A major road in Bundoora is in a state of disrepair less than two weeks after road surfacing works were completed
Sections of Greenwood Drive were repaired several weeks ago
but the road now requires more resurfacing works
“It is incredible,” Ross said on 3AW Breakfast when shown the photos
“Some government body has paid for that resurfacing.”
If you are walking near the Bundoora Clinical Teaching Building construction site (formerly Car Park 11)
Detours will be put in place to allow the construction team to install scaffolding
Sections of the pedestrian path will be closed and pedestrians will be redirected to the other side of Science Drive to allow for safe passage
The detour will be in place on Saturday 22 February (7 am-1 pm) and Tuesday 25 to Friday 28 February (daily)
There will be traffic controllers on site to assist pedestrians with the changed access
The Science Drive (west) footpath will be clear and reopened at the end of each day for pedestrians to use
Plenty Road in Bundoora has the dishonourable title of being named Australia’s top crash hotspot over the past decade
Insurer AAMI is released its Decade of Driving Report
looking back at the driving trends of the past 10 years
Analysing more than 4.3 million motor claims across the country from 2014 – 2023
AAMI aimed to shine a light on the country’s most dangerous crash hotspots through its report
It was also the only local road to feature in Victoria’s top 10 crash hotspots
Plenty Road has been Victoria’s crash hotspot for eight of the past 10 years
It was knocked off top spot in 2014 and 2015
AAMI motor claims manager Leah Jones said that in 2022
thei surer’s annual Crash Index data played a key role in reducing the rate of collisions on Plenty Road
“Our data helped inform a speed reduction trial which then went on to become a permanent change in 2022,” she said
“Following the adoption of the reduced speed limit
our data showed a 26 per cent reduction in the number of accidents.”
Ms Jones said nose-to-tail crashes and failing to give-way were consistently the top types of accidents nationally over the decade
our data has shown that afternoons are prime time for collisions across the country,” she said
“This coincides with school pick up – and is generally a time when the roads are busy
drivers are tired from the day and racing to either get home or to their next destination
This is when drivers need to have their wits about them
to avoid those bumper-to-bumper collisions or an accident involving a child.”
will be closed for maintenance from Tuesday 11 March until late April
the car park will be sealed and asphalted and line marking will be carried out
alternative parking can be found nearby in Car Park 2 and Car Park 2A

Home / The Hon Ged Kearney MP visits Bundoora Centre
The Hon Ged Kearney MP Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care and Assistant Minister for Indigenous Health
recently visited Bundoora Centre to attend an event hosted by Wounds Australia as part of Wound Awareness Week
Ms Kearney had the privilege of meeting 91-year-old patient Shirley McKenzie
who lives with hard-to-heal wounds and receives treatment by the Chronic Wound Service at Bundoora Centre
Also in attendance was Wound Awareness Week Ambassador Professor Fiona Wood AO
who is a highly skilled and experienced plastic surgeon
and is known for her work pioneering the innovative ‘spray-on-skin’ which reduces scarring in burn victims
Wounds Australia CEO Jeff Antcliff also attended
various chronic wound service clinicians including Dr Katy Melrose
Sally Graham and members from the leadership team including Hospital Without Walls Director Johanna Hayes and CTS manager Sue Hull
“The recently announced Chronic Wound Consumables Scheme will hopefully assist some patients with the cost of these dressings, and Wounds Australia’s five point plan to solve Australia’s chronic wound epidemic will address challenges affecting patients and clinicians.”
The Chronic Wound Service at Northern Health commenced more than two decades ago, with Dr Katy Melrose, Chronic Wound Geriatrician and Sue Hull, Community Therapy Services Director joining the service shortly after its inception.
Northern Health has three chronic wound sites at Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre and Broadmeadows Hospital. Each site is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team including a geriatrician, wound CNC, registered nurse, podiatrist and dietician.
“Our service offers face-to-face centred based and home based reviews including Residential Aged Care Facilities. This service provides assessment, diagnosis, treatment, advice and education,” Clara said.
“Clients undergo a comprehensive medical and wound assessment including diagnosis, and will be provided treatment, advice and education. A wound management plan will be prescribed and we work closely with community nursing providers and GP’s who will provide regular wound care.”
“Anyone with a hard-to-heel wound – defined as a wound that has failed to heal within four weeks – is eligible for the service.”
“We are very blessed to work with other Specialities at Northern Hospital Epping including Vascular, Residential In Reach, Dermatology, Plastics, HITH and PAC.”
Earlier this year, Cassie Bramston and the Virtual Victorian Specialist Consults (VVSC) setup a telehealth state wide Chronic Wound Service to benefit bush nursing centres and regional nursing homes.
We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which our health service is built, those of the Taungurung and Wurundjeri people, and we acknowledge their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to the people, the cultures and the Elders past and present.
Northern Health celebrates, values, and includes people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, bodies and abilities.

Be prepared for changes to Car Park 1 at our Melbourne (Bundoora) campus as official construction works begin to construct Victoria’s largest urban solar farm
a significant portion of Car Park 1 along the Kingsbury Drive boundary will be affected
Approximately 50 car parking spaces will be closed during this initial phase
the number of closed spaces will reduce to 15
additional construction activities will result in reduced speed limits and traffic management along Kingsbury Drive
Boring works under the road will require precautions to ensure the safety of both workers and commuters
we will endeavor to keep disruptions to a minimum and provide updates on any further developments
This project represents a significant step towards reducing our carbon footprint
We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this period of transformation

the new Trades Innovation Centre will be a technology-backed facility that supports a training pipeline for northern corridor population growth and infrastructure investment
sector-leading equipment and teaching practices
and programs that integrate job-ready and future-ready industry skills
It will also provide an opportunity for industry to use the facility to test
and access RMIT’s expertise to solve real-world problems
By 2025 it is projected that our state will need more than another 4,000 electricians
2,400 plumbers and 500 refrigeration mechanics
The Trades Innovation Centre will enable RMIT to contribute to meeting forecasted demand over the next 3–5 years
in line with the Victorian Government Skills Plan and Clean Economy Workforce Skills requirements
RMIT Deputy Vice-Chancellor Vocational Education and Vice-President
explained the importance of investment in trades education
“Victoria is undergoing a significant transformation
and evolving occupational requirements,” Eastman said
“There is a need for hundreds of thousands of additional construction workers in the next five years to meet evolving industry workforce requirements and government initiatives such as the Victorian Big Build
“In addition to meeting shortages in the workforce
the sector also needs to adopt technology innovation to improve productivity.”
After engaging with representatives of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation
the new centre has been given an Indigenous name: Murmuk-nganjin marnang [Prounounced: 'Murr (as in purr)-muck - nan - ginn (as in bin) marr nang]
The centre will have a 1,700 square metre footprint that includes a 2.5-metre-deep sand pit
double height ceilings throughout the workshop and a three-storey training rig that simulates a building during construction
A modular design will allow for multi-use spaces and zones that can expand and contract as needed
By splitting the centre into ‘trade zones’
students will learn hands-on skills within view of other trades – leading to a deeper understanding of different trades and how they intersect and complement
Students will learn on simulated work sites (frames
The building itself will be a learning experience
with its inner workings on display (such as exposed sanitary and water tanks) and access to live technology (such as solar panels)
Roof access and other outdoor zones will also be available for students
All this will give students a sense of what it’s like to work on a real construction site
Roll-in mobile benches with connection to virtual
augmented and mixed reality programs will allow RMIT students to safely develop skills before engaging in ‘live’ situations
Technology will be integrated not just into what trades students learn
Hybrid and online teaching will be available where learning does not have to be delivered face-to-face
This will improve the flexibility of trades courses
promoting a blended learning experience that maximises the on-campus practical skills building
RMIT have an already successful pipeline for skilled workers and upskilling of existing trades workers
The new Trades Innovation Centre will be built in one of the fastest growing regions of Melbourne
With its position at RMIT’s Bundoora East campus
the new facility will also provide a link between students and the opportunities presented by major infrastructure and construction projects in the northern corridor
The location will also bring together trades education and the existing pre-apprenticeship training at Bundoora East and the Skills and Jobs Centre at Bundoora West

A woman murdered near a Bundoora shopping centre car park was believed to still be breathing when she was discovered by three tradesmen and a woman early on Wednesday
Homicide squad detectives believe the woman caught the Route 86 tram
about 11pm on Tuesday and may have been stalked off the tram before she was attacked
The woman and three tradesmen found the woman's body lying behind bushes about 7am near the entrance to the Polaris shopping centre car park and metres from the Bundoora Park/Plenty Road tram stop

Detective Inspector Andrew Stamper said at the scene that investigators had not ruled out the possibility the woman was sexually assaulted
but would not comment on the specifics as it was too early in the investigation
or it seems that the woman has been assaulted," he said
She was wearing sandals and her clothing appeared to be in disarray
She was yet to be formally identified on Wednesday night
A Bundoora resident walking to the tram at 6.50am said he came across the scene shortly after the woman was found
screaming hysterically as she was comforted by a tradesman who had discovered the victim
“I walked past the scene and one of the tradies was comforting the girl
and another one on the phone to the coppers," he said
They didn’t want me to stick around and I didn’t see much
There were people on the side of the road they were directing away from the scene
They did a really good job of not letting other people see
I assume she walked past and probably saw it.”
The victim was found directly outside the entrance to the shopping centre car park
opposite a row of about five brick townhouses
