City of Moreton Bay Council is opening up one of Bribie Island’s oldest buildings
the former Bribie Island Masonic Lodge at Bongaree
Peter Flannery said Council’s purchase of the site ensured it will be preserved for future generations to enjoy
“City of Moreton Bay purchased this building in 2022
recognising its rich history in the community,” said Mayor Flannery
“We’re excited to reopen soon after some temporary improvement works
delivering a community meeting room where people can come together and continue creating memories.
“The building has and will continue to be a place for people to gather and connect so its new name ‘Bongaree Meeting Place’ is the perfect fit.
“The next chapter for this building’s history may see it used for small meetings
or community events while other restoration continues,” he said
Brooke Savige said the new name reflected the building’s role in the community
so it is only fitting that we embrace its next chapter as ‘Bongaree Meeting Place’,” she said
“Opening the building for community use will help meet the demand for smaller meeting spaces on Bribie Island.
“I look forward to welcoming the entire community to the space when it opens in May
“Thanks to Council’s investment in preserving the past
we can celebrate our community’s story.”
the building was constructed in the 1880s and has been used as a school
a Methodist church and more recently a Masonic Lodge.
The Bongaree Meeting Place can accommodate 20-30 people for activities such as meetings
Fees for use have been reduced pending future upgrades at which time they will be reviewed

Is heading to Bribie Island to see if you can devour a one-kilogram doughnut on your to-do list
Does a coffee- or hot chocolate-filled doughnut sound like your perfect treat
Are you just a fan of giant baked goods and sweet treats-turned-beverage containers all year round
Then make plans to visit Kenilworth Island Bakery
The Kenilworth Bakery chain has launched its third outpost — and the Sunshine Coast favourite's closest to Brisbane. This one sees brother-and-sister pair Nathan and Jenna Sanders set up shop at a beachfront store near the Bribie Island jetty, adding to the brand's OG spot in its namesake hinterland town and its coastal store at The Wharf in Mooloolaba
Everyone should love country bakeries for a pie
but Kenilworth Bakery isn't any old spot for a bite
it's particularly famous for its special menu item
which does indeed involve pouring coffee or hot chocolate into a doughnut
Ordering a cuppa and a round orb of dough separately is a thing of the past here
the doughnuts are hollowed out so they can be filled with your choice of beverage (an espresso shot and milk if you go for the caffeinated option)
Also a highlight: one-kilogram bites both savoury and sweet
Gaytime-flavoured versions and sausage rolls all on offer at that weight
which spans ordering one online in advance
and then getting your money back and a plate on the bakery's wall of fame if you finish it all
The Bribie Island menu features dogaccinnos

A fully-leased retail centre on Bribie Island, north of Brisbane
The Bribie Retail Centre located at 5-7 Fortune Avenue, Bongaree boasts a high-profile location in the heart of Bribie Island’s main retail precinct
The property was sold by Glenn Conridge of Burgess Rawson and Jon Tyson of Savills following an expressions of interest campaign that attracted multiple offers
The property was purchased by Brisbane-based syndicator Arcana Capital, chaired by former Queensland Premier Campbell Newman
The property is set on a site area of 5,916 square metres and features a total floor area of 1,567 square metres
Jon Tyson said the Bribie Retail Centre benefits from its prominent location in the dominant retail precinct on Bribie Island as well as its dynamic mix of well-known retailers and strong lease expiry profile of circa 4.6 years
He said the centre is adjacent to the Woolworths-anchored Bribie Island Shopping Centre
and a future proposed Coles Shopping Centre
"The modern architect-designed building is divided into four tenancies occupied by Domino’s, Tattsbet, Supercheap Auto and Bargain City with three-street frontage to Fortune Avenue, Bongaree Avenue and Goodwin Drive plus ample grade level parking at the shopfronts."
It also neighbours a freestanding Mitre 10 property that was recently sold by Burgess Rawson and Savills in a separate sale to a private buyer for $2.6 million

Former premier Campbell Newman in Canberra
FORGET everything he said about selling off assets
former premier Campbell Newman seems to have had a change of heart
Since he’s popped his head back up with the announcement of the state election for November 25 – propelling assets sales briefly back into the spotlight – we decided to see if Mr Newman has been on a selling bender or the accumulation track
It turns out he’s become a big believer in building wealth through property accumulation and has spent recent years taking on massive multimillion-dollar properties
The property Newman co-owns in Mackay is leased back to UGL
Among his biggest registered deals was last year’s July purchase of a $9.7m 3.09ha property in Mackay that he went 50-50 on with business partner Dominic Condon
Mr Condon is a former director of state-owned Stanwell Corp and co-founder of commercial real estate firm Chase Commercial
The massive Paget property also came with a solid tenant in place – the Australian Stock Exchange-listed UGL – on a ten year lease worth a whopping $868,599 a year in rent by which time the pair would have made just about all their money back
Mr Condon was also one third partner in investment vehicle Arcana Capital with Mr Newman and his wife Lisa – who make up 16.5 per cent each
and businessmen Peter Eccleston made up the remaining third

WHAT A MILLION-DOLLAR MAKEOVER GETS YOU
Dominic Condon who is a one third partner with the Newmans and Peter Eccleston in Arcana Capital
He has interests in three other multimillion-dollar commercial properties including a $15.6m Redland Bay complex that was bought in August this year where the estimated net income was $1.248m a year
The others he has interests in were a $6.2m light industrial facility in South Gladstone purchased in January; and a group of shops in Bongaree that changed hands in October last year for $7.3m
The Bongaree site was marketed with an estimated annual net income of $550,532 off the retail centre and $191,239 off a Mitre 10 in the complex
The holiday home registered to Mr Newman and his sister in New South Wales
He and wife Lisa still own a $417,000 two bedroom unit in the heritage Rothbury Hotel complex in the Brisbane CBD
and Mr Newman also had a half share in a three-bedroom holiday property New South Wales with his sister Kate
His wife Lisa has holdings in her own right
with two Brisbane titles listed in her name with siblings
