weather event quickly replicated scenes seen a mere eleven years ago during the 2011 floods
the straw that broke the camel’s back was a deluge that saw the creek behind the club break its banks and disperse a meter of water across the entire venue
Pure Tennis Ferny Hills Pro Shop Manager Leanne Lauder says
Everyone here pours their heart and soul into this club.”
“We all had a little cry together once the water receded and revealed the true damage.”
Like so many Queensland and Northern New South Wales communities impacted by the floods
the centre was overwhelmed by the amount of help and support they received as they began the mammoth cleanup
“We put the call out for help on Monday after the flood waters subsided and we were absolutely blown away by the support we received from the local community
There were utes and people everywhere within the hour!”
“We had so many members of the club and community show up and get their hands dirty
the Arana Hills Fire Brigade and Volleyball Ferny Hills lend us a hand.”
our amazing cleanup crew managed to get most of the courts cleaned and close to operational.”
This galvanizing of not only the tennis community but the local Ferny Hills community is a true testament to the team at Pure Tennis Ferny Hills and how well respected they are both on and off the court
Support stretched far and wide. ‘Smalls’ the artist who recently painted a mural of 2022 Australian Open champion Ash Barty at the Centre
drove up from the Gold Coast to help with the cleanup and to touch up the mural
it was important to become operational again to provide a safe space and a sense of normality for their members
Albeit on condensed courts and makeshift venue solutions
everyone was incredibly grateful to be back on the court
Pure Tennis Ferny Hills are still facing a long road to recovery with some club facilities and courts set to be out of action for months
The club is looking forward to holding a community BBQ later this month to thank everyone for their efforts during the floods and to celebrate the wonderful community spirit displayed by Ferny Hills locals
Rallying of community and volunteers was not unique to Pure Tennis Ferny Hills with numerous impacted tennis facilities reporting overwhelming community support from locals
“We have heard remarkable stories about the community rallying around our impacted clubs to support each other through the toughest of times
We had coaches offering up courts to neighboring facilities that had been impacted and many offers of assistance,” said Tennis Queensland General Manager
and Tennis Queensland is here for the road to recovery
Our team have and will continue to work with impacted clubs to support grant applications
provide equipment and support facilities in getting back on court.”
This is but one of many amazing stories of community spirit, if you or your tennis club have an ace story you wish to share we’d love to hear it. Please get in touch via email – [email protected]
The listed Charter Hall Retail REIT has snapped up Arana Hills Plaza and an adjoining Shell petrol station in Brisbane from superannuation fund-backed ISPT for $67.1 million
The Arana Hills purchase reflects a capitalisation rate of 6% and will be earnings accretive in fiscal 2017

the trust’s portfolio value will be $2.57 billion and it has flagged a move to owning larger assets
The 14,355sqm centre is a strongly performing convenience based shopping centre anchored by Coles
a freestanding Aldi and the petrol station
It has also 23 specialty tenancies and car parking for 822 vehicles
The centre also has potential for future development
Charter Hall Retail REIT fund manager Scott Dundas says the group is reducing its exposure to freestanding and smaller neighbourhood assets in order to acquire larger
“Arana Hills Plaza is strategically located in the fast growing metropolitan Brisbane suburb of Arana Hills and provides the dominant supermarket anchored offering within its trade area,” he said
The asset sales allowed the trust to turn off its distribution reinvestment plan for this half
JLL’s Simon Rooney and Jacob Swan brokered the sale
“We continue to see a depth of institutional investor interest in strong performing sub-regional shopping centres
with strong trading characteristics and secure tenure,” Rooney says
The sub-regional sector is on track for another significant year
with $2.1 billion worth of transactions recorded for 2016
albeit below the record $2.8 billion in 2015
JLL says there has been yield compression of 40 basis points in the sub-regional sector over the 12 months to the end of September to an average of 6.61% nationally

Wests Arana Hills moved into equal first spot alongside Burpengary Jets in the Rugby League Brisbane Open 1 men’s competition
with a convincing 44-12 win against Redlands Parakeets played at Kev McKell Oval on Saturday
boasting former Brisbane Broncos players Josh Hoffman and Korbin Sims and coached by former Queensland Maroons winger Jharal Yow Yeh
were simply too classy for the unlucky Parakeets side
things looked ominous early on for Redlands when Jack Walters regathered a chip 'n' chase to cross under the sticks
a towering bomb from Panthers halfback Elijah Whickham saw the ball dropped by the Parakeets 10 metres out from their line
The ball was regathered by the clever halfback
Reliable Panthers winger Keanan Yow Yeh wasted no time in adding his name to the scoresheet
crossing in the 22nd minute of play after some superb downfield kicking by Whickham
they refused to cave in and it was their big men holding the fort in defence as best as they could against the red-hot Panthers
Forwards Lexus Greening and Toby Chapman were outstanding on a losing side and fought to the bitter end for the baysiders
the Panthers were in no mood to take the foot off the throttle and their next try was a cracker
Speed demon Ray Newell’s 70-metre intercept was breathtaking to watch
as the winger put the afterburners on to outrun the Parakeets defence to score what was a superb solo effort
Former New Zealand international Hoffman was the catalyst for the Panthers next try scored right on halftime
The classy fullback opened up the Redlands defence to find replacement Evan Young
who crossed beside the sticks sending the home side into the break with a commanding 28-0 lead
With only three minutes of play under way in the second half
inched his way down the sideline to cross for his second of the afternoon
it was the Panthers big boppers making the easy yards through Sims
who put the home side in good field position for their next try
The experienced Whickham delivered a beautiful pass to his centre Thomas Robertson who crashed his way over the line to see the home side edge out to a 38-0 lead
With the Panthers playing a man down due to a sin binning
the Parakeets saw an opportunity in the 56th minute when Josh Damen noticed an overlap out wide and sent in centre Alex Graham for the visitors' first try of the afternoon
Back-to-back tries for Redlands through halfback Hersom added some respectability to the scoreline
but it would be the home side having the last say when Walters crossed under the sticks right on the fulltime hooter
