There are possibly more areas, however we have only been in the area since last December. I have reported my concerns to Optus who informed me that we have excellent service that was proven incorrect when they attempted to contact me away from my wifi. They told me that nobody had complained about the service and they have no plans to upgrade their services until they have more complaints. In my talks with other people it’s not just Optus that has poor reception. I feel it’s time for both our members of parliament and telcos to come here and see firsthand that the service is pathetic. The Bullsbrook COVID quarantine facility opened on Thursday night for evacuees forced to flee their homes after the blaze swept through the suburbs in the previous 24 hours, causing overnight chaos on Wednesday night. Firefighters are still facing challenging conditions, with a forecasted maximum of 35 degrees Celsius on Friday as Perth has sweltered through an unprecedented November heatwave. Residents at a community meeting were told the fire was still "highly volatile", with a wind change set to push the fire back on itself towards the south-east. David Kreitling saw fire on either side of his home on Mariginiup Road in Mariginiup and believes it could be one of those lost. David Kreitling and his daughter Leanne have been sheltering at the evacuation centre in Quinns Rocks. (ABC News: Kenith Png) His chickens were also killed in the blaze, and he said a nearby strawberry farm had been destroyed. "I lost at least two sheds and I'm not sure of the house. "When I Ieft, [the fire] was very fierce and I virtually had to go because the lamp posts were on fire. "I left the house and there were fires on both sides and I believe my neighbour's house is gone. "All you can do is cross your fingers and hope." The roof of this house crumpled like tin foil as the blaze swept over Perth's northern suburbs. (ABC News) Earlier on Thursday, WA's Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti said conditions had been very challenging and there had been "significant damage". A strawberry farm was destroyed by the blaze. (ABC News) "I can confirm at this stage 10 homes have been lost along with four sheds … and numerous infrastructure," Ms Saffioti said. "The forecast for today is unforgiving. Today will be a difficult day for everyone involved." A ring of fire has scarred the landscape next to Lake Jandabup. (ABC News) DFES confirmed several firefighters had been injured in the dangerous conditions, suffering smoke inhalation and heat stroke. Aerial vision has shown a number of houses and sheds in the area badly damaged, and farm machinery burned. About 540 homes remained without power on Thursday night and 100 transmission lines had been impacted. Aerial footage taken from a helicopter on Thursday afternoon showed the blaze was still threatening properties. (ABC News) Premier Roger Cook was due to arrive back in Perth from China on Saturday morning, but is cutting the trip short slightly as a result of the ongoing bushfire emergency. Mr Cook is now booked to land in Perth on Friday afternoon, when it’s understood he will be whisked straight into briefings on the unfolding situation. DFES commissioner Darren Klemm said it was likely to be several days before the fire could be extinguished. A neighbourhood cat watched the fire unfold from Carramar. (Supplied) He said said several firefighters had suffered relatively minor injuries, including two who were caught in "burnover" events. About 150 firefighters were battling the blaze that started on Wednesday in Mariginiup, assisted by the state's large helitanker and a number of planes and helicopters. The fire appears to have swept through a number of houses and sheds north of Perth. (ABC News) Mr Klemm said there were currently 65 other fires burning across the state and managing resources was proving challenging, while Ms Saffioti left open the possibility of requesting the assistance of firefighters from other states. The huge bushfire has swept through large swathes of land in Mariginiup. (ABC News: Andrew O'Connor) Tapping resident Alan told ABC Radio at least three houses had been lost in his area. "I'm probably 700 metres from Pinjar Road which is where the fire was," he said. "I'm not sure if we lost any houses in between, but we came under a fairly heavy ember attack around 10.30pm—10.45pm. Around 120 firefighters fought the blaze overnight. (ABC News: Andrew O'Connor) "There were a couple of people who kicked the doors in notifying people. Thankfully there was nobody home, So no injury, no loss of life or anything like that. Just property damage." More than 1,800 hectares of land have been burnt so far. DFES chief superintendent David Gill said rapid damage assessment teams were working to confirm the extent of property damage. A fire truck races along Pinjar Road in Perth's north. (ABC News: Andrew O'Connor) "Working in heatwave conditions, firefighters ... [were] working incredibly hard to arrest the forward rate of spread of this fire," he told Perth ABC Radio. "Really difficult conditions, very challenging conditions for firefighters to operate." Mr Gill said the fire had slowed down and crews were working to strengthen containment line around the perimeter of the blaze. A heatwave warning has also been issued, as Perth faces another three days of temperatures above 35 degrees. More than 1,000 properties in the bushfire area were without power at one point, with at least 150 people spending the night at an evacuation centre set up at the Gumblossom Community Centre in Quinns Rock. The blaze was visible from an apartment complex in Joondalup, several kilometres away. (Supplied) An animal evacuation centre has also been set up at Wanneroo Showgrounds, and the State Equestrian Centre in Brigadoon is also taking in horses and ponies from properties hit by the fire. Tapping resident Alan Johns, who stayed back to protect his home and others, said embers fell like rain across the neighbourhood. "It was not fun. The wind was spreading red bullets at you as you were trying to fight embers," he said. "It was hitting the house it was hitting the roof." Tapping resident Alan Johns fought to save his house from bushfires overnight. (ABC News: James Carmody) He said the large trees in nearby bushland played a major role in spreading the fire. "The big ones would get lit up and all of a sudden the embers would go however many feet… It was just ridiculous watching them go over your head," he said. "The trees behind me, the biggest one, when they lit up it was just like the Statue of Liberty." Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Jess Lingard said a combination of factors made conditions difficult for crews on Wednesday night. "The set up at the moment isn't great. It's hot, it's dry, it's windy. It's the trifecta of terrible conditions for fires," she said. The fire in Mariginiup has burnt through areas of market gardens. (ABC News: Andrew O'Conoor) Ms Lingard said a deepening trough across Perth and surrounding areas would likely mean conditions would remain the same for the next few days. "We've got until early next week until we start to see anything significantly changing to winds," she said. Stacey Hughes, who was evacuated with her two young children Wednesday night, witnessed a property burning. "200 to 300 metres away was the nearest fire. It was insane," she told ABC Perth Radio. "There are tall trees in the area and it was taller than the trees. And then further down the road there were trees on fire with branches falling off onto the road. A fire burns perilously close to house in Perth's north. (ABC News) "We saw what looked like a building, whether it was a shed or a house, on fire as well." Cecilia Pham and her family were evacuated from the emergency warning zone overnight. "I was in the house with the baby nursing her, and then I heard helicopters," she said. "Oh my God water bombs, helicopters above us, I'm feeling like 'is that war?'" In Banksia Grove, Lucy Wrenn watched on her security cameras as the flames came dangerously close to her family home. "I was watching on the screen and trying to keep updated. Mum was next to me and she said 'I don't want to know'," she said. "I said, 'it's at the house'. "Literally two seconds later, two firemen ran down that street, had their hoses and sprayed the house and it just backed off … it was scary seeing how close it had travelled that fast." Fellow Banksia Grove resident Lennon Power, aged 10, watched the fire as it approached his family's house. Lennon Power saved his prized football from his home in Perth's north after bushfires tore through the Banksia Grove area. (ABC News: James Carmody) "It was crazy. It got closer and closer until it was right on top of our house, and the police came and told us to go, and we had to drive to our friend's house," he said. Lennon said his priority during the evacuation was saving his AFL football. "Because Dusty [Richmond's Dustin Martin] gave it to me and signed it at a footy match. He's my favourite player," he said. Tapping resident Denise Crooks said embers were raining down on on her street just before she fled her home on Wednesday. "Frightening. It's a big fire, and it's throwing embers everywhere," she said. "We just put all the sprinklers on and hoped for the best. Two teenage girls accused of attacking a man with a knife as they stole his mobile phone during a Facebook Marketplace meet-up will remain in custody after acting “out-of-control” after their arrest, with one refusing to take part in her court appearance. Prosecutor Catherine Shade said the youths, aged 13 and 15, had used a fake Facebook account to reply to a 43-year-old man’s ad to sell his iPhone, asking him to come to an address in Banksia Grove on Sunday afternoon to complete the deal. She told the Perth Children’s Court on Monday that when the man arrived, the 13-year-old girl was standing at the edge of the property waiting. “[The girl] snatched the phone and ran in a westerly direction to meet up with [her co-accused] who was standing in a driveway holding a large knife,” Shade said. “The complainant chased them ... and it’s alleged [the 13-year-old] swung a knife twice at his head, causing lacerations ... the [other girl also] swung a knife twice at his head, causing lacerations.” The pair then fled but were arrested hours later at another house where police allegedly recovered the man’s iPhone, as well as bloodied clothing and a knife. The 15-year-old will appear on July 14, which is the same date she is due to be sentenced for unrelated matters. Another two men, a 53-year-old man from Landsdale and his 24-year-old son from Wanneroo, were also shot but survived. Detectives have said Mr Finnerty and the two injured men had links to an outlaw motorcycle gang. Today Major Crime Squad Detective Inspector Mark Fyfe said the shooting incident did not begin as gang related. "There was a dispute involving property that wasn't involving gang members," he said. "A confrontation developed which then involved gang members." Detective Inspector Fyfe said the shooting had inflamed tensions between two outlaw motorcycle gangs, the Rebels and the Coffin Cheaters. "The Gang Crime Squad is addressing the rising tensions between these two gangs," he said. "In relation to the offender or offenders, I do not believe they are a threat to the community in general." Detective Inspector Fyfe said it was understood only two people were involved in the original argument over property, neither of them victims of the shooting. "Tragically Mr Finnerty, a 23-year-old father has lost his life for something he wasn't not originally involved in, but became involved in," he said. "We're still trying to establish how [the three victims] came to be involved." He said police had been unable to confirm how many people were at the address, with conflicting witness reports confusing the issue. Police also believe a burnt out car, found in a nearby suburb, had been involved in the altercation. Two types of shell casings found at the house led police to conclude two guns were fired, but Detective Inspector Fyfe said officers were unable to confirm who the gunmen were. "At the moment, eight confirmed shots," he said. "I know someone fired shots, I know there was a Rebel member there. "I'm still trying to establish who fired the shots. "I know that both gangs were present and I know that tensions are now heightened because of what's happened." Another two men, a 53-year-old man from Landsdale and his 24-year-old son from Wanneroo, were also shot. They underwent surgery in Royal Perth Hospital but have since been released. Tributes have been paid to Mr Finnerty on social media. "Rest easy Mitch, sorely missed by all your family and friends xxxxxx," one friend wrote on Facebook. "RIP Mitch Finnerty. We will make sure your son knows who you were and how much you loved him and his mummy xxxxxxx," another friend said. The two injured men have not yet been named by police. On Wednesday, detectives said all three victims had links to an outlaw motorcycle gang. They were among a group of seven people at the house when the armed man arrived, with the shooting taking place in the driveway and the street. However police said they were yet to establish a motive or the identity of the gunman, and the search was continuing. Police have appealed for anyone who has information about the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers. The men were shot outside a house in Cassia Link in Banksia Grove.
