We first shared this remarkable home back when it was built in 2021 – but a few years later
we’re still wowed by its three levels of luxury good looks
Hitting market this week
we thought it was the perfect opportunity to have another peek inside
Set into the magnificent cliffs of Blackwall Reach, Infinity Views is a sight for sore eyes, designed by Superseed Architecture and constructed by Capozzi Building
has some views that’ll knock your bloody socks off – with huge outlooks over the sparkling waters of the Swan River from every floor
These views are made even more impressive by the house’s position a huge 25 metres above sea level – meaning you can see all the way across to peek some views of the ocean
And while every floor has a pretty speccy view
the best place to take them in has got to be from the luxe
but we can certainly see ourselves relaxing in that pool after a long day
Or maybe from the primary bedroom’s freestanding bath
You can also give guests the benefit of that view from the ample outdoor entertaining areas
The ground floor boasts 150 square metres of decking adjacent to the pool
The top floor has a spectacular alfresco dining area with arguably the most spectacular views across the river
and provides a window through to the river as you arrive at the home’s cobblestone driveway
The middle floor’s balcony is similarly large
perfect for reclining with a book or enjoying a casual cocktail with friends
contemporary goodness – including four bedrooms
four bathrooms (plus there’s that outdoor shower!)
Much of the home’s design is influenced by yachts
reflected in those sweeping curves and nautical materiality
There’s also a lift and a large capacity wine cellar
you’ll obviously need somewhere to keep your cars – and there’s a four-car garage with car stacker that’ll keep your motors safe
If the riverfront lifestyle sounds like it’s for you, you can check out the listing here or take a look at the snazzy video below for more of a peek inside

Fins Bicton is an irresistible new prospect for seafood loversA go-getting seafood distributor plus a talented chef equals an exciting new blueprint for the fish and chip shop

the neighbourhood fish and chipper and the people who make them tick
these hardcore wrappers have enriched a gazillion beach visits; supplied emergency catering to countless family gatherings; plus
simply by listening carefully as they ask pointed questions such as
Fins Bicton is a step above your local fish and chipper.Matt O’DonohuePossibilities such as: do I want to take away, or should I just eat here? (The indoor counter running the length of this corner tenancy makes a lovely perch, although the umbrella-shaded parklet deserves consideration, too.)
Or do I want my half-dozen fresh oysters ($20) to have come from Sydney, Tasmania or Albany? (While not shucked to order, they’ve been handled carefully enough to still taste of the sea.) And do I want fat coins of pickled octopus brightened by a luminous sapphire jumble of wakame salad ($16)? (Say yes, say yes.)
These aren’t decisions eaters normally encounter at the fish and chipper. Then again, Fins Bicton is no normal fish and chipper. If you know Fins, you’ll know two things. One: in less than a decade, Fins went from small South Perth fishmonger to go-getting seafood distributor. And two: founders John Cordin and Phil Clark are two of the most excitable hype-men for fish consumption that you’ll ever meet.
For Fins Bicton, they envisaged a seven-day fish shop with benefits: namely, a licensed kitchen where guests could eat Australian and New Zealand seafood either in-store or take-away. To make this happen, the gents recruited partners Grant Jones, Asher Flynn and, crucially, Seth James: a Queensland-born chef whose intricate, precise dishes at Margaret River’s Wills Domain and Frui Momento denoted him as a serious cooking talent.
Relax. There are no tweezers, baby veg or other fine-dining hallmarks here. Instead, what James brings to the party are smart ideas borrowed from the restaurant arena.
Champion (house-made) sauces also speak to kitchen know-how, from tartare sauce ($2) overclocked with more cornichons than most store-bought specimens, to a perky Vietnamese-inspired dressing of fish sauce, chilli and vinegar that transforms finely shredded cabbage and carrot into a coleslaw ($7/$13) of unusual lightness. Shout out, too, to the thoughtful offer of rotating salads.
But most restaurant-y of all are the imaginative small plates. The scallops with a caramelised red miso butter ($9), say, or the pale, zesty snapper ceviche impatient with the urgency of lime juice ($22) and served alongside great corn chips: a fun example of the high-brow, low-brow mashups that chefs love so much.
But what if you don’t feel like day-tripping to Peru? What if you prefer fish cooked with hot oil rather than citrus? What if you want a straight-up fish and chips experience? They’ve got you. You can tell a lot about a restaurant by its entry-level offerings. Here, it’s honey-coloured plinths of battered Australian hoki ($14) that shatters satisfyingly to reveal its flaky, almost lustrous flesh. Consider the basics nailed.
While snapper and whiting are also available, you can also have any fillet of fish in the cabinet – with the addition of a $12.50 surcharge – cooked as you like. In both thickness and crunch, skin-on chips ($5 or $10) are more akin to fries but still tick the box for tasty ballast. The small serve feels right for two while the bigger portion is designed for groups and families.
‘This is a perfect pizza’: The 10 best things our restaurant critic ate (and drank) in 2024And to the other fish and chipper standards
snow-like coating equals dainty salt and pepper squid ($14)
Filling potato scallops ($7) are five to a serve and feature waxy wedges of ’tater clad in a crisp
seasoning levels can veer towards the heavy – the fried stuff can be especially salty – but let’s face it
fish and chips has never been considered health food
While there’s plenty of restaurant DNA in the menu and service – venue manager Giada Bousi worked alongside James in Margaret River – don’t come here expecting a restaurant experience
You order at the counter and may find yourself stuck behind first-timers buying dinner for the family
plus guests carry their own drinks to their table
But consider the above not as an admonishment
a casual setting no longer means casual cooking
and if dispensing with some bells and whistles translates to lower prices
Fins Bicton mightn’t be WA’s first “gourmet fish and chips” concept
but it feels very “now” and neatly slots into that growing mid-range market that more eaters (and cooks) are looking to
A confession: in December, I compiled my favourite openings of 2024 but, embarrassingly, left Fins Bicton off the list
often get overlooked for such round-ups.)

A broke Andre Rebelo murdered his mother days after lodging $1 million worth of life insurance policies in her name in a desperate attempt to keep up the appearance of his “fake perfect life”
pictured right with his former partner Gracie Piscopo
During the first day of his trial in the Supreme Court of Western Australia on Thursday
state prosecutor Brett Tooker told the jury a “fit and healthy” Ms Rebelo was found dead in the shower of her home
“A coronial investigation was not able to determine the cause of death,” he said
The jury was told mobile phone cell tower data placed Rebelo at his mother’s house around the time that she died
the state claiming he was there for over an hour
allegedly giving him opportunity to kill his mother and then place her body in the shower to make it look like she had died of natural causes
Tooker also told the jury Ms Rebelo’s sister saw Rebelo’s car parked outside her Bicton home around the same time on the morning that she died
He added that police found a series of frantic missed calls and text messages to Rebelo from then-girlfriend Grace Piscopo at the same time he was at his mother’s home
including her asking him where he was and urging him to answer his phone
“The state’s case is he didn’t answer his phone because he was in the process of killing his mother or dealing with the aftermath and setting up the house to make it look like she had collapsed in the shower,” Tooker said

“The insurance company took rigorous steps to establish the claim,” he said
it must have seemed like they were putting roadblocks to claim
he found a way around it by submitting fraudulent records or documents.”
Mr Rebelo forged a copy of his mother’s will and testament listing himself as the executor
forged a medical letter from a psychologist stating his mother wasn’t suicidal
and forged a cause of death certificate stating she died of a brain aneurism
He also faked a voicemail from the psychologist telling the insurance company she did not believe Ms Rebelo was suicidal
The insurance company became suspicious and refused to pay out the claim before reporting Mr Rebelo to police
Mr Rebelo and his then-girlfriend Piscopo portrayed their life as glamorous and perfect
but the truth was they were in dire financial trouble
He said Mr Rebelo struggled to keep up with his girlfriend
and used other people’s money to bankroll his attempts to become a cryptocurrency day-trader
“He had lived his life on credit,” Tooker said
he had a personal and credit card debt of more than $40,000 ..
he was being pursued by two debt collection agencies
Tooker told the jury in the year before his mother’s death
Rebelo had been working at Coles and attempted to get a reduction on his $880-a-week rental property in Beaconsfield
He also cashed in his superannuation from two separate funds
under hardship rules during the COVID pandemic
and had applied for JobSeeker government payments
The court also heard Piscopo bought a Range Rover Evoque through a finance company for $73,000
which by early 2020 she was struggling to make repayments on
Rebelo was being hounded by two separate debt collection agencies with daily phone calls
His cryptocurrency business had made only $22 in profit and bank statements seized by police showed Piscopo was giving Rebelo money “from time to time”
a baby – a perfect life,” Tooker told the jury
Tooker also showed the jury Piscopo’s Instagram and YouTube accounts
which at the time of Ms Rebelo’s death had almost a million followers and 295,000 subscribers
Rebelo’s Instagram account had just 85,000 followers and his YouTube channel had 6000 subscribers
Tooker told the court Rebelo was Piscopo’s assistant
supported her in her career and was the primary carer of their son
Rebelo’s defence barrister Anthony Elliot told the court his client was innocent of murder and asked them to look closely at the evidence to see whether his client was actually in “a dire” financial situation
He also told the jury there could be a “completely innocent” explanation for taking out the life insurance policies for his mum days before her death
“There is one ultimate question; whether the financial evidence that you’re going to hear demonstrates or supports a motive to carry out a heinous crime of matricide,” he said
A substantial number of them are in debt to a greater extent than Mr Rebelo
Does being in debt mean he is likely to be - or proven to be - guilty of murder?”

A vehicle towing a mooring buoy taken out of the Swan River has left a trail of destruction in Bicton overnight
Police said the incident occurred around 11.30pm Saturday
when a black Toyota Land Cruiser driving along Kent Street turned left and swung the mooring into a ute which was parked outside a home
The mooring then collided with a power pole
Witnesses said mussels were all over the road
with the driver of the vehicle fleeing the scene
was treated at the scene and taken to hospital as a precaution
Road Policing Commander Mike Bell described the incident as unusual
“It was being driven around the street,” he said
“I’ve not seen a shipping buoy towed behind a vehicle before.”

the Shipping News was quite on the edge of our seat heading off to the launch of Simone McGurk’s 2025 pitch for reelection as MLA for Fremantle in the State Parliament
Reason was the invite we received to the launch hinted at very special launch guest
and stated an embargoed place and time for the launch
As I got closer to Gage Roads on Victoria Quay at just before 2.15 pm today
thinking he might not so much be parachuted in
Then I realised that was rather silly of me
He’s not been at all well lately and his travels have been limited
Not sure Rebel Wilson would qualify as something told me she’d probably not stick to the script or the time limits imposed on these occasions and may also object to wearing mainly red
Convinced in that thought headed towards the all-red uniformed gate where I discovered my invite also included one to the launch of Bicton ALP MLA Lisa O’Malley’s re-election pitch too
First thing after confirming my media credentials I met Emma
(I chose not to mention Rebel.) She looked at me blankly and quickly changed the conversation
old house mate of Simone McGurk from decades ago as it turns out
resplendent in crisp white shirt and dark strides
the epitome of a man who wished someone had told him the Saturday afternoon Gage Roads Freo dress code is shorts
told the gathered faithful he once lived in Cliff Street
and proceeded to deliver a rousing speech on why Labor is the answer and why Simone McGurk should be returned in Freo and Lisa O’Malley in Bicton
All this happened before a veritable lineup of old Labor heroes
including former Labor Premier Peter Dowding
former Freo MLA and leading Gallop Government Minister Jim McGinty
and a bevy of current Labor luminaries too many to name
except for David Scaife the Labor MLA for Cockburn
who Shipping News wouldn’t be surprised to find named as Attorney General in the next Cook Government Cabinet
no one is expecting the Cook Government not to be returned at the 8 March State election
but the question is whether Labor will be tested in Fremantle with a Voices4Freo candidate
making an early strong start to her campaign
and Greens candidate for Freo Felicity Townsend also running a vigorous campaign backed by a strong group of Green candidates seeking the balance of power in the upper house
Apparently the Libs have just announced a candidate for Freo
We were beginning to think they might run dead
Plainly Simone McGurk knows she has a contest on her hands
She spoke after the Premier finished his introduction of the candidates and spoke with passion
She emphasised her decades long connections with Freo
She said she wasn’t in politics just to talk about issues
And rattled off an impressive list of policy achievements
She plainly is a woman on a mission and not taking lightly the electoral threats facing her this time round
We would suggest she hasn’t faced a contest like 2025 in the 12 years since she was first elected in 2013
Lisa O’Malley spoke with confidence about the campaign she is running in Bicton
We will hear much more from these and all the candidates over the next few weeks as election fever rises in the State
and we hear the Party leaders spruiking their credentials
Labor will be working hard at convincing voters Freo is always on their mind
Keep an eye and ear out for our podcast interviews with the candidates
here on Fremantle Shipping News in the days and weeks ahead
In the meantime here’s another sunny pic from the sunny Labor launch for Freo and Bicton at Gage Roads – two Premiers

He has pleaded guilty to forging documents by taking out life insurances totalling more than $1 million in his mother’s name just days before she was found dead in her en suite shower

The court was told on Friday that Rebelo sent a text message to Fabian telling him he had left the clothes, but the 23-year-old brother gave evidence that he had no recollection of the clothes, nor a message about them.
The court also heard evidence on Monday from a police officer who attended the house on the day Colleen was found dead
He told the court she was found on the bathroom floor
but wearing jewellery including a necklace
A coronial investigation could not establish how Colleen died
one of Colleen’s closest friends also gave evidence on Monday
telling the jury they spoke often about her four children

“She didn’t think it could be a long-term lifestyle
She wondered what they would do later on in life if someone newer came along.”

The court heard Colleen had been a single parent for much of the children’s life after an acrimonious divorce from their father

The aunt of a man accused of murdering his mother has told a Perth court she saw his car parked outside her sister\\u2019s Bicton home on the morning she died.
Andre Rebelo, 28, is on trial in the Supreme Court of WA over the death of his mother, 58-year-old Colleen Rebelo, at her Bicton home in 2020.
He has pleaded guilty to forging documents by taking out life insurances totalling more than $1 million in his mother\\u2019s name just days before she was found dead in her en suite shower.
He then admitted he went on to try and cash in one of the policies, which was worth $500,000, by forging a coroner\\u2019s report and a signed statement from a psychologist to say she was not suicidal.
However, he denies being responsible for the 58-year-old\\u2019s death.
On Monday, Rebelo\\u2019s aunt, Pearl Fleming, told the jury she drove past her sister\\u2019s home about 11am on May 25, 2020, because she lived on the same street.
Fleming said a white Range Rover Evoque was parked at the front of the house, which she later determined belonged to Rebelo when she saw him getting into it at her sister\\u2019s funeral.

Rebelo\\u2019s twin sister Monique also gave evidence on Monday, telling the court she had no idea her brother had taken out insurance policies in their mother\\u2019s name, or tried to claim against them.

She began a new job with the Health Department two weeks before her death, having worked in night fill and cafes for years.
Read also told the court Colleen worried about money and was mostly just making ends meet before her death.
On the first day of the trial last week, the jury was told around the time she died, with prosecutors alleging he was there for more than an hour, giving him the opportunity to kill his mother and place her body in the shower.

It’s fair to say we really larb these Thai restaurants around Perth
We’re sorry for the pun… Hopefully you’ll forgive us when you check out some of these delicious Thai restaurants across Perth:
We first spied this new Mount Lawley Thai spot on a foodie friend’s feed, and we were immediately intrigued. While the recommendation immediately put Kub Kao in our brain’s “cautiously optimistic” category
when we finally got there ourselves we were immediately on board
A pared-back menu means it’s chock-a-block with heavy hitters – like the deliciously crispy salt and pepper roast pork belly
served with green peppercorns and aromatic kaffir lime leaves
(We also couldn’t resist swiping the crispy pork crackling through the creamy choo chee curry sauce
which was served with tender slices of grilled beef rump.)
It was a fortuitous few weeks that saw both Hunter Bread and Rym Tarng open in Bicton Central – followed by even more deliciousness as the hub has developed
is pumping out some pretty unforgettable Thai plates from the 16-seat restaurant
Pork and prawn donuts are enough of a reason to visit
but signature dishes like a fiery Angus beef salad or enticingly charred choo chee prawns certainly help seal the deal
Hidden away in the Central160 food court, Thai takeaway joint Soi29 (or Soi56
depending who you ask) is home to perhaps our favourite lunch in the city – and in spite of our hesitation to create even longer lines
we can’t deny the magnetic pull of not just their slow cooked beef khao soi
but their unparalleled crispy chicken and rice
Truly the salve to any bad day at the office
Market regular Bangkok Jump Street has made the leap to a brick-and-mortar location in Northbridge, and while Baan Baan means “comfort and simple”
as well as home-style meals – but it’s all perfect for sharing
Let’s hope your date is as hot as some fresh Thai chilies
As soon as the temperature starts to rise, we’ve gotta head to S&T for a papaya salad
A side of crunchy Thai pancake doesn’t hurt
This Northbridge eatery is a long-time favourite
particularly for spice fiends who are happy to turn up the heat to 11
their guay teaw num tok soup will warm even the coldest of hearts
Another Northbridge favourite, we’ll admit we spent far too long blindly walking past Torung Market before finally seeing the light
This low-key spot strikes the balance between Thai classics
regional specialties and a contemporary vibe
Who wouldn’t want to start a night out here
Perhaps there’s something to be said about a doubled-up name – the Thai so nice they had to name it twice? Louder Louder continues the theme with big-impact flavours inspired by both the street food and home cooking of Thailand’s north east Isan region
Start with those tantalisingly crispy prawn cakes before diving into a whole fried barramundi or the succulently tender Mussamun beef ribs curry – or dive into one of those comforting hot pots when the weather cools
If you’re in the inner north, you’re in luck, because it’s where you’ll find the lion’s share of Perth’s best Thai food. Sa-Lung opened back in 2018
and since then has been steadily gaining a loyal following for their signature combination of street food favourites and family recipes
While their duck noodle soup is a pretty unmissable winter warmer
they also serve a truly impressive array of vegan options
The north end of Barrack Street might not be the most illustrious part of town, but the aromatic, tender temptation of Chuonkin’s slow-cooked lamb shanks would be enough to entice anyone
vibrant curries – we know where our next lunch break will be
They might not win any awards for ambience, but Wok & Ladle is proof that looks aren’t everything
fresh flavours are the name of the game here
or the mouth-watering stir fried pork belly
pop across the road for a bottle of wine to BYO
Full Moon Thai’s intimate dining room is certainly memorable
This cosy Walcott Street restaurant is filled to the brim – and we mean floor to ceiling
And although the jewel-box interior is remarkable
you’ll leave thinking about the meal you just had
aromatic massaman beef and green curries will have you feeling like royalty yourself
Tucked away down a residential Mount Lawley street, Longlae is an unexpected treasure
More adventurous diners will be intrigued by their specials
with dishes on offer like pickled bamboo shoot curry with fish eggs
While we love things cheap and cheerful, Dusit (now in their new-ish Cottesloe digs) brings a bit more formality to this list – without the price tag
Suitable whether you’re stopping by for a quick lunch or getting the family together for dinner
the menu is packed with crowd pleasers and specialties alike
with plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians
Another inner north treasure, Khanom Thai makes a big impact despite its low-key appearance
particularly when it comes to showstopper dishes like the whole fried snapper
is Thai for the desserts which these guys specialise in – with service just as sweet
A visit to Long Chim will always turn up the heat
The Thai street food mecca has become an institution of sorts since opening its doors in 2015 – and for good reason
Bringing a slice of Bangkok to the State Buildings’ basement
the menu practically slaps you in the face with flavour
Suburban takeaways get a bad rap, but Scents of Siam is proof that your local can hold its own against the big hitters
you’ll be able to score a jar of their tamarind dipping sauce or chilli jam to take home
Tucked away in Cockburn, you’ll find hidden gem Noot’s
we’re not doing our best Pingu impression – but we’d certainly like to toot a horn or two for Noot’s
We’re pretty jealous it’s not at the end of our street
Opening at the start of 2021, Ma Kin has become a fast favourite for Nedlands locals, serving up street-food inspired Northern Thai fare. We’d like to say we have a go-to, but the entire menu is so tantalising you’ll be wanting to try one of everything.

and even better we love copping one from the independent baker down the street
And around Perth these days we seem to be getting more and more great places to grab a super-fresh loaf of bread or a buttery
but in short: these loaves are set to become your dinner party
We firmly maintain that Perth’s very own superstar baker Tash Brownfield can do no wrong – and her itty-bitty Claisebrook bakery Teeter is definitive proof (pardon the pun)
teetering (‘scuse us) the line between traditional viennoserie and contemporary flavours
If you eat just one croissant in your life
We can’t shut up about North Street Store – not that anyone really needs telling at this point
In spite of a few vocal locals at the start of their Cott tenure
baking some of the best loaves in town from their ever-expanding empire
And while we’ve waxed lyrical about the cinnamon buns
the impressive fern-like fougasse is the absolute perfect bread to share with mates in the sunshine
O’Connor (Big Loaf Factory Bakery)2/390 South Terrace
South Fremantle (Little Loaf Lunch Bar)Victoria House
We were pretty jazzed about Miller + Baker’s opening that snuck in at the end of 2019
and our excitement hasn’t really abated since then
Friendly neighbourhood vibes complement their artisanal approach
you’ve got to be pretty committed to quality
Small, family-run bakery Grain may have only opened at the start of 2021 but in the few years since its become a huge hit around its Lathlain location – and a large part of that is due to it being steeped in owners the Pallot family’s history
The bakery uses decades-old family recipes
and produce some of the best sourdough going around Perth at the moment
Beware their irresistible pastry treats though
It should come as no surprise that Goods would make its way onto this list. Arguably our current obsession, the new spot has been cooked up by the crew at Modus – it serves as the central bakery for the group’s three other cafes
as well as a stellar destination of its own
restrained retro fit out completes the vibe
Make sure to grab a homemade chutney for the road
South Freo (and now also North Freo!) faves Wild Bakery are all about funky fermentation
which is not only delicious but can also be beneficial for those with sensitive tums
An absolute favourite for a Saturday afternoon lunch after stopping by the Subi Farmer’s Market – a few slices of Wild’s quinoa loaf with some fresh cultured butter
Baked in a dedicated gluten-free environment, Strange Grains is the answer to a coeliac’s prayers
All their loaves are hand-made by skilled bakers
corn or sugar – not to mention all the other treats they have available
GF friends, you thought we’d only give you one option? Alongside delightfully tempting tarts and cinny scrolls, Palmyra’s Panna Artisan is baking bread that’ll have you saying “Gluten
We recently gave Knead. a shoutout in our article looking at Scarborough cafes (check it here)
but it stands up very comfortably as just a bakery in its own right
In a very short time they’ve built up a devoted and loving community of repeat customers thanks to friendly service combined with of course
They’ve even developed a special Scarborough Sourdough just for the locals – get amongst it
If you want a baguette from Chu
Perhaps more known for their picture-perfect pastries
it might just be because hungry locals leave them with bare shelves
If you’ve slept in and missed out on a loaf
you can sample the goods with one of their toasted sandwiches
baguettes or loaded toasts – just make sure to eat it the preferred way: laying down under a tree in Hyde Park with a coffee in hand and a pastry for after
Tucked down one of Freo’s leafiest, loveliest laneways… A hidden, sweet delight! Situated in the quirky, white-rendered space that once housed the iconic Juicy Beetroot, Aunty Lucy’s Cakery is the brainchild of baker Lucy Cosgriff
who has earned legions of fans from her long-running stall at the Fremantle Farmers Market under the moniker The Well-Rested Baker
Cosgriff’s offerings are inspired by a combination of nostalgic family recipes: you can expect to find a welcoming array of towering sponges filled with lemon curd
roasted strawberries or pillowy whipped cream
the cakery’s robust selection of classic rotations include a gluten free
Tucked away behind the synagogue in Menora are some of the most legit bagels you’ll find in Perth. The family-run Kosher Providore’s onsite bakery pumps out traditional boiled bagels
you can stock up at the kosher butcher or check out some of their imported pantry and freezer items
Rear car park of the Perth Hebrew Congregation
This itty-bitty coffee window may be small, but it’s certainly mighty. Owned by Courtney Gibb and his wife Simone, the former head baker for Mary Street Bakery manages to produce an impressive daily selection of freshly baked bread, pastries and other delicious treats from Cheerio’s pint-sized kitchen – along with coffees that are worth the stop alone
Harvest is so popular
you might have to get up early (and fight through a queue of devoted locals) to make sure you don’t miss out – but trust us
We’ve already talked about their light-as-air croissants (which
are even more amazing filled with ham and cheese…) and the show-stopping flaky
seasonal fruit – but we also can’t resist their daily loaves
Earning legions of followers with their cult-favourite underground bakery Backdoor Bakehouse, it was only a matter of time until the crew expanded to a brick and mortar operation. And thus, Zonts Bakehouse was born
moving from Subiaco into their Northbridge digs
flaky pastry is pretty mesmerising on its own
but the flavour combos absolutely take things to the next level – like croissants topped with everything bagel seasoning and filled with cream cheese
Those with a sweet tooth with be more than looked after
with flavours like blood orange and pink grapefruit curd
After a brief 18-month stint in Inglewood, Butter Crumbs moved into a permanent space in Mount Lawley back in 2022 – and it couldn’t have come soon enough
there’s a reason they’ve been a cult hit since their early days at the Mount Claremont Farmers’ Market
Comforting pies (both sweet and savoury) are a must
and you’ll also see some pretty tempting seasonal offerings
You’ll be eating every crumb of the incredible cakes that come out of Last Crumb Cake Co. in Bassendean
The cult-status bakery’s cakes are showstoppers
but you’ll also find it hard to resist Last Crumb’s cinny scrolls
you can also head there for some nourishing brunches for those without as much of a sweet tooth

new team and a new season of ACU British Sprint Enduro but same guy at the top of the results sheets as Jack Edmondson hits the ground running at Bicton for a double victory
in fact now a multi-time British Sprint Enduro champion
Jack Eddie looked impressive in his first outing on the new GASGAS machine under PAR Home Enduro banner
The BSEC series is back in the hands of the Fast Eddy Racing crew and they completed the weekend with a smile as Jack
heading Jamie McCanney home for second and Harry Edmondson third on their Triumphs
The long sprint test at Bicton farm was a cracker which mixed a challenging woods section
the old-fashioned scrambles track and field
a few extreme obstacles and a classic stubbled field to test skills
It was a day to test your mastery of ruts too as the moist ground folded-up a treat in places with the boys out front impressive to say the least in their corner speeds
A post shared by Jack Edmondson (@jackeddie118)
Fully on the road back to fitness on the factory Triumph
Jamie McCanney was Jack’s close challenger across the two days
Taking P2 on day one by just over 20 seconds
the Manxman hounded Edmondson closer on day two in a nailbiter which went right to the last test
Harry Edmondson was consistent in third place
holding off Alfie Webb and Harry Houghton on day one followed by Ryan Crowder and Aaron Gordon completing the top five scratch on day two
Rounds three and four of the ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship are on May 10-11

SEN WA host Paul Hasleby is reporting that Sydney’s Chad Warner is looking at real estate in Perth
who hails from Perth and played for East Fremantle in the WAFL before being drafted by the Swans
comes out of contract at the end of the 2025 campaign with both the Eagles and Dockers wanting to lure him home this off-season
Warner reportedly met with Eagles CEO Don Pyke and fellow Eagles football department staffer Kieren Jack on the golf course during a recent visit to Perth and Hasleby says he has also been looking at real estate in the city
Warner in the last fortnight had a private viewing of a property in Bicton
an affluent riverside suburb 10km south of Perth’s CBD
The Fremantle great also added that the 23-year-old looked at other properties in the area
“Not only did Chad Warner play golf with Don Pyke and Kieren Jack whilst here in Perth,” Hasleby told SEN WA The Run Home
he had a private viewing of a property in Bicton
but I am led to believe he did also look at some other properties in that area
“It doesn’t mean that he’s definitely coming home
but Luke Jackson and Liam Baker both explored real estate options in Perth the year before deciding to come home
“It doesn’t leave any more clues in terms of which club
because Bicton the suburb is basically right between Coburn and Mineral Resources Park
Warner is not a free agent at the end of the 2025 season
so both the Eagles and Dockers would have to trade for the 85-gamer if he requests a trade home this off-season

the precinct will be welcoming Venn Bicton
a specialty coffee outlet selling its own beans in bulk alongside great bagels and coffee
for Bicton Central: a small shopping centre on Canning Highway that proves independent food businesses
can flourish in a market ruled by franchises and The Duopoly
Now factor in a Bicton outpost of respected West Australian grocery Fresh Provisions, plus the mighty family-run Princi Butchers (get the mortadella!) and it’s easy to understand why so many eaters wish that their local shops looked more like Bicton Central

at Fins’ pop-up shop at Bicton Central.Martin EadeExpect more of those wistful looks come winter when the shopping centre welcomes two – and perhaps more – new tenants to the Canning Highway food party
The first of these newcomers is Venn Bicton, a Bicton offshoot of Ash Kenworthy and Matt Kenworthy’s popular cafe in East Victoria Park. Originally part of the late coffee pioneer Craig Muzeroll’s Antz Inya Pantz empire
the shop was taken over by the Kenworthys in 2019 and rebranded as Venn in 2021
While the new shop featured a slicker look than the homey
the Kenworthys retained the bulk bean retail offering of Antz (Venn is one of the few
cafes that sells coffee beans that it roasts themselves in bulk; customers are invited to bring their own containers to further reduce waste and packaging)
They also kept the bagel focus but expanded the offering to include more toppings and house-made schmears
Both the bulk coffee and bagels will underpin the Bicton offering
“We’re really excited to be coming to Bicton Central,” says Matt
who swapped a career in mortgage broking to operate his cafe
“The landlord has had a big focus on getting in high-quality makers that take a lot of pride in their products
whether it’s the bread at Hunter or the cooking at Rym Tarng
There’s a real focus on making this a destination.”
the new addition to the family will be smaller and have space for about 40 guests both inside and out
(Most of the seats will be outdoors.) The beans in the cafe’s Steamhammer machine will rotate constantly in the name of freshness and interest while Venn Bicton will trade seven days

fried fish will be part of the offering: just don’t call the Fins crew’s newest project a fish and chipper
so we’re calling it Fins Bicton,” says Asher Flynn
“To call it a fish and chipper wouldn’t do justice to it
We’re broaching a few different genres in this space.”
salad and a few chips”: a more nutritionally minded offering that sees well-handled fish served alongside one of six rotating salads that will be served each day
plus a small serving of fried potato deliciousness
shucked oysters and other seafood offerings will round off the kitchen’s offering with food available to takeaway or to eat inside the 50-seat space
Not that Fins Bicton is all about virtuous eating and drinking
The space’s small bar license means that dine-in guests can enjoy a drink with dinner as well as while they’re waiting for their takeover order
Venn Bicton is due to open on Saturday May 4

Bicton hosted one of two Regional Championships running this weekend
which saw riders aiming for the Bramham grassroots championship
while riders with Badminton grassroot championships in their sights contested the BE90 RCNQ and BE100 RCNQ
Susan Bill’s double clear saw her claim the BE80 RCNQ
She said: “I was thrilled today to get the win
It’s always a treat to compete at Bicton as it feels like an occasion show jumping in the main arena
What was really influential and enjoyable I think
was it was a long cross-country course of 6:40 minutes – with several big climbs
She enjoyed it but had definitely worked hard
It was fantastic how efficient the Bicton team were with results and prize giving – it makes such a difference when you have a long journey
The icing on the cake was the amazing generosity of the sponsors – beautiful sashes and rosettes
Susanna Morris and Breeogue Breeze were victorious in section E
Susanna commented: “It was completely unexpected – Breeze managed to pull a front shoe off in the stable on Friday night
so we were just pleased to even be trotting down the centre line
this was the only qualifier I was going to be able to get to
He has been so consistent this year (1st Kingston Maurward
2nd at Tweseldown) so I was just praying that I wouldn’t make a stupid mistake and let him down
With me being 60 next year I have only got limited time!”
Suzanne Ross and Findatie Bracken’s double clear earned them section D with a score of 29.5 She said: “After competing at our first Badminton Grassroots in May this year
I was desperate to qualify again to relive the experience
so it was fantastic to finish at the top of the leaderboard at Bicton
she absolutely loves competing and she is so consistent – she was foot perfect this weekend so I was delighted that she got the result she deserved
I am so thankful to my fabulous trainer (& sister) Colina Pickles
who goes above and beyond to ensure we are prepped for these important competitions
I think Bicton was a brilliant choice for a regional championships venue
The organisers made such an effort to make the event feel like a prestigious competition with atmospheric (super flat) dressage arenas
brilliant prizes and a podium – it really did tick all the boxes for us grassroots competitors.”
Bella Stevens and Totally Worth It landed section J with a score of 30.5
while Jenny Daniels and Firecracker Orbit scored 31 for a win in section K
Bella said of her win: “It was an amazing day
and I’m thrilled with our win in the RCNQ BE100
and to win here while qualifying for Badminton Grassroots is an achievement we will never forget
was fantastic and really performed in every phase
and that feeling of everything clicking is just incredible and so rewarding
A big thank you to Colne Saddlery for their support this season and to my wonderful coaches
I’m also incredibly grateful to my parents for their unwavering support
A special thank you to Andrew Fell and Helen West for running yet another fantastic event at Bicton
for giving his all today and making this win happen.”
Jenny commented: “This was our first British Eventing win
It was a complete shock when we finished the cross-country to find out we had won
We have been spending a lot of time training and progressing our partnership
I can’t thank all the people who have helped me get here enough
none of this would be possible without them!”
Congratulations to all our winners and riders at Bicton

A shark barrier has been installed in Perth’s Swan River after a teenager died in the river’s first fatal attack in 100 years
The barrier at Bicton Baths is about four kilometres from the Fremantle traffic bridge
where 16-year-old Stella Berry was bitten while swimming in February
The barrier will protect swimmers while not impacting other creatures
It’s part of the Western Australian government’s ongoing rollout of shark hazard mitigation measures for the Swan Canning Estuary
Premier Roger Cook said the barrier would provide swimmers with confidence they are safe when they hit the water
“The barrier is the first of its kind to be installed in the Swan River and is part of a suite of mitigation measures in place to reduce the risk of shark encounters,” he said on Monday
which is about 50 metres long and 50 metres wide
will be operating by the end of the month following safety checks
It provides swimmers with a physical barrier to reduce the risk of a shark encounter and unlike nets will not trap marine life
Other measures for the estuary include the installation of three acoustic shark monitoring receivers that provide near real-time notifications of tagged shark activity

“We just want to make sure the product’s right
because we want to be here for a long time.”
We’re chatting to Hunter Bread‘s namesake and baker
and we’re enjoying the cosy warmth of the bakery’s oven while he shapes loaves into their signature “longs”
The bakery is tucked away in Bicton Central; a strip of shops off Canning Highway that includes Fresh Provisions
The addition of Hunter Bread has made the spot a gourmet centre of sort – the ideal pre-dinner party shopping hub or a quick stop for a morning coffee and a loaf of bread
“We’re not looking to pull people out of their routine
but if the bread’s not up to scratch then no one’s going to come here anyway!” Hunter laughs
The bakery takes a minimalistic approach to their offerings
with a signature French farmhouse-style sourdough taking pride of place in a range of shapes
chewy crumb… If you were going to just make one bread
you just have less time to think about the dough
So we’ll try and just stick with the bread and not too much else
My little brain can’t handle all those products!”
it’s been influenced by Hunter’s years on the east coast
Growing up in Perth and spending almost a decade in New South Wales
he worked as a cook then started baking at cult-favourite Sydney bakery Iggy’s
“Iggy’s instilled this ethos of buying the best ingredients you can
Working for them was different to working in kitchens – it had a friendlier
As well as their classic longs, shorts and bigs, you can also pick up a daily special (on this day it was a spelt loaf), or rolls – individually or in a satisfying, concentric wheel. For sweet tooths, there are slices of two cakes on offer, which you can enjoy with a cup of Pound batch brew coffee standing at the reclaimed timber counter
Dine-in customers can also enjoy a slice of bread with a daily selection of offerings – like butter
chevrano and a slathering yuzu marmalade made with end of season fruit from Hunter’s dad’s yuzu farm
All of these are served up by front-of-house aficionado Shannon Malone, who’s also the brains behind her eponymous ethical slow fashion label
“I’m really all about creating an experience
and hospitality… Even though my background isn’t in hospitality,” she tells us
“We might not be an every week purchase for a lot of people,” Hunter agrees
“But we’re happy to be a special purchase as well.”
Hunter Bread is located at Shop 14/258 Canning Highway, Bicton, and is open Thursday and Friday 7:00AM to 3:00PM, and from 7:30AM to 3:00PM weekends (unless sold out prior).
The attack happened near the cliffs at Blackwall Reach
Link copiedShareShare articleA man has been attacked by a bull shark in Perth's Swan River
at Point Walter Reserve in the suburb of Bicton
The attack happened around 8:00am near Blackwall Reach
a limestone cliff running along the river that is popular with swimmers
The man aged in his 50s was bitten on the leg by a 2-3 metre bull shark
He was pulled from the water by witnesses including two kayakers
who tried to stem his bleeding and put him on a paddleboard to move him to shore
The man was taken by ambulance to Royal Perth Hospital with what WA Police said were serious injuries to his leg
The man was pulled from the water and taken to shore before receiving medical treatment
The full severity of the man's injuries is not yet known
but he was taken to hospital under "priority one" conditions
Bull sharks are present in the Swan River but are very rarely involved in attacks
Police are urging swimmers to stay out of the water near Point Walter
Two kayakers who helped move the man out of the water and up to the road described the scene as traumatic
Peter Towndrow and Kieron Hayter were paddling along the riverbank when they saw two swimmers in front of them
Police are advising people in the area at Point Walter Reserve to stay out of the water
"One of them yelled out that there had been a shark attack
which was pretty surprising," Mr Towndrow said
"We paddled over and sure enough one guy had been bitten quite badly on the thigh
and he was sort of wallowing around in the water
"Keiron and I both jumped off the kayaks and obviously went to his aid
and we tried to prevent further bleeding by applying pressure to the wound
Kieron took his top off and wrapped it around the wound."
The men put the victim onto a paddleboard and moved him down the river until they could carry him up to the road

"We were trying to keep him calm and we eventually got him on to the paddleboard," Mr Towndrow said.
"We had around six or seven people helping with the paddleboard and managed to get him up to the roadway… the ambulance probably turned up five or six minutes later.
"He was conscious at the time that he went into the ambulance.
"It's a pretty big bite, probably around 30 centimetres across the top of his thigh.
"It's a pretty traumatic thing … we were trying to keep him calm and we were trying not to panic ourselves, because this is not something you expect to see.
Mr Hayter said he swam or kayaked nearly every day on the river.
"I've heard there's bull sharks in the river but I've never seen any," he said.
David Davenport was standing on his deck when he heard shouting and splashing on the river.
Mr Davenport said he thought the men had jumped off the back of a boat, before he saw blood in the water.
"After a while the splashing stopped and they started swimming to shore and I could see the trail of blood coming out of the one guy," he said.
"I called my son, Andrew, and told him to come down here and I phoned the ambulance as they were swimming to shore.

Mr Davenport said the two kayakers helped save the victim's life.
"The amount of blood I saw coming out of him was quite astounding," he said.
"When I eventually came down [to the river] there was virtually no blood, so they had managed to stem the blood completely.
"You have to take your hat off to those guys, they did an incredible job."
WA Premier Mark McGowan said he understood it was "quite a serious bite".
"A man in his 50s was swimming in the river," Mr McGowan said.
"He's been bitten on the leg by a bull shark.
"Some kayakers I understand rescued the man, and I'd like to thank them for that and I wish the man all the very best in [his] recovery."

Mr McGowan said it was a "very, very surprising event".
"The last time someone was killed by a bull shark in the river was 100 years ago, so this is unexpected and surprising," he said.
The last time a fatal attack was recorded in the Swan River was in 1923 when a 13-year-old boy died from a bite to his thigh.
WA Opposition Leader Zak Kirkup said more needed to be done to keep people safe in the water.
"Obviously, (I am) very concerned about shark attack in the river," Mr Kikrup said.
"That's very tragic and very scary. We want to see more research and development, more tagging, and we want to make sure we keep West Australians safe in the water."
Shark expert Adrian Gleiss, from the Harry Butler Institute at Murdoch University, said the serious attack was "a bit of a freak accident".
"It's a tragic event but actually it's a very, very unusual event," he said.
Dr Gleiss said bull sharks tended to live in waters close to humans, so they were more likely to come into contact with people than other sharks.
"All large sharks pose a danger to humans and around the world there have been more incidents with bull sharks rather than other species, because they tend to live quite close to coasts," he said.
Shark expert Adrian Gleiss says the Swan and Canning rivers are used by bull sharks as nurseries. (Supplied: Adrian Gleiss)
But he said it was unusual for a bull shark of that size to come into the Swan River and they had proved difficult to tag.
He said the Swan and Canning rivers were nurseries for bull shark pups, although there were "relatively few" there at any one time.
These pups, usually between 80 centimetres and 1.3 metres long, live in the river and travelled regularly between West Swan and Point Walter, where the attack occurred.
"Those bigger individuals, we have no idea when they come or anything," Dr Gleiss said.
"We think it's got to do with pupping and they should pup around this time of year when the water is really starting to warm up, so from that point of view it really makes sense that that could be a pregnant female or one that has recently given birth."
Mr McGowan said he would receive a full report from the Department of Fisheries in the coming days.
"About this event and what can be done about these sorts of issues," he said.
The Premier said while WA had shark tagging programs in the ocean, the programs did not extend to the river "because it's a different species of shark and we haven't had an attack in 50 years".
"Fisheries has cleared the water and obviously they are on the lookout in that area. But sharks migrate, they move around … it's very difficult to predict or prevent," he said.

British horse riding star Georgie Campbell has died aged 37 after suffering a fall at the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon tonight
Campbell and Global Quest were competing in the CCI4*-S event when the accident took place on the cross-country course
They fell at a log into the water at fence 5b
Medical professionals had immediately attended the scene
During her career, Campbell competed in more than 200 events, winning on six occasions, including five-star events Badminton and Burghley. In 2020, she married event rider Jesse Campbell, who had previously represented New Zealand at the Tokyo Olympics.
A statement from Bicton International Horse Trials read: 'It is with deepest regret that we announce that Georgie Campbell (GBR) suffered a fatal accident whilst competing at the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon, England on Sunday 26 May 2024.
'Medical professionals attended immediately following her fall at fence 5b however, unfortunately, she could not be saved.
'The horse, Global Quest, was assessed by the on-site vets and walked back to the stable and is uninjured.
'To respect the family's privacy at this extremely difficult and sad time, no further details will be shared.'
The Bicton Horse Trials took place at the Bicton Arena in Devon between Thursday, May 23 and Sunday, May 26.
A statement was released earlier today announcing that Campbell and Global Quest had fallen on the course and that there would be a delay of approximately one hour.
The CCI4*-S event was subsequently abandoned following the news that Campbell had suffered a fatal fall.
Campbell, who originally hails from Kent, was shortlisted for the British Junior Team before going on to make her five-star debut in 2009. She had also made several Nations Cup appearances with Team GB.
She was only two-years-old when she was taught to ride by her mother Debbie, a former GB endurance rider, in Kent.
Earlier in May, Campbell and Global Quest had finished third in the CCI3*-S at Osberton International Horse Trials.
Global Quest is an 11-year-old horse who has competed with Campbell for several years. The horse had moved to four-star level in 2022, with the pair winning the CCI4*-L at Lignieres in France the same year.
Georgie had competed at five-star on other horses, completing both Badminton Horse Trials and Burghley Horse Trials.
Tributes to the rider poured in on social media, reading 'Rest easy Georgie, you'll be greatly missed'.
Another read: 'Rest in peace one of the best riders.'
One touching tribute read: 'RIP Georgie, a remarkable rider with so much passion for the sport. She will be missed.'
'Rest in peace, thinking of and sending love to all involved,' said another.
