Bedford and London Scottish are two teams known for their brand of rugby and liking to entertain the crowds
spring’s day fireworks were expected
With Bedford flying high coming off the back of beating Ealing the week before and a massive victory over Nottingham prior to that
And so it proved with Bedford flying out of the blocks
throwing the ball around and scoring three early tries in the opening 15 minutes
it would be London Scottish’s up front power that would get them back into the game
two tries off the back of the maul from Austin Wallis took his side back into contention before the two teams traded scores before the break
After the break the tit for tat nature of the game continued with attack’s firmly on top and both defences struggling to gain any foothold
just after the break sparked hopes of a come back but Bedford were always able to cause trouble when they had ball in hand
A last minute pearler of a score from Tom Wilstead who picked up the final pass from a beautiful break from Josh Bellamy was the try of the day as the final score finished 61-38
An incredibly entertaining game and one where London Scottish will rue the opening quarter of an hour which put them too far behind to mount a serious challenge
Efforts now turn to a massive three weeks as Scottish take on Cambridge
a chance to climb the table perhaps but those three sides will be looking to do a number on the Exiles so it will be an incredibly entertaining few weeks

The collision took place between Junctions 12 (Flitwick) and Junction 13 (Bedford)
News | UK
The M1 is experiencing major delays to northbound traffic after a crash between two junctions in Bedfordshire earlier today
which occurred between Junctions 12 (Flitwick) and 13 (Bedford)
prompted a swift response from emergency services
Traffic was brought to a standstill as they worked at the scene
National Highways East issued a warning to drivers on X (formerly Twitter) shortly before 11am
saying: “Traffic has been stopped on the #M1 northbound between J12 #Flitwick and J13 #Bedford due to a collision.”
confirming: “1 (of) 4 lanes are now OPEN on the #M1 northbound between J12 #Flitwick and J13 #Bedford following a collision
Emergency services continue to work at scene
The crash came on the first day of the May Bank Holiday weekend — one of the busiest travel periods of the year
with an estimated 17 million journeys expected across Britain
Friday was forecast to be the peak travel day
with an estimated 2.9 million drivers taking to the roads
RAC Breakdown spokesperson Alice Simpson said: “Although the Easter break was just two weeks ago
our figures suggest this weekend will still be hectic on the roads as millions take advantage of another bank holiday
“This week’s very warm weather may not last right into the weekend
there’s still plenty of opportunity to get out and about
it’s best to avoid Friday evening as that’s when leisure traffic will clash with commuter journeys.”
She also advised motorists to check their tyres and ensure vehicles have the correct levels of oil

Andrew Bobbin enjoyed the spotlight of training Duke Of Bedford to win the Brierly Steeplechase and Grand Annual Steeplechase double at Warrnambool last week that he’s already planning on repeating the dose next year
Bobbin decided to stay in Warrnambool on Thursday night and celebrate his dashing fencer’s success and was only finding his voice again on Sunday morning
“I had a good night on Thursday night
so it was worthy of a celebration,” Bobbin said
The Grampians Racing trainer has been doing his homework since Duke Of Bedford’s amazing Grand Annual performance and has come to the conclusion that he will be best served by going for a spell
“I came back on Friday and had the horse checked out and he recovered well
He’s going to have a break,” Bobbin said
He pointed out that the last horse to win the Grand Annual and the Grand National Steeplechase double in the same year was in 2008
“The Grand National is the obvious target
but it’s likely we will give that a miss and set him to do the same next year at Warrnambool,” he said
“He’ll have a break as he’s only six-years-old
I’ve done some research on the last 15 Grand Annual winners
and the average age of the winners is eight and a half.”
“With him being only six he could only be half-way through his career if we look after him
and we can work towards Warrnambool in 12 months’ time.”
Bobbin said Duke Of Bedford would bypass the Jericho Cup as his main asset was the ground he made up in the air when he jumped
Of the 33 fences in the Grand Annual it was only the first one he put in an average one
“We will follow the path we took this year and hopefully can do the Brierly and Grand Annual double again.”
Bobbin said Warrnambool carnival aficionados told him that Duke Of Bedford’s wins were reminiscent of the John Wheeler trained Foxboy in 1997
who led throughout to win the Brierly by six lengths and then the Grand Annual by 20 lengths
“I had multiple conversations with people I respect and that’s what they said
and they told me winning like that doesn’t happen often at all
They went back to Foxboy for the comparison.”
Bobbin said he was a bit nervous at the winning post the second time when Duke Of Bedford had cleared out from his rivals
but that’s when Arron Lynch put the race to bed
“When he went up the hill the first time
but Lynchy said he never asked him for an effort and he was doing it naturally and within himself.”
Bobbin said he hoped Duke Of Bedford’s win could pique the interest of some new owners for the stable who could entrust him with younger well-bred horses
“We’ve been training for four and a half years
and we’ve trained 160 winners with mostly average stock from the second-hand sales
We’ve proved we can train winners with the best strike-rate with the jumpers,” he said
“We have the facilities for sprinters and stayers as we can keep them sound
which is the biggest challenge in the game
We can get them fit on the sand tracks here without so much concussion and we can use the Stawell racetrack just up the road where I can gallop up the road on the grass.”
“Last week was the highlight of my career
Duke Of Bedford is only in his third season
and he’s proven he’s as good as there is at that discipline
there’s more to come from him.”
This is probably not the page you’re looking for
Graham and Helen-Gaye Bax didn’t set out to breed a Brierly Steeplechase (3450m) winner
with Blandford Lodge homebred Duke Of Bedford taking out the Warrnambool feature on Tuesday
who ran fifth,” Blandford Lodge principal Graham Bax said
“He (Duke Of Bedford) is a neat little jumper and he is going along well
so he has got a bright future in front of him
“If he runs tomorrow (in the Grand Annual Steeplechase
While pleased to see his homebred victorious on Tuesday
Bax is still perplexed how a steeplechaser has been produced from the family
so how we got a steeplechaser out of that I don’t know
but you never know when breeding horses where it’s all going to end up,” he said
Duke Of Bedford is out of winning Fastnet Rock mare Miralago
a half-sister to the dam of Group One winner Danzdanzdance
Bax has been breeding from the family for several decades and he has enjoyed plenty of success during that time
“I have had that family for years and it goes way back to an English mare called Polly Soleil that I bought more than 30 years ago,” he said
“I have bred a lot of good mares out of that family
including (multiple Group One winner) Lucia Valentina
there’s a lot of good horses from that family
“It is a super family that has been performing for Blandford Lodge for a long time
we have another horse out of the family running today (Wednesday) at Canterbury called Ahuriri
Bax offered Duke Of Bedford at Inglis’ 2020 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale where he was purchased by STC Syndications for A$45,000
He went on to win one race for Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young before he transferred to Andrew Bobbin’s Stawell barn
for whom he has added another six victories to his tally
culminating in his Brierly Steeplechase triumph
“I love setting goals with races and working backwards and hitting the target
and this was one today,” Bobbin said post-race
Bobbin said he will wait until Thursday morning before deciding whether his six-year-old gelding backs up in the Grand Annual Steeplechase
“We’ll just see how that field holds up and at about 7:28am Thursday morning
I’ll probably still be scratching my head
NEW BEDFORD — Travelers using the Seastreak ferry service in New Bedford now have a new place to park their cars when they're readying to head out to sea
"We moved our parking about a week ago," said a New Bedford Seastreak customer service representative, noting the company had been told they would have to make way for riders of the MBTA's new South Coast Rail service at the Whale's Tooth parking lot at 532 Acushnet Ave
This news comes despite information released and reported in March that said the Port Authority would designate 150 spaces for MBTA passengers and 570 would remain for ferry parking
Seastreak operates ferries to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket
While it is something new for Seastreak customers to get used to, the customer service representative said the new parking — located at the Foss Marine Terminal at 180 McArthur Drive — is actually closer to the ferry dock than the Whale's Tooth lot
but it's only a five-minute walk," she said
Legal trouble: 3,700 cases could be at stake as New Bedford judge, prosecutor alleged to have had affair
With the move to the Foss Terminal also came the launch of Seastreak's new method of paying for parking. Instead of paying for a spot online while making a ride reservation, Seastreak customer service said now customers pay upon arrival by scanning one of the QR codes in the parking lot, or at the terminal.
"It's very easy — you just follow the instructions on the signs," she said.
In cases where there is parking overflow, she said, Seastreak customers may still be able to park at the Whale's Tooth lot; however, the fee will not be Seastreak's.
Sydney's Lewis Melican floors the Giants' Toby Bedford with high contact at the SCG.
Sydney defender Lewis Melican is facing a suspension of at least two weeks after collecting GWS tagger Toby Bedford high in their AFL derby win
Bedford had already tapped the ball forward when he was caught by the swinging arm of Melican in the second quarter of the Swans' 14-point win at the SCG
The Giants player passed a concussion assessment but was sent from the field under the blood rule for a cut to his right cheek
He was later substituted out at halftime with blurred vision due to the swelling around his eye
Melican could spend more than two weeks on the sidelines if the incident is graded as high or severe impact
who had checked on Bedford following the incident
I understand that it'll go through the AFL and the tribunal situation," Cox said
Lewis has probably got an immaculate record
"The way he plays his footy isn't malicious
Cox's GWS counterpart Adam Kingsley was circumspect when asked about the incident
so it's probably not fair for me to make comment on that."
Fremantle forward Patrick Voss was suspended for three games earlier in the season after he caught Richmond's Nick Vlastuin across the face with a swinging right arm
A looming suspension to Melican only adds to Sydney's injury woes

Melbourne forward Jake Melksham could come under scrutiny after nudging star Eagles defender Jeremy McGovern into oncoming traffic during a marking contest in Melbourne's 32-point win on Saturday night
McGovern cannoned into the back of Demons forward Harrison Petty
Melksham took the mark but the umpire paid a free kick against him for the push
The AFL have clamped down on dangerous pushes into traffic this year after Tigers young gun Sam Lalor broke his jaw during the pre-season
Richmond's Rhyan Mansell copped a three-match suspension earlier this season for a dangerous push on Liam O'Connell that resulted in the St Kilda defender being concussed
Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin launched a passionate defence of Melksham
adamant the incident was purely a football act
Eagles debutant Bo Allan also faces a nervous wait for his swinging arm to the head of Jack Viney as the Demons tagger took a mark
Another GIANT has reinforced their long-term commitment to the club
with speedy midfielder Toby Bedford putting pen to paper on a new four–year contract
Bedford’s new deal will see the 24-year-old remain in orange and charcoal until at least the end of the 2029 AFL season
Joining the GIANTS from the Demons ahead of the 2023 season
Bedford has quickly cemented himself as key member of Adam Kingsley’s side as both a pressure forward and more recently as a dynamic midfielder
Originally drafted by the Demons with pick 75 in the 2018 AFL Draft
Bedford played 18 games for Melbourne before making the move to the GIANTS where he’s now played 44 games in just over two seasons to become an extremely valued member of the side
Traditionally a classy small forward and one of the best pressure players in the competition
Bedford’s new deal comes following a career-best season in which he transitioned into a new role as one of the league’s best taggers
Continually able to nullify some of the AFL’s best opposition players
Bedford’s breakout campaign as a midfielder last year saw him receive the club’s 2024 Coaches Award from Adam Kingsley
Possessing a rare combination of elite speed and endurance
Bedford’s ability to play both as an extremely effective pressure forward or as a defensive midfielder make him a valuable weapon for the GIANTS
The West Australian’s signature is another resounding endorsement for the club who continue to re-sign many of its stars well into the future
with Finn Callaghan and Connor Idun both signing long-term deals in recent weeks in addition to the likes of Jesse Hogan
GIANTS Executive General Manager of Football
was thrilled to secure Bedford’s signature
“It’s fantastic to have Toby recommit to the club for another four years,” McCartney said
“We identified Toby as a really promising young player when we brought him to the club two years ago and he’s quickly repaid that faith with some really strong performances
“Over the past two years he’s been able to consistently produce in his role
and then last year as a really good defensive midfielder who exemplifies the way we want to play
“We are really proud of the culture we’ve built at the GIANTS and Toby’s recommitment to the club is further proof that not only is the club a place that our players love coming to every day
coaches and staff see as a club with a really successful future.”
The latest signing comes following a brilliant start to the 2025 AFL campaign for the orange tsunami

Strategic relationships and feedback can enhance specialty pharmacy operations
senior vice president of US pharmaceutical distribution services at McKesson
There are both quantitative and qualitative metrics that will help determine the success of collaboration between drug companies and their specialty distributors
Transcript has been lightly edited; captions were auto-generated
What key metrics should companies track to measure the success of collaborations between drug companies and specialty distributors
because there's so many different ways that you can measure success in any performance of any business in any industry
When I think about the collaborations and our strongest partnerships with manufacturer partners
I would think the key metrics really come in 4 areas
One is around supply distribution and core operations
The second would be around financial and business performance
The [third] would be about product and market awareness and reach
And the fourth would be about the strategic relationship
the metrics in those 4 buckets range from many being very quantitative on numbers that you can measure and point to success
but then there's also [metrics] that are very qualitative
because they help both partners together figure out where they need to continue to invest to meet future objectives and goals
If you think about the supply chain and operational efficiencies
they’re the things that I think most people think about first when they think about specialty distributors
How quickly do customers get their metrics
They're all pieces that are core to the business that we do today…
Next move to financial and business performance
The way that I remember when I was on the manufacturer side
some of the things that we looked at are how
How will we be able to leverage that customer base
How are we measuring the success and performance of those customers on an ongoing basis
what's our ability to quickly help support adoption in the marketplace for this product vs the competitors
there are hard metrics that I think both parties want to understand and feel
When you go into product reach and market awareness
I think that's where you start to see a mix
You've got something like your typical consumer NPS [net promoter] scores
where you can measure how we're performing to our downstream customers
because we do take that feedback to help inform and improve and better our processes to a specialty distributor to meet their needs
The feedback on the tangible things I talked about earlier on
How quickly are we getting them product to market
What are the challenges that they see when we're first bringing it
We build in organic mechanisms to the way that we do business
so we get that feedback back to make sure that we understand that our penetration in the supply chain
is we're maximizing the impact of potential that we can have
if a manufacturer partner needs to select a few specialty distributors
How are we working together to make sure that we understand what the mutual strategies and future priorities are strategically so we can invest together
and then align around go-to-market strategies to ensure that success

Bedford Art Exhibition set to take off at Adelaide Airport, Mount Gambier artists on show
Fifteen artists from Bedford’s Mount Gambier Learning and Experience Hub have created artwork for an exhibition now on show at Adelaide Airport.
Airline travellers from regional areas, together with thousands of interstate and overseas travellers will view “Through My Eyes – 80 Years of Opportunities”, with artworks located at Gates 14 and 26 of the airport.
The exhibition, which runs until the end of March, showcases the work of more than 30 artists with disability who attend one of seven Bedford Learning and Experiences hubs or work at a Bedford business.
Using a variety of creative techniques, the artists have reflected on what Bedford means to them, expressing the impact of having support and a choice to learn, connect and grow in their everyday life.
It’s the first of many events celebrating 80 years of Bedford in South Australia.
Bedford chief executive Myron Mann said the exhibition has created an important sense of connection and frien
dship, bringing together people from metropolitan Adelaide and regional South Australia through a shared love of art.
“Through artistic expression, artists have demonstrated their commitment to turning ambition into action, obstacles into opportunities and barriers into breakthroughs,” Mr Mann said.
“The exhibition acknowledges Bedford’s rich history and impact, and amplifies its purpose today, and bold vision for the future.
“We’re thrilled to kick off our 80-year celebrations with this art exhibition, which is one of many examples of how Bedford continues to innovate and spearhead major sector change, offering choice and opportunity to build skills and connection for people living with disability.”
Local artists from the Mount Gambier Learning and Experiences hub came together to create a piece titled ‘Where we all come together’.
Artist and Learning Hub client Shaun said he enjoyed the opportunity to create the artworks.
“It was really good to work together as a team to complete the art,” he said.
“The art helped me express that Bedford is the coolest and perfect place to come together.”
Adelaide Airport Managing Director Brenton Cox welcomed the collaboration.
“Bedford is such a wonderful and iconic organisation supporting South Australians with disabilities for so many years, and we were excited to offer space in our main terminal for this fantastic exhibition,” he said.
“The timing is also perfect as we both celebrate significant milestones with Bedford reaching 80 years and Adelaide Airport marking 70 years of operation in 2025.”
Bedford’s seven Learning and Experiences hubs are located at Panorama and Torrensville in Adelaide, and in Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Whyalla, Wallaroo and Mount Gambier.
The hubs support more than 400 people living with disability to live the life they choose by offering opportunities to expand knowledge, develop new skills, and connect with others in enjoyable and meaningful ways.

Lee Bircham has been Bedford Town manager since May 2023
It almost feels like a case of anything you can do
Bedford Town clinched the Southern League Premier Central title with a 2-0 win over Stourbridge in front of a crowd of 2,186
just days after Real Bedford became Division One Central champions
It is the second year in a row that both Bedford clubs have won promotion
having recently abandoned plans to merge for next season
Town will now play in National League North or South in 2025-26
the second tier of English non-league football
"It wasn't until about 10 minutes before the end of the game that we thought we were going to get the job done," manager Lee Bircham told BBC Three Counties Radio
"I think the owners have struck it lucky with what they've spent
to get a championship-winning team - I hope they don't expect more of the same because that's a one-off
"There's be a big queue of us lining up outside their door now
it'll be like a scene from Oliver Twist."
The Eagles went into the game against Stourbridge with a three-point lead over rivals Kettering Town
Ryan Blake put them ahead in the first half and Jack Davies added the second after 74 minutes to delight their fans at their The Eyrie ground in Cardington
Bedford clubs will not merge ahead of next season
Football clubs' merger 'only solution' - manager
The achievement was all the more remarkable because Bircham expressed the view in January that a merger was the "right solution" for the club because they could not compete financially at Southern League Premier level
"It's a totally unexpected promotion
There's some monster football clubs in that league and genuinely we wanted fifth from bottom
"We lost out on a lot of players (last summer) because we weren't ambitious enough but we got a few wins
changed a few players around and the momentum carried on."
who has a contract to the end of the 2026-27 season
now doubts how "genuine" the merger proposal was - but believes it worked to the advantage of his part-time team
it was a masterstroke really," he continued
The players are now set for a post-season celebration in Marbella before reviewing the situation as to what will be needed to be competitive next term
"We haven't had discussions with players about being National League
we haven't got a clue what we're going to do," Bircham added
"We're going to make it up as we go - but we have this year as well
"I'm going to try and enjoy actually getting promoted before I worry about next season
The club has worked so hard to get there and want to stay there
The National League will confirm later in the summer which division Town - who were originally founded in 1908 - will play in
the Eagles will consider themselves at home

Toby Bedford has been named in the team for this weekend’s must-win Semi-Final against the Lions at ENGIE Stadium.
Bedford is the one and only change for the GIANTS, with the tenacious tagger returning from a calf injury which kept him out of the team for the GIANTS’ last two matches.
The zippy small forward turned tagger will bolster the GIANTS’ side and could be tasked with nullifying the likes of dual Brownlow Medallist Lachie Neale, silky winger Hugh McCluggage or penetrating defender Dayne Zorko.
Bedford will return to Adam Kingsley’s team in the place of young forward Toby McMullin who has been omitted.
Two GIANTS young guns – Kieren Briggs and Finn Callaghan - will celebrate their 50th AFL games this weekend when they run out at ENGIE Stadium.

Real Bedford won the South Midlands League Division One and Premier Division titles in the previous two seasons
Real Bedford are celebrating a double promotion while talks continue about a possible merger with the town's other Southern League club

Owner Peter McCormack bought the former Bedford FC in 2021 and changed the name to Real Bedford at the end of that season
He wants the town to have a club in the English Football League
The men's team have now won three successive promotions under boss Rob Sinclair
but which league they will play in next season is still up in the air as talks about a possible merger with Bedford Town continue
Town, who were originally founded in 1908, are currently three points clear, external at the top of Southern League Premier Central
the division Real would most likely be in next season if they did not become a single entity
McCormack told BBC Sport on Monday that there was nothing new on the merger situation
you say you want to get a team in the Football League
and you know you've got to do six promotions - that was the goal
"To do three back to back is incredible
The bitcoin podcaster told the club's social media channels he was delighted to have the Winkelvoss twins among the 1,426 crowd at the Eyrie
"For them to see us win a championship
it helps them understand it," he said
"When they're in America and I'm explaining it
they kind of get it but when you're here and experience it
It's going to help getting them more embedded in the project."
It was announced last week that the first Universal theme park in the UK is to be built on the site of a former brickworks near Bedford and McCormack believes it has the chance to be the fastest growing town in the country
"It's just a very cool time to be a Bedfordian," he added
