Five teenagers have been arrested after allegedly stealing cigarettes from two Croydon locations before running rampant across the eastern suburbs.
Police believe the teens allegedly stole cigarettes from a Dorset Road service station and a store on Mount Dandenong Road, as well as attempting a burglary at a service station on Bayswater Road in Bayswater North around 9.30pm on 10 February but the offenders were disturbed by a staff member and fled. No threats were made and there were no injuries.
Officers spotted the allegedly stolen white Range Rover Discovery, which was said to have been used in these earlier incidents, driving erratically on Capital Avenue in Glen Waverley about 11pm.
The car was stolen from the Albert Park area on 8 February.
The Range Rover was followed from Glen Waverley through multiple suburbs by Air Wing, Operation Trinity units and uniform police on the ground.
A short time later, the occupants dumped the Range Rover in Wantirna.
They allegedly attempted to steal a vehicle at the intersection of Burwood Highway and Stud Road but were unsuccessful.
The teenagers allegedly stole a Ford Focus during an aggravated carjacking on Stud Road, where the driver was threatened with a knife.
The driver was not physically injured during the incident.
The teenagers fled in the Focus towards Box Hill and stop sticks were successfully deployed.
The car came to a stop on Belmore Road in Mont Albert North where the five male occupants fled on foot.
Four boys from the Dandenong area, aged 13, 14, 15 and 16, and a 15-year-old boy from the Moorabbin area were all arrested nearby.
They were taken into custody and will be interviewed by Maroondah Crime Investigation Unit detectives.
Operation Trinity has been specifically targeting burglars and car thieves each night since March 2023.
The operation, which runs from dusk until dawn across Melbourne, is easily Victoria Police’s most well-resourced operation.
On top of standard patrols, there are another 70 police including members of the Dog Squad, Public Order Response Team, and Air Wing, specifically tasked with preventing and responding to burglaries and car thefts each night.

Bayswater North properties among city’s hottest marketsPeter Farago
Kew is among the Melbourne suburbs where homes are selling much quicker than a year ago
Properties in patches of Melbourne are being snapped up in just 17 days
as budding homebuyers look to pounce on quality homes quickly
New PropTrack figures reveal a cluster of outer east suburbs as the city’s fastest-selling
where properties spend are listed for an average of fewer than three weeks
Mount Evelyn and Woori Yallock spent on average between 17 and 22 days on the market before a buyer emerged

:Postecoglou looks to boot Melbourne digs
Why Aussies supermarkets are going ‘bougie’
Other areas that are among the states fastest-selling are Doreen
which PropTrack economist Angus Moore said was a sign that people were chasing affordability
“We are seeing homes in more affordable areas sell a bit quicker,” Mr Moore said
“And we’re also seeing that prices have held up a bit better typically than in more expensive parts of the city
“That’s consistent with the fact that interest rates have risen very quickly
which has made affordability a lot tougher for a lot of buyers
And so they’re looking in more affordable areas.”
Unit and apartments tend to take longer to sell
with the fastest-selling suburbs at Pakenham
PropTrack has also revealed the areas where days on market have decreased the most in the past 12 months
in the Macedon Ranges had 27 days shaved off its average sale duration
homeowners in inner eastern Kew saw nearly two weeks slashed from their time on the market
Buyers were also acting faster in Cheltenham
where the average 30-day campaign was 12 days fewer than last year
while Glen Waverley and Keilor East had dropped by seven days
hit the market this week with price hopes from $900,000 to $990,000
Mr Moore said these suburbs were among the small number of areas where sale times were decreasing
“Across Melbourne in the past year it’s taken about 40 days typically to sell a home and about 45 days regionally
“It’s no surprise that homes are taking longer to sell than a year ago
as property markets were obviously very hot then,” Mr Moore said
“But what we are seeing today is homes are still selling quicker than they were pre-pandemic.”
PropTrack economist Angus Moore says the new data shows that Melbourne could see faster home sales coming up
Mr Moore said with Melbourne home values stabilising and rising in the past few months
“We might start to expect buyers to be a bit more competitive and stock might start moving a bit quicker than it has been.”
Barry Plant Lilydale director Ashley Hutson said price point was leading buyers to leave suburbs closer to the city
“We had opens on Saturday with in excess of 40 groups through for anything between $800,000 and $1m,” he said
tidy family homes with three or four bedrooms
two bathrooms or a downsizer on its own title.”
He said buyers had sold up apartments or family homes in Ringwood
Mitcham and Vermont to come further out where the value for money was better
“We’re getting retirees and first-home buyers who have grown up further in but can’t afford to buy where mum and dad live
Kew agent Nick Whyte said the demand for homes in the inner-east private school belt was heightened due to a shortage of supply
and homeowners saw time on market cut by almost two weeks this year
“Kew and Hawthorn is a sort of a bulletproof area that even when the market tightens up people still want to get into that private school belt,” Mr Whyte said
“What we’re seeing is that demand has remained
and that’s meant that we’ve maintained multiple bidders on most properties that have gone to market.”
Mr Whyte predicted the tight listing environment wouldn’t change for some time as homeowners remained cautious about rising interest rates
“There was a correction in the market and the assumption of sellers was that was going to continue
so they’ll just stay put rather than come to market,” Mr Whyte said
so the properties that are coming to market are where the vendors are genuine about wanting to sell and move on and the market is responding well to that.”

A Dandenong South hooning investigation has uncovered a cache of guns and other weapons during raids on Thursday 2 November
A Bayswater North man and woman are facing 31 charges each
including setting a trap to cause serious injury
Dandenong Achilles Taskforce officers allege the outer fencing of the pair’s address was “deliberately manipulated” with hundreds of metal nails to inflict serious injury
The investigation started with an alleged hoon event in Licola Crescent
It led to an early morning police raid at the Anderson Close
as well as handgun ammunition and shotgun cartridges
• An ounce of white powder believed to be cocaine
The 21-year-old man and 23-year-old woman were arrested and charged with offences including possess unregistered handgun
possess loaded firearm with reckless disregard for safety
unlicensed person fail to store firearms and ammunition in a secure manner
12 counts of possessing a prohibited weapon
and knowingly dealing with proceeds of crime
They were bailed to appear at Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on 30 April
Police expect to lay further charges will be laid in relation to the hoon driving event
“There is no doubt the community is a safer place when firearms and prohibited weapons are in the hands of police and on their way to being destroyed,” Sergeant Paul Holtzinger from Dandenong Achilles Taskforce said
“While our team is dedicated to investigating hoon drivers in Melbourne’s south-east
we are also uncovering further criminal offending as a result of these investigations and holding offenders to account.”
A 19-year-old woman and 21-year-old man from Rowville were arrested but have been released pending enquiries
A local veterinary clinic is undergoing its second investigation in 18 months
shock and horror filling a community of animal lovers
Pets Haven in Bayswater North is under investigation by the RSPCA and Maroondah Council
following accusations of cruelty to animals who have been taken to the clinic for a variety of treatments
including past staff and community members who have had experiences with the clinic have come forward to Star Mail to share their stories
One local woman adopted her white Husky dog through a fairly well known rescue company
which included immunisation and desexing of the dog
in which she received certification from Pets Haven Bayswater North
She then found her dog became impregnated by one of her other ‘puppies’
despite having certification from Pets Haven saying she had been desexed
After realising and sharing what happened in a Facebook post
the woman said she was then threatened with slander by the owners of Pets Haven
then continued to “bag” her on social media when she refused to do so
The woman approached the vet who signed the desexing certificate at AMC Boronia
and the clinic had stopped working with Pets Haven due to other cases or forgery like this
the woman’s story is one of several that have appeared over the years
in particular since the current owners took over the store in October 2021
One ex-staff member said her experience with the previous owners of the store in her five year tenure working at Pets Haven was vastly different to that with the new owners before her departure
She said the previous owners would check in with all of the staff daily
ensure the clinic had a deep clean over the holidays to start the year fresh
was much more actively attentive to the animals and would organise fostering straight away where needed
and was willing to get involved and scrub a cage to help her team
the woman said the current owners would not listen to the experienced nurses or vets
would only have one qualified staff member rostered on per shift
would leave animals in cages covered in blood and faeces before they would do a deep clean
because the clinic became so overrun with animals
Locals who interacted with the clinic for the adoption of pets have also shared terrible experiences
One local said she lined up for hours to adopt a dog Pets Haven had advertised as needing to go to another dog home
the lady behind her pushed in front and was allowed to purchase the dog – a Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Her concerns were that the woman was allowed to purchase the dog without any checks being carried out
particularly with Staffy dogs who can be hard to train and look after at times
and later found out the woman did not have dogs at home and therefore did not meet the requirements before taking the dog
she was later denied looking at other dogs bar one
was only allowed to view the dogs if she knew their name
and was denied the ability to view more than one dog
the woman said they had to purchase a compulsory kit for the cost of another $1,000 that was said to have everything purchasers would need for their dog – however in her case everything in the kit wasn’t suitable for a Staffy
Another local woman came forward saying the current owners of Pets Haven had “threatened” many who have spoken out against them with legal action
and said a number of members of the community and ex-staff have come together on social media to share their stories
These stories are just a few of the many that have been shared in a Facebook page created to share experiences as hear the ‘truth’ behind Pets Haven and their procedures
Posts have been shared with photos and videos from inside the clinic
visualising the horrors being described by locals around the community
they show large groups of puppies in cages with no food
cats in crates being stacked on top of each other for transport – sometimes being bundled in with bags of trash from the clinic
Previous staff have also shared their experiences at Pets Haven under the new owners before their departure
even accusations of bullying and belittlement within the workplace when on shifts
Pets Haven Bayswater North are now undergoing investigations following accusations of animal abuse and neglect
which is the clinic’s second investigation within 18 months
The clinic was raided seven times in February last year
with fears that many cats and dogs in its care were close to death in their care
It is understood that no charges were laid by the RSPCA following the investigations last year
Michael Stagg said the investigations have come in response to a report received on Friday 15 September
“RSPCA Victoria Inspectors attended a premises in Bayswater North that afternoon
and were again in attendance at the premises on Monday 18 September
“The RSPCA Inspector secured the surrender of five sick puppies
who were transported to RSPCA Victoria’s facility at Burwood East,” he said
As investigations are still underway for any possible offences under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986
no further comments were able to be provided
A Pets Haven representative said following the initial media reports and RSPCA issues that coincided with their takeover in early 2022
the store has done a comprehensive review and redesign of all operations
They say some of their ex-staff and volunteers
are guiding the campaign of ‘misinformation’ that has been seen in recent media articles and on social media
The representative said they are working to “align the culture of the organisation with the vision of best practice” and are calling on the community to get behind them as they battle through the current investigations and media attention
they have changed the operating model to reduce the number of seriously ill animals in care
and say they are doing their best to take care of animals in their clinic
“Many animals come to our clinic to be re-homed and it is a disappointing truth that many of these animals have not enjoyed a healthy or rewarding life prior to arriving at Pets Haven
“We regularly receive animals that are malnourished
“All of the animals we receive are provided prompt veterinary treatment
with some animals requiring urgent and significant veterinary intervention
“Pets Haven has qualified veterinary practitioners on staff who are either on site or available on call,” they said
the Pets Haven representative said they are “proud to publicly state that the euthanasia statistics have reduced by approximately 350 per cent under the new management”
“This is a clear indication of our unwavering commitment to the welfare of the animals in our care,” they said
It was stated that this data has been reported to Agriculture Victoria
The Bayswater clinic representative said as part of their ongoing commitment to animal welfare and to ensure transparency
they have actively requested the relevant nearby councils
to visit the clinic unannounced and conduct regular inspections at their facilities
no serious non-compliance issues have been identified and any feedback received are assessed and then implemented as an opportunity
“We are passionate to demonstrate our pro-life ethos and we are fighting for the life and wellbeing of every animal in our care,” they said
Pets Haven Bayswater have “opened our doors to the community“
and said they are grateful for the large number of regular visitors who support them daily
“We are proud of the work that we do with the limited resources at our disposal
we wish to expand and grow our efforts,” they said
Maroondah Council were contacted for comment on the matter
RSPCA Victoria said if anyone has concerns about the welfare of an animal
they are encouraged to make a report to RSPCA Victoria’s Inspectorate on rspcavic.org/tip-off-form/ or call 9224 2222

A “ridiculous” Bayswater auction with a dozen lucky number bids has ended with a sale more than $50,000 above the reserve
Six bidders vied for the keys to 3 Claude St, Bayswater, pushing the three-bedroom house in largely original condition to a $955,500 sale
With the auction held on the auspicious first day of the Lunar New Year
one homebuyer was determined to snatch it for a lucky sum — upping the ante a dozen times with an $888 or $777 increment
But in the end an investor claimed the keys
besting a developer with a $500 final offer
Harcourts Wantirna director Archie Mantsos said the result was “ridiculous”
The auction was held in the 983sq m property’s spacious backyard
“That’s why auctions work,” Mr Mantsos said
You could see their mentality switch to fight mode.”
Auctioneer Harry Li was still in his preamble when the first bid
The comfortable family home was built in 1962
Mr Li resumed explaining the legalities of the auction before accepting the bid
and eight bids later the home was on the market at $891,888
It took another 46 bids to round out the auction
with Mr Li enforcing a 10 second countdown as one buyer tried to stretch the process
Peter Barnett was selling his childhood home
which had been in his family since his parents had built it in 1962 and he moved in at 1 years old
The house hasn’t changed hands since it was built almost 60 years ago
“When it went over $900,000 I was just ‘wow’,” Mr Barnett said
“I didn’t think this was an auction suburb.”
He said he had been nervous about the auction right up until Thursday last week
when a well attended open for inspection had finally convinced him of the demand for his home
Mr Mantsos said while he expected the result was an outlier
it should give homesellers in the area confidence
The home’s three bedroom floorplan proved popular with a wide range of buyers
Struggling fitness chain F45 has suffered another blow with the closure of a popular branch in Melbourne
which is owned by Anthony Cselko Training Pty Ltd
has now appointed Garth O'Connor-Price and Christopher Bergin from insolvency firm William Buck as liquidators
The branch, which still says it's open on Google and charges members $60 a week, was once crowned the best studio in its division and its Instagram bio reads 'more than a gym'
The F45 Bayswater North's Facebook profile has been removed and the Instagram account is private
F45 Bayswater North has been contacted for comment
Several F45 branches across Australia have shut down in recent months
with the company also suffering a major fall in its share price
who was appointed in March this year to turn the troubled training company around
last month told Daily Mail Australia they were not fazed about reducing their network
'We are prepared to shrink to grow,' he said
'Closing unproductive locations to add value to existing studios strengthens our system
'An important aspect of our real estate strategy is to avoid over-saturation.'
which started in 2012 with one gym in Sydney
grew to having 1,555 studios and 2,801 franchises across 63 countries by mid-2021
It aimed to ultimately have 23,000 studios worldwide
Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg invested $450million in the business and celebrated its New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) float with Australian co-founder Adam Gilchrist in mid-2021
That financial backing put Mr Gilchrist - who is not the famous cricketer of the same name - on the Australian Financial Review Rich List
A year later, the 'world's fastest-growing fitness business' worth more than $2billion dollars fell off a cliff
the gym's share price collapsed from $17.28 to just $3
with the shares having traded for less than $1 since April
Some of the fitness empire's branches across Sydney
Queensland and Victoria have recently closed down
Struggling owners have even taken to Facebook to sell some of their gym equipment
The Opulent Group, one of F45's biggest franchisees, has shut down at least five gyms in Sydney, four in the southern suburbs of Kogarah, Kirrawee, Caringbah, Miranda, and one in Balgowlah, on the northern beaches.
Meanwhile, at least eight class actions have been launched in the US against F45 related to the NYSE float alleging 'possible securities laws violations and/or breaches of fiduciary duties'.

"Superbly located right on the waterfront in Shoal Bay
massive exposure and plenty of charm," O'Brien says
"This is an opportunity to create a stunning office
boutique hotel or high-end residential development within an almost century-old heritage building."
The Takapuna Boating Club was first established at Shoal Bay in 1914
the club acquired a mooring area to the west of the ferry wharf and started planning to build a clubhouse," O'Brien says
the club bought the old Irelands Tannery building in Panmure to salvage its timber
paying £350 including food and transport for the workers
club members demolished the building and barged all the timber to Bayswater
They then immediately set about building the clubhouse
"Three professional builders worked on the building week days
while club members pitched in on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons
A team of 25 men worked tirelessly to pour concrete on Saturdays
The three-storey building was finally completed after five months of intensive labour."
The site was gifted to the club by an Act of Parliament in 1926
and the clubhouse quickly became an important focal point for the local community
It was also used as a polling booth for national and local elections
The clubhouse remained popular in the 1960s as a dance hall
with regular parties hosted in the top floor loft
Patrons would catch the ferry from the city and alight at Bayswater wharf
Takapuna Boating Club hosted major regattas at Shoal Bay until the late 1960s
when the club moved to a clubhouse on Takapuna Beach
The Bayswater clubhouse has since been used as a sailing venue for learners
and an Optimist-class yacht building venue
The building adjoins a saltwater swimming pool
established by the then Takapuna Borough Council
but remains in place as it provides foundational support and erosion protection for the clubhouse
The building now has Category B heritage protection
which allows for it to be fully redeveloped on the interior while preserving its exterior
Colliers' capital markets national director Peter Herdson says the Coastal Marina zoned property is available with vacant possession
"The property is superbly positioned within the affluent North Shore suburb of Bayswater
making it ideal for a prime waterfront apartment conversion," he says
"Well-known for its relaxed lifestyle and unique village atmosphere
"The suburb is in a central position in between the prominent Takapuna and Devonport centres
Auckland CBD is a short seven-minute ferry ride away."
Herdson says the clubhouse is "a boatie's dream" thanks to its location right next to the Bayswater Marina
Fellow director John Green says Takapuna Boating Club is selling the property reluctantly as the funds required to fully restore it would be better spent elsewhere
"An Auckland Council heritage architect has visited the property and advised that redevelopment into private apartments would be a reasonable way to ensure its preservation."
