Construction has commenced on a new medication distribution centre in Cairns
Wesfarmers Health’s subsidiary Australian Pharmaceutical Industries (API) is establishing a new fulfilment centre in Portsmith that will be three times larger than its existing building in Bentley Park
The new centre will supply more than 120 pharmacies from Cairns to as far north as Weipa and inland to Mount Isa
improving reliability and access to medication for Queenslanders
A ceremonial groundbreaking marked the construction commencement on September 17
“The new fulfilment centre will increase product
boast updated technology in the warehouse and will feature solar panels to drive our Net Zero sustainability goals,” API’s General Executive Manager Doug Swan said
CSF Industries will construct the facility
TMX Transform worked on the concept design
and is managing construction with the works now underway
“This strategically located site in Cairns consolidates existing facilities into a new bespoke distribution centre
which will enable API to plan for and accommodate product and volume growth and to continue supplying critical deliverables for regional Australians,” TMX Transform’s Executive Director of Project Services Angus Perry said
“This is the third major project on which API has partnered with TMX
and our partnership has deepened our joint expertise in positioning API for growth and supply chain resilience.”
Hundreds of Cairns locals will be employed during the construction phase
permanent jobs also created once the site opens
The new facility is expected to open October 2025

Taking a fall during a rough and tumble game of Edor
a traditional Indigenous chasing-tagging game played in many Cairns schools
It's how students bounce back from that fall that varies
Extending a hand to help a fellow student up has become a natural
subconscious expression of empathy and kindness among Bentley Park College’s year 5 students
skills they’ve been displaying more often in day-to-day activities
we’re seeing more regulation (in behaviour) and language being used because of The Resilience Project,” explained Rod Jackson
“I often walk into a class where we review what’s going on
and we’re looking for the teacher delivery
and as part of that we get the opportunity to interview the students
“We have a standard five questions -what are you learning
why are you doing this - those sorts of questions
and then we will have some questions that sit within wellbeing
we would hear of words being used like ‘good’; good teacher
What I’m hearing now is more depth to those words and The Resilience Project words being used.”
Students were playing the game with former Cowboy and community programs officer Ray Thompson
who visited the school and ran sessions with students to find out more about how they’re understanding and making use of the program
Bentley Park College is considered a leader among Cairns schools in implementing The Resilience Project
which improves student happiness and mental wellbeing through the pillars of gratitude
The Resilience Project is delivered by the North Queensland Cowboys and is funded by Northern Queensland Primary Health Network
The program was adopted by the school as part of their commitment to student wellbeing and to match behaviours with expectations after noticing that students lacked an ability to bounce back
Bentley Park College is using the pillar of empathy through acts of kindness to teach respect – a behaviour that meets one of the school’s key expectations
It’s an important investment for the school with many students from other nearby primary schools often coming to Bentley Park College for their secondary schooling
“What we want (to teach students) is how to be resilient in the moment when we’re challenged,” Rod said
and there’s something called Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) that you’ll hear where you teach the extra behaviour for an expectation
and we saw an opportunity to connect our expectations with GEM.”

BENTLEY Park in Cairns’ south is poised to potentially record its first $1m house sale with a stunning property at 13 Densmore Close on the market with offers over $985,000 are sought
Unique Property Sales and Staging agent James Fennell
said perceptions of Bentley Park were fast changing
“We have seen a complete change in attitude and appreciation of Bentley Park since Covid when things like access to local services
transport and living in your own community became so much more important to buyers,” Mr Fennell said
“As the area has matured the housing has occurred higher and located above the old cane field lines and now we find elevated cul-de-sacs and quiet streets nestled in the hills with amazing views to the south
Cute home with highly-appealing price tag
Bright updates make for great value at Manunda home

He said blocks of land for $250,000 were not unusual and houses tended to be in the $600,000 to $700,000 range
“We have sold a completed a duplex half side and half side which eclipsed $1m – a seven-digit number in Bentley Park was previously unheard of,” Mr Fennell said
sporting grounds and great schools as well as views and breezes are often quoted to us from purchasers as their reason for choosing here
there is a strong amount of ‘near new’ product – built in the last 10 years
and with building costs and time frames and land scarcity we are seeing a strong value proposition for existing homes,” Mr Fennell said
and near or brand new and they are finding it Bentley Park.”
He said after listing a property for 24 hours
he had five written offers and 34 people through the first open house
“This home sold for over $600,000 with five written offers and one open
a state of affairs we haven’t seen since interest rates started an upward cycle,” Mr Fennell said
He said well-presented homes in Bentley Park were selling for about $50,000 above asking price

A former student of the principal turned cold-blooded police killer alleges he made her primary school life 'hell' because she was Indigenous
Nathaniel Train, 46, was a respected educator who spent decades working as a teacher and principal in regional communities across Queensland and NSW before his career unravelled after he suffering an almost fatal heart attack last year
his brother Gareth and sister-in-law Stacey will be remembered as senseless killers following a mass shooting in a remote Queensland community that claimed the innocent lives of two young police officers and a Good Samaritan
The trio executed constables Matthew Arnold, 26, and Rachel McCrow, 29, and an innocent neighbour, Alan Dare, 58, in an ambush at their rural property in Wieambilla, three-and-a-half hours west of Brisbane, on Monday before they were killed six hours later during a late night shootout with tactical police.
Chantel Kari was in year six at Bentley Park College in Cairns when Train was appointed principal at the state-run school in far north Queensland in 2006.
She described the next 12 months as 'terrible', claiming she was suspended at least twice by Train and given no valid reason.
The young mum also claimed Train tried to have her removed from the school and told Daily Mail Australia she wasn't the only student to have trouble with him.
'It was the first time I had experienced first-hand racism,' Ms Kari, now 29, recalled.
'He didn't like me nor did he like a lot of the other Indigenous students. I have multiple friends that had the same trouble with him.
'He made school hell for me and a lot of other people. I don't think he was cut out to be a principal.'
Train was aged in his early 30s at the time, just seven years after his first teaching role near Townsville.
He was Ms Kari's principal for a year before he and his deputy were moved on by the education department.
'It was constant trouble until my grandmother took it to the Board of Education,' she recalled.
It took months of paperwork before the education department intervened, according to Ms Kari.
'I was relieved. I was only a kid so I was finally able to enjoy school after that,' she said.
Several former colleagues, parents and students have come out speaking highly of Train as an educator following the mass killing on Monday
But Ms Kari feels she was mistreated by him and claimed many others felt the same.
'He might have a dozen people praising him, but I know even more that have had trouble with him,' she said.
Despite her bad experience with Train, she couldn't believe it when she heard the former principal was involved in the senseless killing that has shocked Australia.
'I was shocked, I didn't think he'd ever be capable of something like this,' she said
'A lot of us who went to school with him as our teacher and principal were in shock.'
Daily Mail Australia has obtained messages from another former Bentley Park College student who had a similar experience.
'Too much trauma for me to bring up, too many stories. I f****** hated him,' one wrote.
'Respected person, come ask the students that had to deal with him. As soon as they released the photo of him, I knew straight away it was Mr Train.'
After leaving Bentley Park College, Train was in a similar role at a school in Dimbulah, west of Cairns by 2011.
At his next school in Innisfail, Train was said to have ran a tight ship where teachers followed a daily schedule and pupils started each class with a chant designed to memorise what they learned.
His efforts reaped dividends as school results improved.
'I'm astounded at how quickly things have turned around,' Train told The Australian in 2013.
One Innisfail parent was 'so very shocked' to hear what had happened on Monday.
'He was just a very happy man that loved kids and they loved him,' the parent told A Current Affair.
Train achieved similar results during his next stint at Yorkeys Knob State School in Cairns.
The mild mannered principal made the local newspaper five years ago when pupils decorated his long beard with Christmas decorations to raise funds for the school.
He was also lauded for turning the school into one of the best performing schools in the state.
'He was quiet, but he seemed stern but caring with the kids,' parent Paige Foster recalled.
A former colleague added: 'He made Yorkeys the highest performing NAPLAN school in far north Queensland.'
Another parent said: 'I don't get it. Mr Train was such a great person around the students.
'He helped my daughter transition into the school mid year and without him playing tag with her every break she wouldn't have done as well.
'When he was leaving we went up to him and thanked him and his eyes welled up. What ever has happened, we will always remember his good side.
Train then joined Walgett Community College Primary School in NSW as executive principal in 2020.
But within months, he found himself embroiled in a row over a cheating incident during a NAPLAN exam at the school.
One student, who shared a surname with a teaching assistant, was said to have been unable to answer the first two questions - but then got the next 34 all correct.
Train allegedly raised the alarm about the incident at his own school and turned to One Nation NSW leader Mark Latham for help when he claimed the NSW Education Department had ignored him.
He stopped working at the school in August after he suffered a massive heart attack and had to be revived by his teachers.
But Train kept pursuing the cheating row with education officials in a series of increasingly frustrated emails, according to Mr Latham.
In the space of just a fortnight earlier this year, Train sent 16 emails to the education department secretary Georgina Harrison begging her to tackle the problem.
Train was last seen in Dubbo on December 16, 2021 and hadn't been heard from since October.
He officially left his job at Walgett in March 2022 and later walked out on his wife. He was last in contact with her on October 9, according to police.
NSW Police issued a missing persons notice for him four days ago and had asked Queensland Police to make a check with his brother at his rural property, and the four officers attended.
Monday 4.30pm: Four officers attended a property on Wains Road at Wieambilla as part of inquiries into a missing school principal Nathaniel Train, 46, last seen in Dubbo in central-west NSW a year ago.
4.30-5pm: Two gunmen dressed in camo, Nathaniel Train and his brother Gareth opened fire as police approached the house.
Constable Matthew Arnold, 26, and his colleague Rachel McCrow, 29, were shot at close range and hit the ground. The gunmen stood over the injured officers and shot them dead before taking their Glock pistols. Neighbour Alan Dare, 58, was also shot dead.
After 5pm: A third officer, Constable Randall Kirk, who was shot in the leg but managed to escape is taken to the local hospital. His colleague, rookie cop Constable Keely Brough fled into surrounding bushland and is later rescued by a specialist police tactical team.
6pm: Police declare an emergency declaration zone encompassing the area between Chinchilla Tara Rd, Wieambilla Rd, Bennetts School Rd, and Mary Street.
After 6pm: Sporadic gunfire was reported by locals throughout the night
10.30pm: Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll pays tribute to the killed officers in an emotional press conference
11.30pm: Nathaniel Train and his brother Gareth, along with the brother's wife Stacey are shot dead following shootout with Special Emergency Response Team police
Tuesday morning: A convoy of police vehicles accompanying the bodies of the two slain police officers carried in vans left the crime scene en route to Brisbane's forensic mortuary on Tuesday morning.
The remains of constables Rachel McCrow and Matthew Arnold are expected to arrive by late morning at the John Tonge centre at Coopers Plains in Brisbane's west, where they will undergo autopsies.

respectively situated 30km and 25km east of Taroom
Beaumont (3000ha) was purchased by Mr Ziesemer's father
Randall was handed the reins to the property in the early 1990's
they then purchased Bentley Park (2500ha) in 2008 to expand the business as additional breeder country was required
Mr Ziesemer said the land on both properties primarily consists of cleared
some of this country runs into lighter box wilga type soils
"We predominantly have improved buffel grass pastures on both," he said
Mr Ziesemer said when they began managing Beaumont themselves
they initially started out with a few hundred purebred Charolais cows
"We were putting Red Brahman bulls over these cows which produced a beautiful F1 heifer
but the problem we had then was figuring out what breed to use over them
This was when we made the decision to put generational bred Charbray bulls over the F1's."
In the Ziesemer's operation all the F1 heifers are put on Bentley Park
where they spend the rest of their lives being joined to the Charbray bulls
while Beaumont is also used for breeding purposes and to grow out and finish their cattle
"We're very happy with the way our program is working as we're breeding very handy heifers
this cross consistently produces a very fast growing
We find that they fit into any market that we want to target."
the family target the top end of feed-on market with their steers
weighing 470 to 480kg at close to 18 months of age
cull heifers are finished on a small patch of leucaena at 280 to 320kg dressed
In all the Ziesemer's are currently running 900 breeders plus replacement heifers
close to 2000 head are being run across both properties at a ratio of one bull to 40 females
"We put the bulls out with the cows on October 1 and we then try to remove them by late February
This gives us an early calving window between June and July
We've found that early calves are the best doing ones."
While they've bought Charbray bulls from various studs since commencing their program
the Ziesemer's have had a particularly lengthy arrangement with fellow Taroom locals the Welsh family
we aren't afraid to spend a bit of money on the bulls we want
"We try to find outcross bulls with a diversity of genetics to keep a good variety of bloodlines in our herd."
Mr Ziesemer said the number one priority is that the bull must have a good
we want nothing to do with cattle that fly around and lift their head at you in the yards
The style of a beast is important to us as well
bulls we look at need to be long bodied and have depth of flank
"We study scrotal measurements as fertility is an important issue
We consistently preg-test in the 90 to 95 per cent range
We believe that comes from our joining windows and by being strict on empty cows and culling."
The Ziesemer's cattle are well known throughout the area for their consistently high quality
"We've been showing at the Taroom Show for many years where we've done well in collecting a room full of trophies and ribbons for our efforts
"Other highlights have included winning our class at Beef 2012 in Rockhampton with a pen of grass fed EU steers and more recently at Beef 2018 were we placed second in our class with a pen of grain fed EU heifers."
He said while they've probably been on the lighter end of the rainfall since the start of the calendar year
the 180mm they've received has been enough to give them a good body of grass
"This year we'll get enough feed to carry us through the winter months
providing we get another early spring break
He said their current outlook is a far cry from 2019 when they had to start a program with their breeders to sell any empty or aged cows
"We also had to start weaning a lot earlier than usual
and a lot of supplementary feeding was required to our herd going."
Mr Ziesemer said they're currently in the process of trying to expand onto an additional breeder block
"It's just a matter of finding the right one to suit our requirements
The additional country will allow us to move most of the breeders away from our better country on Beaumont and Bentley Park
which we can then use to primarily grow out and finish on."
Championing Charbrays: Randall and Tanya Ziesemer's daughter Lucy and her fiance Bryce Moore's obsession with the Charbray breed has led to them establishing a stud operation
Trifecta bulls will be offered for the first time at the National Charbray Bull and Female Sale in September at Gracemere.Stud interestsWhile her parents continue to focus on the commercial arm of the business
from which their first offering of two-year-old bulls will go under the hammer at the National Charbray Bull and Female Sale in September at Gracemere
She said the stud was named Trifecta due to its incorporation of three cow lines
consisting of the Ziesemer's Beaumont cows
cows from Carbene Grazing (Bryce's family-run operation)
and those that the pair have produced under the Trifecta Beef banner
"We're using some of our own bulls in the program
in addition to sires sourced from the Huntington
Wattlebray and Kandanga Valley studs," Ms Ziesemer said
She said the decision to create the stud goes back to her parents selling bulls out of the paddock with solid success when she was much younger
"They never went ahead and got registered as a stud
but Bryce and I are a bit obsessed with the breed and we have a keen interest in getting our genetics out there to offer something more to the beef scene
based off what mum and dad have built over the years."
Ms Ziesemer said their ambition is to offer a unique and complete
it's a bit of a battle to secure strong female genetics
so we're going down the road of producing pure generational Charbrays to help build the breeds' base and strength."
